Abstract: I researched how accurate the dramatization of medical science is in the television series The Knick. The thesis is separated into two parts. In the first part, I analyze the accuracy of the depiction of real persons in the series. The main character John Thackery is an adaptation of the real-life surgeon William Halsted. The character of Dr. Cotton is a dramatization of the real psychiatrist named Henry Cotton. The series also adapts the story of Mary Mallon, who was a healthy carrier of typhoid fever and was responsible for spreading the disease in households where she worked as a cook. In the second part of my thesis, I analyze the accuracy of the medical science depicted in the series and explain how the producers used visual effects to achieve historical accuracy. Keywords: The Knick, dramatization, adaptation, science, analysis, comparison.Published in DKUM: 04.04.2018; Views: 1257; Downloads: 133 Full text (651,26 KB)
