The effect of pretreatment on the environment and dyeing properties of a selected cotton knitted fabric
Darinka Fakin, Darko Golob, Zoran Stjepanović, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The current preparation of cotton knitted fabric prior to dyeing mainly involves a combined process consisting of scouring and peroxide bleaching. In this research two pre-treatment procedures, i.e. combined alkaline scouring/bleaching and enzymatic scouring/bleaching, were compared and their effects evaluated regarding environmental impact, whiteness and dyeing properties. Different pre-treated samples of cotton knitted fabrics were subsequently dyed with a chosen set of bifunctional reactive Cibacron LS dyes. The results obtained indicate that combined pre-treatment by enzymatic scouring/bleaching can be regarded as a good alternative to alkaline scouring/bleaching since it results in lower pollution of waste-water, lower SAK value after dyeing, washing and soaping, and consequently lower hydrolysation of dyestuff. Furthermore, added advantages are that it produces similar whiteness, similar dye exhaustion and, with the exception of black dyestuff, comparable dyeing results.

Flax fibres sorption properties influenced by different pretreatment processes
Tatjana Kreže, Severina Iskrač, Majda Sfiligoj-Smole, Karin Stana-Kleinschek, Simona Strnad, Darinka Fakin, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The sorption behavior of raw and treated flax fibers was investigated. This paper presents the effect of conventional pretreatment processes (alkaline, acid) in comparison to environment-friendly enzymatic processes on the sorption ability of flax fibers. Weight-loss, moisture sorption, water retention value and contact angle were determined in order to interpret the pretreatment results. In addition, the influence of the process on the fibers' mechanical properties was studied. The ecological parameters of the treatment wastewaters were analyzed.

The applicability of an advanced oxidation process for textile finishing wastestreams & fate of persistent organic pollutants
Julija Volmajer Valh, Alenka Majcen Le Marechal, Boštjan Križanec, Simona Vajnhandl, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The trend of sustainable use of available water resources encourages textile finishing enterprises to implement efficient wastewater treatment technologies that enable water recycling, and not just itćs discharging into the local wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). This paper presents the results obtained from the H2O2/UV treatment of wastewater from Slovene textile finishing company. Laboratory scale decolouration experiments were performed on the most representative wastewater samples, collected in three months period. In general 80 % decolouration and 86 % total organic carbon (TOC) reduction was achieved. On the other hand, the use of ultraviolet (UV) radiation to degrade and destroy organic pollutants in textile wastewater could lead to the formation of toxic dioxins and dioxin-like compounds, groups of persistent organic pollutants, especially due to the presence of halogenated compounds in textile finishing processes. For these reasons, textile wastewater samples were analysed for any content of dioxins before and after the treatment with H2O2/UV.
