Absorptive and transformative capacities in nanotechnology innovation systems
Krsto Pandža, Robin Holt, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: We identify managerial challenges offered by an emergent nanotechnology innovation system in which knowledge is dispersed, asymmetric and contested. We argue the proposed models of knowledge absorption and transformation enhance existing theories of knowledge and emergent technology by recognizing how and why knowledge flows among the actors in emergent technology innovationsystem. We base our argument on combined research evidence from a Delphi study concerning the future of European manufacturing, from which a selected statement has been analyzed, and from analysis of the NanoManufacturing Institute at Leeds University, UK; specifically its work in building ties between different actors associated with nanotechnology. We conclude our paper with suggestions for future research.

Intelligent support to specific design aspects
Urška Sancin, Jasmin Kaljun, Bojan Dolšak, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Due to increased rivalry on the market, some specific design aspects like the use of modern plastics materials, ergonomics and aesthetics are becoming more important and are not kept in the background any more in correlation with functionality and economic aspect of the product. Design engineer faces many dilemmas while designing new products as a single person is not able to possess a wide spectrum of knowledge needed for optimal design solutions. At this point designer have to rely on his or her experience and on the knowledge of the expert team involved in the project. The fundamental purpose of the research presented in this paper is to make the product development process less experience dependent. The main goal of thematically oriented research is to develop intelligent advisory system with integrated modules forsome specific design aspects.

Intelligent FEA-based design improvement
Marina Novak, Bojan Dolšak, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Structural analysis using the finite element method is an integrate part of the design process for many components. Finite element analysis is the most extensively used numerical analysis in mechanical engineering practice and is incorporated into many computer-aided design systems. The existing commercial software is very helpful when supporting realisation of the analysis process but still fails to provide adequate support during the post-processing phase. The results of analysis should be studied and decisions made regarding the designćs suitability with respect to its engineering specifications. In general, design changes are indispensable and designers need help to design them properly. The prototype of an intelligent rule-based consultative system is being developed by the authors to provide such advice when considering a description of the design structurećs critical area. This system is encoded in Prolog. It can deal with the results of prior strain-stress or thermal analysis. It presents a short list of proposed design changes that should be taken into account when improving the design.

An intelligent system for structural analysis-based design improvements
Marina Novak, Bojan Dolšak, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The goal of the research work presented in this paper was to collect, organize, and write the knowledge and experience about structural analysis-based design improvements into a knowledge base for a consultative advisory intelligent decision support system. The prototype of the system presented proposes possible design changes that should be taken into consideration to improve the design candidate according to the results of a prior stress-strain or thermal analysis. The system can be applied either in the design of new products or as an educational tool.

Product lifecycle management with knowledge management as a strategic approach for innovative enterprise environment
Valentina Gečevska, Borut Buchmeister, Zoran Anišić, Bojan Lalić, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Process planning knowledge (PPK) is one of the most important knowledge in production manufacturing enterprise. This paper analyzes the PPK and the concept of process planning information model (PPIM) implemented in production enterprise. In second part of the paper, there is done the basic information about PLM concept as a business strategy for product development where are included PPK and PPIM approaches, strategy which offer possibilities for innovation. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the process of managing the whole life cycle of a product starting from generating an idea, concept description, business analyzes, product design, solution architecture and technical implementation, to the successful entrance to the market, service, maintenance and innovative product improvement.

Intelligent decision support system for ergonomic product design
Jasmin Kaljun, Milenko Obad, Bojan Dolšak, 2011, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: In general, computer tools for ergonomic CAD do not assist designer with higher level advice when performing ergonomic design. Designer has to possess expert knowledge and experience in many fields of engineering design including ergonomics in order to deliver successful designs. Such multi-levelexperts are rare and usually occupied. Two alternative ways are used to substitute these experts: teams of experts covering different areas of knowledge are established or some intelligent computer programs with expert knowledge are applied. In the second case, expert knowledge has to be collected, organized and encoded into the knowledge base of the system. An intelligent decision support system has been developed in order to overcome this bottleneck. This paper presents a knowledge base, containing ergonomic design knowledge specific for hand tools design. A pneumatic hammer handle design is used as a case study to show how ergonomic design knowledge built in the system is used to improve the ergonomic value of the product.

The advance engineering methods to plan the behaviour of fused panel
Simona Jevšnik, Jelka Geršak, Ivan Gubenšek, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The purpose of this paper is to analyse some mechanical properties and parameters of drapability using different methods from two different points of research area: knowledge bases and numerical modelling using the finite element method. The approach consists of analysing some mechanical properties and parameters of drapability using different methods from two different points of research areaČ knowledge bases and numerical modelling using the finite element method. The knowledge bases, named FP_B-1 and FPO_B-2, were used to analyse the bending rigidity of fused panels. The numerical model of fused panel NMFP is used to analyse parameters of drapability. Findings - Based on the analyses of bending rigidity and draping of fused panels the conclusions indicate the significance of interaction between mechanical properties and parameters of drapability of thefused panel to garment appearance. Furthermore, the methods used present a computer approach to the study of the fused panel properties important for thecomputer-based engineering and the presentation of real behaviour of all aspects of clothes. This numerical model of a fused panel enables a 3D observation of this aspect of clothes which is a behaviour, very important contribution to the computer planning of the behaviour of produced clothes. Originality is in a better understanding of how to construct fused panels in clothing.
