Travel writing as an instrument of cultural heritage promotion
Jasna Potočnik Topler, Charlie Mansfield, Hugues Séraphin, Philipp Wassler, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study contributes to the research literature through its approach to equipping tourism content creatives who are entering the professions of destination image communication with platform expertise alongside cooperation and co-creation leadership. Productive skills for travel writers and social media content producers in tourism are significant in the co-creation of sustainable tourist experiences since they are interactive and participative. The two purposes of this study are to implement and improve the dialogue journaling process as a re-usable methodology. The new 3-step processual research methodology is explained through a case study with stakeholders and project leaders in Brežice, Slovenia. The paper contributes to pragmatic tourism management concerns and practice by reporting findings from a real-world process project on cultural heritage that provides a re-usable solution.

From zero to one: a new perspective on the fuzzy front end of innovation and the Stage-Gate® model
Peter Alešnik, Igor Vrečko, Iztok Palčič, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The Stage-Gate® model has historically provided a systematic framework for New Product Development (NPD). However, the evolving landscape of innovation necessitates continuous enhancement. This paper redefines the model's foundational structure by advocating for the recognition of the Discovery Phase as Stage 1, emphasizing its essential role in aligning initial ideation with strategic goals, streamlining processes, and enhancing NPD efforts. Using a mixed-methods approach, including a systematic literature review, synthesis of illustrative examples and secondary data and case study analysis, the research demonstrates that formalizing the Discovery Phase improves earlystage decision-making, enhances alignment between front-end exploration and downstream execution and mitigates risks by supporting more informed project development. Synthesised sectoral examples show that incorporating the Discovery Phase improves feasibility, reduces risk, and boosts efficiency. For example, simulation planning early in innovation process increased manufacturing throughput by 52 %, while early IP checks lowered infringement risk. The proposed revision boosts the Stage-Gate® model's adaptability and integration with modern methodologies such as AI, Agile, Lean Startup, Design Thinking and TRIZ. The findings highlight how this change promotes a comprehensive approach to NPD. The implications extend to practical applications and future research, offering organizations a flexible framework that meets modern market and technological demands.

The role of dark tourism in shaping collective memory and tourism development : the case of the Srebrenica Genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina : the case of the Srebrenica Genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Vedad Abdagić, 2025, diplomsko delo

Opis: This thesis uses the Srebrenica Genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a case study to examine how dark tourism contributes to the development of tourism and the preservation of collective memory. It examines the ways in which memorial sites, like the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Centre, support ethical tourism, promote reconciliation, and shape Bosniak communal identity. The study explores how historical trauma is perceived and communicated to both domestic and foreign tourists by utilizing the ideas of collective and cultural memory. The study uses qualitative techniques, including as interviews with important stakeholders, to investigate how genocide memorialization affects Bosnia's tourism industry and larger sociopolitical processes. Considering the difficulties of political tensions, global narratives, and local sensitivities, it draws attention to the fine balance between memory preservation and tourism development. In order to strengthen the significance of respectful recollection in post-conflict communities, the findings are intended to provide guidelines for sustainable dark tourism practices that promote education, empathy, and historical understanding

The impact of cross-border tourism in Ulcinj : a study of tourism development between Montenegro and Albania : a study of tourism development between Montenegro and Albania
Ajla Bajramspahić, 2025, diplomsko delo

Opis: This thesis investigates how Ulcinj's growth within the Montenegro–Albania corridor is influenced by cross-border tourism. First, a theoretical analysis demonstrated the connections between demand for tourism, employment, and investment; the significance of cooperation and governance; the interdependence of tourism and mobility; and the consequences of seasonality and sustainability. Next, we interviewed emergency services, public administration, local politicians, and business sector stakeholders in lodging and hospitality. The results show distinct advantages for turnover, employment, and small-scale investment, but they also show enduring drawbacks, such as poor public transportation and car-free accessibility, border lines and procedural unpredictability, disjointed governance, irregular electronic payments and taxi rates, noticeable summer peaks, and peak-season strain on municipal services. Targeted last-mile infrastructure improvements planned off-season events, operational mayor/DMO collaboration, direct cross-border public transportation links with basic one-stop/digital facilitation, and harmonized coastal standards were all recommendations made by interviewees. In order to establish a more stable, higher-value, year-round destination system, the thesis concludes by highlighting the necessity of strengthening operational environmental management, integrating mobility and border facilitation, improving governance coordination, and packaging and jointly marketing cross-border products.

From Teran to Tourism: Discovering the Opportunities of the Slovenian Wine-Growing District Karst : discovering the opportunities of the Slovenian wine-growing district Karst
Elizaveta Ibragimova, 2025, magistrsko delo

Opis: This master's thesis examines the potential of the Karst wine-growing district in Slovenia as a wine tourism destination, with a particular focus on the role of Teran wine. Despite its rich cultural heritage and unique terroir, the Karst has remained underrepresented in national tourism promotion. The study was designed to explore how the region's natural, cultural, and gastronomic assets could be used to enhance the development of a more competitive and distinctive wine tourism offering. A mixed methods approach was employed, in which a quantitative survey was conducted among tourists and local residents at wine-related events, and qualitative interviews were carried out with local winemakers. Participants’ perceptions, motivations, and associations related to the Karst wine-growing district were analyzed, while insights into the development of wine tourism and regional challenges were gathered through the interviews. The findings indicated both barriers and opportunities in the region’s wine tourism development. While limited visibility and weak coordination among stakeholders involved in tourism and winemaking were identified as key challenges, significant potential was also recognized, rooted in the Karst’s cultural heritage, natural landscape, and winemaking traditions. Efforts to enhance the visibility and competitiveness of the Karst as a wine tourism destination are supported through practical recommendations and contributions to the academic discourse on destination development.

Environmental pollution and economic activity : estimating the environmental Kuznets curve for a panel of countries worldwide
Darja Boršič, Petar Todorčević, Nejc Fir, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper aims to assess the impact of certain economic factors on pollution for selected 112 countries worldwide. Due to data availability, carbon dioxide emissions in tonnes per capita were chosen as the dependent variable measuring pollution. Based on panel data and generalized moments method, the relationship between economic activity and environmental pollution was estimated. The results show that in the whole sample, as well as for two subsamples of developed and undeveloped countries, carbon dioxide emissions are statistically significantly affected by gross domestic product per capita, energy intensity and renewable energy consumption. The linear effect of economic activity positively effects the pollution, while the quadratic relationship is negative. Thus, the validity of inverted-U curve of the environmental Kuznets curve has been demonstrated. The estimated effect of economic activity measured by gross domestic product per capita on pollution does not differ in developed and undeveloped countries.

Dejan Zemljak, Borut Čampelj, Urška Martinc, Maja Kerneža, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Purpose: The purpose of the research was to explore how virtual exchanges can empower teachers of engineering and technology and practical subjects. The aim was to determine whether and how these teachers see virtual exchanges as an opportunity for personal and professional development, improvement of teaching, and exchange of good practices. Findings: The research was conducted at the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year with interviews conducted via online video calls. The sample included 16 teachers and 2 students (future teachers of engineering and technology). Before the interviews, participants received an introductory presentation of the concept of virtual exchanges and then answered four pre-prepared questions that focused on the perception and meaning of these exchanges for teachers. Originality/value: The paper is important because it focuses on a less researched area -the use of virtual exchanges in the context of technical education that includes practical work. The research fills a gap in the literature and offers valuable insights for the development of international collaboration among teachers of technical subjects and for the design of supporting platforms, tools and policies that would enable and promote this collaboration.

Integrating computer science and informatics education in primary schools : insights from a Slovenian professional development initiative
Andrej Flogie, Alenka Lipovec, Jakob Škrobar, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this study, we present a professional development programme for teachers launched to introduce Computer Science and Informatics (CSI) in primary education in Slovenia. The study aims to examine which CSI core concepts teachers most frequently choose to integrate into their lessons when given the freedom to select the topics within the framework, and to explore how students engage with and respond to these activities, as reported in teachers’ reflections. This study is based on reflective feedback from forty-seven teachers from seven primary schools who implemented interdisciplinary lessons that integrate CSI content into existing primary school curricula. Qualitative data from 152 reflections were used to support our research findings. The results show that teachers most frequently introduced the concepts from the content area of algorithms and programming. In contrast, content areas such as computing systems, networks and the internet, data and analysis, and impacts of computing received less attention. Teachers reported that students were motivated and engaged, although some challenges emerged, including difficulties in solving tasks or following instructions. As this pilot study reports on the first year of a two-year initiative, the findings provide preliminary insights into how a structured professional development programme for teachers can support interdisciplinary approaches in CSI education.
