Analytical modelling of achieving energy efficiency with green walls
Dejan Tasić, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: In the last years, energy efficiency has become an important issue for the EU and Slovenia, who both strive for more sustainable use of energy in buildings. As an innovative approach to such matter, green walls are vertical structures that can serve both as a façade or an insulation layer as well as an aesthetic design for building application. This thesis contains calculated annual heat (transmission) losses through different wall assemblies with and without a constructed green wall in front of them. The goal is to compare values of heat losses between those wall assemblies and the explanation of such results which will determine if green walls present a viable energy-efficient structure for buildings.

Sustainable refurbishment of Martin Konšak Primary School in Maribor
Hristijan Babuka, 2016, magistrsko delo

Opis: The thesis tends to present a comprehensive approach for sustainable refurbishment of primary schools, treating Martin Konšak Primary School in Maribor as a case study. The first part provides theoretical framework in which understanding of the sustainable refurbishment of schools is formed. Moreover, energy-efficient and sustainable principles of design are introduced. The following part deals with detailed analysis of the existing school. The investigation extends from site analysis - climate conditions, orientation, and urban context - to school building analysis, which includes an overview of the history and the current situation of the school, architectural evaluation, and energy analysis, resulting in summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of the existing building. The final part synthesizes the knowledge and proposes a final design solution for sustainable refurbishment of the school. The refurbishment concept involves renovation or demolition of particular elements and extension of the building's volume. Furthermore, it covers energy-efficient design principles and passive and active strategies to reduce energy consumption of the building and improve its environmental performance. The thesis concludes with simulations of building's energy use before and after the refurbishment.

Analysing energy and material saving technologies' adoption and adopters
Iztok Palčič, Marc Pons, Andrea Bikfalvi, Josep Llach Pagès, Borut Buchmeister, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main objective of this paper is to map the adoption of technologies for energy reduction and resources consumption in production. The aim is also to contribute to the identification and understanding of the characteristics of the manufacturing firms that use these kinds of energy and material saving technologies. Our research is based on data from the largest European manufacturing survey to date and it includes data from Spain and Slovenia. The results show that the use of specific energy saving technologies and material saving technologies in manufacturing firms is still modest. Dividing manufacturing firms based on technology intensity sectors and based on their relative energy efficiency we have concluded that firms in high technology industries focus less on energy efficiency than low technology firms. Some other specific relationships between the use of energy efficient technologies and adopters' characteristics (e. g. use of environmental management systems) are presented in this paper.

Impact of the proportion of glazing surface in south facade on energy efficiency of prefabricated timber buildings
Vesna Žegarac Leskovar, Miroslav Premrov, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper presents the reasonability of using an increased proportion of glazing surfaces in prefabricated timberframe structural systems with a special focus on the energy certification of the building. The research is based on a case study of a two-storey house with a prefabricated timber-frame as well as with cross-laminated structural system with a parametric analysis of an increased-proportion-of-the-glazing-surfaces impact on south side of thebuilding, taking the climate data for Ljubljana into consideration. The analysis was carried out on different exterior wall elements having different thermal properties, while the rest of the parameters, such as the ground plan of the model as well as the active systems, roof and floor slab assemblies remain constant. The graphical presentation includes a function curve showing the annual energy demand for heating and cooling depending on the proportion of the glazing area in relation to the total surface area of the south façade of the building.

Exploring the impact of energy efficiency technologies on firm performance
Marc Pons, Andrea Bikfalvi, Josep Llach Pagès, Iztok Palčič, 2012, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: The objective of this paper is firstly to map the adoption of the technologies for reduction of energy and resources consumption in production and, second, to verify the relationship between their implementation and the performance of the firm. The aim is also to contribute to the identification and understanding of the characteristics of the manufacturing firms that use this kind of innovative technologies in order to help policy makers to promote this strategic field in a suitable manner. Our suggested models give rise to explain how significant energy efficiency is, and how much of the variability in economic performance and environmental performance indicators can it explain.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT AS A TOOL FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE COMPANY KOPUN SIMTO Ltd.
Kaja Černjavič, 2013, magistrsko delo

Opis: The problem we referred to is great and mostly uncontrolled energy consumption in the public and private sector not just in Slovenia but also in other countries around the world. In Europe some restrictions were met, which resulted in 2009 in a new standard, the EN 16001:2009, two years later the International Standardization Body issued the ISO 50001:2011, energy management standard. With the help of a case study potential in energy and emissions as well as overall environmental protection was presented. All anticipated research methods were followed, hypothesises set in the introduction were carefully researched and mainly proven to be right whereas some, hypothesis one and two, connected with the increase of energy consumption in Slovenia and hypothesis two, number of certificates per capita, were refuted. The overall consumption of energy in Slovenia decreased (table 2, page 15) in the year 2011 compared to 2010. Slovenia is also not the country with the lowest number of issued energy certificates per capita; Portugal has two (picture 1, page 35). Hypothesises three to five linked to the study case were fully proven to be right; the company did not have an energy management programme but the owners were fully aware of the possibilities of energy savings. There was as well energy savings potential, proven to be even more that the first anticipated 50-percent. Our conclusion is that energy management plays a key role in sustainable development and environment conservation practices, as it helps the country move towards an energy efficient economy. With the help of the case study we made a good illustration how a micro company saved 75-percent of energy costs in the first year, by using energy management as a tool. The main and general changes enhanced the company’s energy efficiency, taught employees some basic techniques for achieving greater energy efficiency and cost reduction not just inside the organization but also in family homes. It is important, that expenditures concerning energy purchase and consumption are exactly defined. Before the implementation and certainly after it, energy management accounting and energy management audits should be performed. This serves as a tool to realize and understand the full spectrum of the environmental costs and helps to create internal demand in businesses for cleaner and less wasteful production processes. It gives organizations a preferential position to engage in pollution prevention activities mainly because it makes good business sense due to the immediate financial benefits it delivers. The prime goal of the thesis was to stimulate organizations to implement the concepts of energy management practices into their organizational structure and to use energy management systems for lowering energy and other environmental costs, no matter the size or segment the organization. There is no need to get certified if not wanted; just performing these activities is enough, as it brings all the benefits to the environment. Helping to achieve this goal is now mainly in the hands of others, it is important how the country will act and react and help organizations to achieve this goal. Different restrictions can be met on the field of law and taxes, subsidies, etc. We believe that, for meeting all the required goals (Kyoto protocol and other) and help the economy to move towards a sustainable one, organizations will have to reorganize their structures and implement energy management. There are big potentials in reduction of emissions and energy consumption, with energy management, organizations can get the help and knowledge how to keep the budget of energy consumption as low as possible, how to meet all the critical objectives and also important, reduce their operational costs on a long-term basis.
