Intergenerational differences and knowledge transfer among slovenian engineers
Magda Lužar, Annmarie Gorenc Zoran, Mirko Markič, Boris Bukovec, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: The study investigated the impact of intergenerational differences on knowledge transfer among engineers in large Slovenian production organizations. Method: Using the Delphi method, experts answered open-ended questions. The process concluded with a consensus reached in the third round. The resulting questionnaire was then administered to engineers of all ages working in large production organizations. Results: The experts’ responses indicated that intergenerational differences are most prominent in the workplace in terms of computer literacy and the use of information and communications technology. Effective employee engagement, including exemplary leadership, a system of mentoring and reverse mentoring, and a supportive organizational culture, was found to enhance the flow of knowledge transfer. Statistical analysis revealed that there are statistically significance intergenerational differences in knowledge transfer among engineers in large production organizations (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The study’s findings suggest that recognizing intergenerational differences and fostering the abilities of employees can contribute to organizational success. However, the study is limited to engineers in large production organizations in Slovenia. Future research should explore organizations in a wider geographical area and across different sectors.

Intercultural communicative competence in virtual and face-to-face teamwork : a quantitative analysis of culturally diverse teams
Katul Yousef, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of virtual teams has increased during this period. There is a gap in current literature about the transformation of cultural diversity, how it appears in face-to-face interactions, and how it does in virtual teamwork. Global, virtual coworking requires different skills in order to communicate efficiently and understand the team members. This paper analyzes the importance of intercultural communicative competence in virtual and face-to-face teamwork. Methodology: The research was conducted with a quantitative methodology to see the pattern regarding teamwork throughout culturally diverse teams. A total of 133 questionnaires were obtained for the data analysis. The collected data were then analyzed by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 program. Findings: The results found that intercultural communicative competence is crucial in virtual teams. With better intercultural competence, cultural differences can be identified and considered during project management. However, in face-to-face teamwork, it seems to be more complex. Willingness to discover another culture and eagerness to understand fellow teammates makes a higher priority than being temporarily effective due to intercultural competence. Conclusion: Intercultural communicative competence is a crucial workplace requirement in today’s globalized world, regardless of branch, profession, or geographic location. The ability to understand people with different cultural backgrounds is an increasingly important competency both virtually and in face-to-face interactions.

A survey of teachers' perspectives on the reception ability of younger students after emergency remote teaching during COVID-19
Maja Kerneža, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Emergency remote teaching presented many new and unknown situations. Many studies have examined the impact of distance education on children’s learning outcomes, including in the area of first language, particularly in reading and writing skills, and reading literacy. This research examines the area of literature teaching, more specifically the effects of the change in teaching on younger students’ reception ability. One hundred and ninety-six teachers participated in the quantitative, explorative study. Responses indicate that there are moderate and major differences in the receptive skills of elementary students in the first through third grades, compared to students taught prior to the pandemic.

Generational perspectives and motivations within the gig economy in Slovenia
Ivona Huđek, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper aims to examine how the gig economy, as a global trend that is transforming labour markets worldwide, manifests itself in a smaller economy such as Slovenia. Specifically, the paper focuses on how this trend is manifested among Slovenian freelancers, with an emphasis on generational differences. Descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Chi-square test, were used in the study to explore perceptions and generational differences and to determine whether they are statistically significant. The results show that both younger and older individuals are likely to choose freelance work due to the need for flexibility and independence in project selection, reflecting their desire for greater control over their personal and professional lives. In addition, the research reveals a perception of insufficient support for such new types of careers and a need for educational programmes to improve skills and awareness of the digital labour market. The findings suggest the need for targeted policy measures to support freelancers of different age groups by implementing comprehensive government programs that promote lifelong learning and upskilling, enable the development of local coworking spaces, provide digital market information and include entrepreneurship education and digital literacy in school curricula to strengthen freelance careers, making them sustainable and contributing economically to regional development.

Factors for customers’ AI use readiness in physical retail stores : the interplay of consumer attitudes and gender differences
Nina Kolar, Borut Milfelner, Aleksandra Pisnik, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In addressing the nuanced interplay between consumer attitudes and Artificial Intelligence (AI) use readiness in physical retail stores, the main objective of this study is to test the impacts of prior experience, as well as perceived risks with AI technologies, self-assessment of consumers’ ability to manage AI technologies, and the moderator role of gender in this relationship. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey, data from 243 consumers familiar with AI technologies were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) methods to explore these dynamics in the context of physical retail stores. Additionally, the moderating impacts were tested after the invariance analysis across both gender groups. Key findings indicate that positive prior experience with AI technologies positively influences AI use readiness in physical retail stores, while perceived risks with AI technologies serve as a deterrent. Gender differences significantly moderate these effects, with perceived risks with AI technologies more negatively impacting women’s AI use readiness and self-assessment of the ability to manage AI technologies showing a stronger positive impact on men’s AI use readiness. The study concludes that retailers must consider these gender-specific perceptions and attitudes toward AI to develop more effective strategies for technology integration. Our research also highlights the need to address gender-specific barriers and biases when adopting AI technology.

Employees’ entrepreneurial work and intention to become independent entrepreneurs : a comparison of India and Slovenia
Sahana Swaroop, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Employees' different levels of entrepreneurial work are likely to be associated with varying levels of knowledge and intentions in a country. This leads the current paper to argue how entrepreneurial work by employees influences employees' approach to running their businesses in India and Slovenia. Random samples of employees in India and Slovenia were surveyed from 2012 to 2019 by Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. The current study emphasized the significant role of entrepreneurial work by employees in their potential to become independent entrepreneurs, albeit with differences between India and Slovenia. Our main theoretical contribution is bridging the gap between dynamic capability and entrepreneurial work by employees at the macro level in India and Slovenia. Additionally, the study provides practical suggestions for Indian policymakers and Slovenian owners/managers.

Discrete memristive Hindmarsh-Rose neural model with fractional-order differences
Fatemeh Parastesh, Karthikeyan Rajagopal, Sajad Jafari, Matjaž Perc, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Discrete systems can offer advantages over continuous ones in certain contexts, particularly in terms of simplicity and reduced computational costs, though this may vary depending on the specific application and requirements. Recently, there has been growing interest in using fractional differences to enhance discrete models' flexibility and incorporate memory effects. This paper examines the dynamics of the discrete memristive Hindmarsh-Rose model by integrating fractional-order differences. Our results highlight the complex dynamics of the fractional-order model, revealing that chaotic firing depends on both the fractional-order and magnetic strength. Notably, certain magnetic strengths induce a transition from periodic firing in the integer-order model to chaotic behavior in the fractional-order model. Additionally, we explore the dynamics of two coupled discrete systems, finding that electrical coupling leads to the synchronization of chaotic dynamics, while chemical coupling ultimately results in a quiescent state.

Suitability of test procedures for determining the compatibility of seal materials with ionic hydraulic fluids
Darko Lovrec, Vito Tič, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The compatibility of seal materials with the working fluid is crucial for the flawless, energysaving, environmentally sustainable, and safe operation of any technical system. This is especially true for hydraulic systems operating under high operating pressure. The problem of materials compatibility comes into play when either a new type of seal material or a new type of fluid comes into use. The paper discusses the research findings regarding material compatibility testing of new high-tech ionic hydraulic fluids with commonly used seal materials. Due to the completely different chemical composition of these new fluids compared to the classical mineral-based oil, for these fluids, there are no standardized testing procedures. In these cases, we can only lean on the Standards that apply to classical fluids, which can lead to incorrect results. In the forefront of the paper is the discrepancy between the results obtained by the standardized test, and the test under real operating conditions. FKM, an excellent material for seals, proved to be the most suitable in the case of using ionic hydraulic fluid, according to a standardized test. However, it failed in the comparison test under real operating conditions, as the cylinder leaked. NBR seals proved to be a better solution.

Factors of hospital mortality in men and women with ST-elevation myocardial infarction - an observational, retrospective, single centre study
Martin Marinšek, David Šuran, Andreja Sinkovič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: There are well-known gender differences in mortality of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Our purpose was to assess factors of hospital mortality separately for men and women with STEMI, which are less well known. Patients and Methods: In 2018– 2019, 485 men and 214 women with STEMI underwent treatment with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We retrospectively compared baseline characteristics, treatments and hospital complications between men and women, as well as between nonsurviving and surviving men and women with STEMI. Results: Primary PCI was performed in 94% of men and 91.1% of women with STEMI, respectively. The in-hospital mortality was significantly higher in women than in men (14% vs 8%, p=0.019). Hospital mortality in both genders was associated significantly to older age, heart failure, prior resuscitation, acute kidney injury, to less likely performed and less successful primary PCI and additionally in men to hospital infection and in women to bleeding. In men and women ≥ 65 years, mortality was similar (13.3% vs 17.8%, p = 0.293). Conclusion: Factors of hospital mortality were similar in men and women with STEMI, except bleeding was more likely observed in nonsurviving women and infection in nonsurviving men.
