Factors of hospital mortality in men and women with ST-elevation myocardial infarction - an observational, retrospective, single centre study
Martin Marinšek, David Šuran, Andreja Sinkovič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: There are well-known gender differences in mortality of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Our purpose was to assess factors of hospital mortality separately for men and women with STEMI, which are less well known. Patients and Methods: In 2018– 2019, 485 men and 214 women with STEMI underwent treatment with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We retrospectively compared baseline characteristics, treatments and hospital complications between men and women, as well as between nonsurviving and surviving men and women with STEMI. Results: Primary PCI was performed in 94% of men and 91.1% of women with STEMI, respectively. The in-hospital mortality was significantly higher in women than in men (14% vs 8%, p=0.019). Hospital mortality in both genders was associated significantly to older age, heart failure, prior resuscitation, acute kidney injury, to less likely performed and less successful primary PCI and additionally in men to hospital infection and in women to bleeding. In men and women ≥ 65 years, mortality was similar (13.3% vs 17.8%, p = 0.293). Conclusion: Factors of hospital mortality were similar in men and women with STEMI, except bleeding was more likely observed in nonsurviving women and infection in nonsurviving men.

Fantasy and Madness in Two Female Protagonists in Gothic Fiction : m. a. thesis
Lara Zorec, 2023, magistrsko delo

Opis: The thesis analyses the influence of fantasy and madness on two female protagonists in The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It aims to explain in what ways the fantasizing of two female protagonists suggests the potential madness or mental health issues in the protagonists. The protagonists, Eleanor Vance, and the governess, experience seemingly inexplicable supernatural occurrences while trying to restart their lives in new surroundings. Both literary works of Gothic fiction focus on their narration and explanation of the events and their fantasizing about what could have been. To correctly interpret the results of the analysis and scientific terms, the first part of the thesis deals with the explanation of specific terminology related to the Gothic genre, madness in medical and literary terms in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and psychoanalytic criticism. The theoretical background is significant for the definition of the specific passages that help us understand the ambiguous literary works by Jackson and James. The thesis attempts to discover what mental illnesses could be tormenting the female protagonists and how defining their symptoms could help explain their behaviour and inexplicable occurrences.

Cultural foundations of female entrepreneurship in Mexico : challenges and opportunities
Martha Cantú Cavada, Vito Bobek, Hazbo Skoko, Anita Maček, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper analyses possible challenges and opportunities that Mexican female entrepreneurs face during the establishment of new enterprises. Based on in-depth interviews with female entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship experts, authors researched opportunities in the form of governmental and non-governmental institutional support, growing entrepreneurship, social awareness and women empowerment. However, lack of credibility, fear of vulnerability to criticism and social pressure are some challenges associated with gender egalitarianism. In such, the authors proved that Mexican culture impacts women in some ways more than the others. Institutional collectivism was the cultural dimension with higher positive impact on women, followed by gender egalitarianism with a neutral to positive impact and the power distance with a neutral influence on women.

Social isolation during puberty affects female sexual behavior in mice
Jasmina Kerčmar, Stuart Tobet, Gregor Majdič, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Exposure to stress during puberty can lead to long-term behavioral alterations in adult rodents coincident with sex steroid hormone-dependent brain remodeling and reorganization. Social isolation is a stress for social animals like mice, but little is known about the effects of such stress during adolescence on later reproductive behaviors. The present study examined sexual behavior of ovariectomized, estradiol and progesterone primed female mice that were individually housed from 25 days of age until testing at approximately 95 days, or individually housed from day 25 until day 60 (during puberty), followed by housing in social groups. Mice in these isolated groups were compared to females that were group housed throughout the experiment. Receptive sexual behaviors of females and behaviors of stimulus males were recorded. Females housed in social groups displayed greater levels of receptive behaviors in comparison to both socially isolated groups. Namely, social females had higher lordosis quotients (LQs) and more often displayed stronger lordosis postures in comparison to isolated females. No differences between female groups were observed in stimulus male sexual behavior suggesting that female “attractiveness” was not affected by their social isolation. Females housed in social groups had fewer cells containing immunoreactive estrogen receptor (ER) α in the anteroventral periventricular nucleus (AVPV) and in the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus (VMH) than both isolated groups. These results suggest that isolation during adolescence affects female sexual behavior and re-socialization for 1 month in adulthood is insufficient to rescue lordosis behavior from the effects of social isolation during the pubertal period.

Slovenian Entrepreneurship Observatory 2003
Miroslav Rebernik, Dijana Močnik, Jožica Knez-Riedl, Polona Tominc, Karin Širec, Matej Rus, Tadej Krošlin, Silvo Dajčman, končno poročilo o rezultatih raziskav

Opis: The monograph Slovenian Entrepreneurship Observatory 2003 consists of several research issues. In the first part, a short review of the current level of entrepreneurship is given, outlined on the basis of economic and statistical data. Understanding what is happening in Slovenian enterprises is important not only in order to pursue an appropriate economic policy but also in order to find the advantages and disadvantages of Slovenian companies in comparison with enterprises in other European countries. If Slovenia wishes to join the most developed European countries, it will have to speed up its economic growth. In the second part of a monograph, a number of topics, based on a survey of a sample of 672 enterprises are dealt with. We studied the relationship between banks and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), female entrepreneurship, clustering, social responsibility of companies and the development of competences.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE FEMALE FICTION DETECTIVE FROM 1930 TO 2010
Monika Vengust, 2011, diplomsko delo

Opis: The diploma thesis with the title Development of the female fiction detective from 1930 to 2010 is dealing with three female detective characters that appeared in the mentioned time period and made or are still making some influence on the readers. These three detectives are Agatha Christie’s Miss Jane Marple, Nancy Drew, a character of many ghost-writers, and Mma Precious Ramotswe, the creation of Alexander McCall Smith. This dissertation starts with the beginning of detective fiction and how it developed through ages. It describes the genre in America and Britain and leads us through the Golden Age of detective fiction. It continues with description of differences between the detective story, the crime novel and the police novel. There are also explanations of several subgenres. The last part describes the main characters. We can see their beginnings, methods and ways of solving crimes, how did writers’ backgrounds affect the knowledge of their fiction characters and what are some similarities and differences between characters. Through this description it is evident, how a female fiction detective develops. Finally there is a short comparison between the main characters, to support the thesis.
