Strength of culture and transfer of knowledge in organizations
Nataša Pivec, Vojko Potočan, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper analyses the effects of organizational culture on the transfer of knowledge in organizations. While prior literature has considered relations between individual classifications of organizational culture and the whole process of knowledge development, we focused our analysis on the dimension of cultural strength and its effects on the selected phase of knowledge transfer in organizations. Our study suggested that organizations need to analyse how weak and strong organizational culture affects knowledge in organizations. The study drew upon the behavioural, organizational, and knowledge management theories and analysed answers from 138 respondents in Slovenian organizations. Analysing knowledge data demonstrates that older respondents and employees in managerial positions are more prone to knowledge transfer. The analysis shows that the strength of organizational culture is positively and statistically significantly associated with knowledge transfer in organizations. The main practical implication of this study is our finding, which suggests that organizations need to further improve the transfer of knowledge through increasing the strength of organizational culture.

Metallurgical and geometric properties controlling of additively manufactured products using artificial intelligence
Snehashis Pal, Igor Drstvenšek, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article has presented a technical concept for producing precisely desired Additive Manufactured (AM) metallic products using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Due to the stochastic nature of the metallic AM process, which causes a greater variance in product properties compared to traditional manufacturing processes, significant inaccuracies in metallurgical properties, as well as geometry, occur. The physics behind these phenomena are related to the melting process, bonding, cooling rate, shrinkage, support condition, part orientation. However, by controlling these phenomena, a wide range of product features can be achieved using the fabricating parameters. A variety of fabricating parameters are involved in the metal AM process, but an appropriate combination of these parameters for a given material is required to obtain an accurate and desired product. Zero defect product can be achieved by controlling these parameters by implementing Knowledge-Based System (KBS). A suitable combination of manufacturing parameters can be determined using mathematical tools with AI, considering the manufacturing time and cost. The knowledge required to integrate AM manufacturing characteristics and constraints into the design and fabricating process is beyond the capabilities of any single engineer. Concurrent Engineering enables the integration of design and manufacturing to enable trades based not only on product performance, but also on other criteria that are not easily evaluated, such as production capability and support. A decision support system or KBS that can guide manufacturing issues during the preliminary design process would be an invaluable tool for system designers. The main objective of this paper is to clearly describe the metal AM manufacturing process problem and show how to develop a KBS for manufacturing process determination.

Knowledge transfer for innovativeness in family businesses
Marina Letonja, Mojca Duh, Zdenka Ženko, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Family businesses (FB) are important in the most of national economies. We explored whether successors innovativeness is positively associated with the transfer of the founder innovativenes sthrough knowledge transfer and creation processes in a form of the internal transfer of founders tacitand experiential knowledge and skills and with the external transfer of knowledge, when potential successors attend educational programs, external training, or gain working experience in other companies. Our research reveals that when the actual forms of internal knowledge transfer a rediscussed, the positive correlations exist between innovativeness of successors and their early inclusion into FB, apprenticeship, inclusion of successors into meetings with business partners and strategic planning before they get involved in FB. Our survey partially confirmed that regarding external transfer of knowledge, working experiences of successors in other companies and participation in academic courses are positively associated with their innovativeness.

Factors affecting Zoo visitors’ conservation beliefs and knowledge of large carnivores in 2009 and a dozen years later
Vesna Mihelič Oražem, Aleksandra Majić Skrbinšek, Andrej Šorgo, Iztok Tomažič, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Teaching in a formal learning environment mainly focuses on gaining knowledge, and scarcely on the development of pro-environmental attitudes. Knowledge can also be gained in informal learning institutions, such as zoos, and their potential use in general public education should not be neglected. This paper explores factors influencing the conservation beliefs of zoo visitors about brown bears, grey wolves, and Eurasian lynx. The study undertaken in Zoo Ljubljana (Slovenia) consisted of surveys performed in 2009 (n = 613) and in 2021 (n = 257). The levels of knowledge and education influenced both supporting and opposing beliefs about the three large carnivore species. The gender factor was less uniform: both supporting and opposing beliefs about lynx were demonstrated, but only opposing beliefs about brown bear and wolf. The study indicates that knowledge has the most significant influence on conservation beliefs, thus highlighting the importance of educational and communication activities in management and conservation actions regarding large carnivore species. The varied gender influence suggests that species-specific educational activities should be encouraged.

Knowledge of fermentation and health benefits among general population in North-eastern Slovenia
Maja Šikić Pogačar, Dušanka Mičetić-Turk, Sabina Fijan, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Fermented foods are staples of the human diet and fermentation process has been used by humans for thousands of years. The preparation of fermented foods was performed in the past without knowledge of the role of microorganisms involved. Nowadays, fermented foods, due to their proclaimed health benefits for consumers, are becoming increasingly popular. Our study was constructed to provide data on awareness and use of fermented foods among people in North-eastern Slovenia. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 349 individuals (16–89 years of age). An online survey was designed to assess the participants' knowledge of fermentation, fermented foods, the consumption of fermented foods and awareness of the health benefits. Data were collected from March to June 2021 and analyzed using IBM SPSS 27.0. Results: Compared with the youngest participants (< 21 years) knowledge of fermentation was higher in older individuals (p < 0.001). More than a half of the participants recognized the role of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts in fermentation process, however, only 18.3% of participants were aware of the role of the molds. Only 25.9% of the participants have become acquainted with fermented foods at home and 62.2% of them were aware of health benefits of fermented foods, but mostly on gastrointestinal health and the immune system. Conclusions: As people today live predominantly in urban areas and incline towards westernized foods, they often lack the knowledge of fermentation and awareness regarding the nutritional value of fermented foods and their preparation. Steps should be taken to educate younger generations regarding the health benefits of fermented foods especially considering that most of them expressed their interest in learning more about the process.

Research trends in motivation and weight loss : a bibliometric-based review
Uroš Železnik, Peter Kokol, Jasmina Starc, Danica Železnik, Jernej Završnik, Helena Blažun Vošner, 2023, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Obesity is a complex disease that, like COVID-19, has reached pandemic proportions. Consequently, it has become a rapidly growing scientific field, represented by an extensive body of research publications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to present the research trends in the scientific literature on motivation and weight loss. Because traditional knowledge synthesis approaches are not appropriate for analyzing large corpora of research evidence, we utilized a novel knowledge synthesis approach called synthetic knowledge synthesis (SKS) to generate new holistic insights into obesity research focusing on motivation. SKS is a triangulation of bibliometric analysis, bibliometric mapping, and content analysis. Using it, we analyzed the corpus of publications retrieved from the Scopus database, using the search string TITLE-ABS-KEY((obesity or overweight) and “weight loss” and motiv*) in titles, keywords, and abstracts, without any additional inclusion or exclusion criteria. The search resulted in a corpus of 2301 publications. The United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Australia were the most productive countries. Four themes emerged, namely, weight loss and weight-loss maintenance through motivational interventions, lifestyle changes supported by smart ICT, maintaining sustainable weight with a healthier lifestyle, and weight management on the level of primary healthcare and bariatric surgery. Further, we established that the volume of research literature is growing, as is the scope of the research. However, we observed a regional concentration of research and its funding in developed countries and almost nonexistent research cooperation between developed and less-developed countries.

In the search for the ideal mentor by applying the "Mentoring for effective teaching practice instrument"
Mateja Ploj Virtič, Andre Du Plessis, Andrej Šorgo, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The study aims to explore and analyse the perceived experiences of Slovenian pre-service teachers with their mentors during their teaching practicum, by using the "Mentoring for effective teaching practice instrument (METPI)". Conclusions were based on 105 responses using paper and pencil, collected from Slovenian preservice teachers in their 4th year of study. The initial set of 62 items was shortened to 36 items for inclusion in the models. From two concurrent SEM models, it was concluded that students found their experiences related to Hudson's five-factor model, consisting of personal attributes of their mentor, modelling, pedagogical knowledge, system requirements and feedback, to be satisfactory, while their experience pertaining to Information and Communication Technology as a new, additional factor with reference to their mentor, was unsatisfactory. Several recommendations are made related to the dimensions, especially pertaining to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools.
