3. Intelligent FEA-based design improvementMarina Novak, Bojan Dolšak, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Structural analysis using the finite element method is an integrate part of the design process for many components. Finite element analysis is the most extensively used numerical analysis in mechanical engineering practice and is incorporated into many computer-aided design systems. The existing commercial software is very helpful when supporting realisation of the analysis process but still fails to provide adequate support during the post-processing phase. The results of analysis should be studied and decisions made regarding the designćs suitability with respect to its engineering specifications. In general, design changes are indispensable and designers need help to design them properly. The prototype of an intelligent rule-based consultative system is being developed by the authors to provide such advice when considering a description of the design structurećs critical area. This system is encoded in Prolog. It can deal with the results of prior strain-stress or thermal analysis. It presents a short list of proposed design changes that should be taken into account when improving the design. 7. A model for integrated assessment of sustainable developmentDamjan Krajnc, Peter Glavič, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The focus of the paper is on consideration of how to use indicators to monitor sustainable development in a relevant and useful manner. Integrated information on sustainable development of a company is very essential for decision-making since it is very difficult to evaluate the performance of the company on the ground of too many indicators. The objective of the work was to design a model for obtaining a composite sustainable development index (ICSD) in order to track integrated information on economic, environmental, and social performance of the company with time. Normalized indicators were associated into three sustainability sub-indices and finally composed into an overall indicator of a company performance. This was applied by determining the impact of individual indicator to the overall sustainability of a company using the concept of analytic hierarchy process. The demonstration of the model used data for a case study company, Henkel, and a set of sustainable development indicators that were classified using the currently most widely accepted approach of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Case study was used to measure ICSD and sustainability sub-indices of the company over the time interval of 6 years. Interpretation of results is given and the utility of ICSD with its relevance for decision-making is pointed out. Using a case study, the paper demonstrates that the model can be applied to deliver composite indicators of sustainability performance of companies. 8. An alternative sorting procedure for interactive group decision support based on the pseudo-criterion conceptAndrej Bregar, József Györkös, Ivan Rozman, 2003, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: An original interactive procedure is proposed, which aims at overcoming some of the major weaknesses of existent pseudocriterion based methods for group decision analysis. It refers to absolute judgements of feasible alternatives and is focused on complementary activities of opinion elicitation and robustness analysis. As a foundation, four interdependent principles are introduced - problem localization, interactivity on the basis of aggregation/disaggregation approach, automatic derivation of criteria weights according to selective effects of veto tresholds, and group consensus seeking. The principles are grounded and realized by appropriate methodological solutions.
