Analysis of workers’ perception and demographic factors : an insight into the Slovenian gig economy
Matevž Antloga, Ivona Huđek, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study examines the gig economy in Slovenia, with a particular emphasis on the perceived benefits and challenges for gig workers within this emerging labour model. The research aims to capture the implications of flexible, project-based employment in a smaller European context, as this trend becomes increasingly prevalent globally. A quantitative approach was employed to survey 34 gig workers in Slovenia. The survey analysed their demographic characteristics, reasons for engaging in gig work, and the benefits and challenges they experience. In the findings, 64% of respondents specifically identified schedule flexibility as a predominant benefit of gig work. However, it also uncovers substantial challenges, including increased market competition and a lack of social benefits. Moreover, the research suggests that perceptions of the gig work benefits are widely acknowledged across various age groups and educational levels, with no significant variation. Nevertheless, the findings indicate a gender disparity in gig work perceptions, with males perceiving higher levels of financial freedom and professional development than women. This research suggests the need for policies aimed at ensuring equity and further research into harmonizing gig work with supportive labour market policies.

Sustainable development goals and higher education : an efficiency analysis
Maja Mihaljević Kosor, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Higher education (HE) is a significant factor in a country’s economic prosperity and plays a vital role in addressing sustainability issues and actively promoting sustainable development. While many EU member countries have well-developed education systems in terms of rankings and SDGs’ attainment, little is known about the progress of other European countries. The goal of this research is to estimate the efficiency of higher education in the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 40 European countries. The method used to estimate efficiency is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with output-orientation and variable returns to scale approach. In the final model specification, two input variables and one output variable are used. Results indicate that the average technical efficiency of the 40 European countries is relatively high and equal to 0.94. Nine countries emerge as fully efficient in achieving SDG 4 with a coefficient equal to 1. The four largest higher education systems achieved an aboveaverage efficiency score of 0.97 or higher. Six countries are recognized as the worst performing. However, more analysis is necessary to examine the sources of inefficiency in the worst-performing countries. Due to specific data limitations indicated in this research, it remains a challenge to evaluate the precise impact of higher education and its contribution to SDGs.

Legal frameworks for promoting Eu sustainable development and tourism industry : master’s thesis
Albert Korolenko, 2025, magistrsko delo

Opis: The European Union (EU) has long emphasized sustainable development as a fundamental policy goal, particularly within its tourism industry, which accounts for approximately 10% of the EU’s GDP. This thesis explores the legal frameworks that promote sustainable tourism development in the EU, analyzing their effectiveness, challenges, and future directions. The study examines the interplay between sustainability principles and tourism regulation, focusing on EU treaties, directives, and strategies such as the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Tourism Indicators System (ETIS) and others. The research assesses how legal mechanisms influence environmental protection, economic growth, and social inclusion within the tourism sector. It also investigates the implementation of EU green policies, analyzing their impact on tourism businesses and local communities. The study highlights best practices from member states, such as sustainable tourism initiatives in Slovenia, Spain, and Germany, illustrating the successful integration of environmental and economic objectives. Findings indicate that while the EU has made significant progress in promoting sustainable tourism, regulatory fragmentation, inconsistent enforcement across member states, and financial constraints hinder full implementation. Recommendations include enhancing regulatory harmonization, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, and leveraging digital tools to monitor sustainability performance thus contributing to the broader discourse on balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.

The adverse impacts of a single exposure to the fungicide picoxystrobin during the larval stage on africanized Apis mellifera
Caio Eduardo da Costa Domingues, Leticia Salvioni Ansaloni, Aleš Gregorc, Elaine C. Mathias da Silva, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Pesticide use remains a problem in agriculture, contaminating natural ecosystems and affecting bees. Fungicides have been widely used worldwide, and honey bees can bring contaminated pollen and nectar to the colony, exposing the larvae. Studies on larval exposure to fungicides are still rare. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the effects of larval exposure to the fungicide picoxystrobin on biological parameters and cellular stress in the fat body. The larvae were single exposure on the fourth day (D4) to picoxystrobin at concentrations of 5 ng a.i./μL (PCX5), 45 ng a.i./μL (PCX45), 135 ng a.i./μL (PCX135), and 400 ng a.i./μL (PCX400). The effects on larval and pupal mortality, pupation rate, and emergence were evaluated. Additionally, cellular stress in the fat body was assessed in newly emerged bees. Exposure to PCX400 increased larval mortality by 26% and reduced the emergence of adult bees. The other concentrations did not affect larval and pupal mortality, or pupation and emergence rates. A cytotoxicity effect was observed in newly emerged bees from PCX400, indicated by positive immunolabeling of HSP70. Thus, a single exposure to picoxystrobin can impair larval development, induce a cellular stress response, and may interfere with colony dynamics.
