1. Foresight for Danube Region’s Future-Oriented Competitive Planning : Book of Abstracts2025, other monographs and other completed works Abstract: The ForeDanube initiative and its related activities collectively advance the role of foresight as a strategic instrument for competitiveness, innovation, and resilient policymaking in the Danube Region. Across nine contributions, the presentations address both theoretical and applied dimensions of foresight: from integrating artificial intelligence and managing uncertainty, to strengthening education through a dedicated Master’s program, embedding foresight into the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, and supporting crisis preparedness. Empirical insights from regional surveys highlight the gap between awareness and practice, while practical frameworks, such as the Danube Transfer Centre network and structured work plans, demonstrate how foresight can be institutionalized across multi-level governance. EU co-financing opportunities through Horizon Europe are identified as crucial enablers for capacity building. The overarching vision culminates in the ForeDanube project’s proposal for a permanent Foresight Competence Centre, serving as a hub for anticipatory governance and as a scalable model for Europe and beyond. 2. Key factors for development of export in Polish food sectorIrena Łącka, Olga Stefko, 2014, original scientific article Abstract: Background: The accession of Poland to the European Union in 2004 facilitated increased exports of food products. It revealed a significant competitive advantage of Polish foreign trade in agri-food products compared to the countries of the ≫old EU≪. After nearly 10 years of Polish membership in the EU, the food sector has still a considerable potential, fostering a further increase in exports.
Objectives: The purpose of the paper was an attempt to establish the current determinants for the possibility to increase the exports of the Polish food sector and to identify potential opportunities and potential threats in the future. It was also decided to give an answer to the question whether any of the group factors has a greater impact on the development of exports than the other, and which issues play only a minor role in the development of international exchange.
Method: The analysis used involved the review of the relevant literature and forming a group of experts to specify the key factors of success in the food sector export. Basing on the experts research the STEEPVL analysis was carried out.
Results: It turned out that apart from a number of organizational, financial and marketing factors the most important are: the level of the IT infrastructure and the fluctuation of the demand on the international markets for the goods offered by the sector.
Conclusion: Therefore, the focus on the new distribution channels, integrated company management IT systems and changes in the demand on the market is the key challenge for securing the current potential and for the further development of the sector. 3. The impact of demographic changes on the organization of emergency medical services : the case of SloveniaTatjana Kitić Jaklič, Jure Kovač, 2015, original scientific article Abstract: Background and Purpose: The modern environment requires that organizations (profit and non-profit) continually harmonize their organizational models with changes in their respective environments and with their own visions and strategies for further development. The organizational structure of Emergency Medical Services (hereinafter EMS) is currently a very topical issue in Slovenia, given that a project to establish a new organization of EMS is currently underway at the national level. By examining the case of one region in Slovenia, this article presents an analysis of factors that impact on the number and types of EMS activities and depicts a forecast of future trends for the requirement of EMS. The analysis presents the initial phase of a strategic planning process for the mentioned activity and consequently, a starting point for the formation of an organizational EMS model.
Methodology: This article presents an analysis of factors that impact on the formulation of an EMS model on the basis of research carried out for one geographical region of Slovenia. For the previous period, data was collected from 2002 to 2014. The software tool used for the analysis was STATA 13.0. For the purpose of forecasting a five-year period trend we used statistical package RStudio and Hyndman’s Forecast package given that this package contains algorithms for forecasting univariate time series including exponential smoothing using automated spatial models and ARIMA modelling.
Results: The research has confirmed a correlation between social/environmental factors and the rate of increase in the demand for EMS. A population’s age structure has been identified as the key social factor that increases the need for EMS. On the basis of this finding, this article presents a model for forecasting growth trends in the scope of EMS activities.
Conclusion: The research study has identified some important elements that are imperative to take into consideration when formulating an EMS network at the prehospital level. Population ageing has emerged as a key social factor. In the accordance with forecasted trends, an increase in the burden placed on EMS activities may also be anticipated in the future.
