1. Crisis management and CSR in Slovenian companies : the impact of the COVID-19 pandemicDuško Uršič, Andrej Smogavc Cestar, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The main aim of this article was to outline how the appearance of COVID-19 changed the global competitiveness of Slovenian companies through the lenses of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crisis management. Based on concepts of CSR and crisis management, we analyzed the responses of companies to ensure their competitiveness in a crisis situation. Two surveys among managers in Slovenian companies were carried out, one in March 2020 (N = 618) and the other in May 2020 (N = 486). Our results showed that internationally oriented companies responded more comprehensively and proactively to the challenges of doing business in the COVID-19 crisis compared to the companies that had operated mainly in the domestic market during this period. The analysis also showed that internationally oriented companies responded to the COVID-19 crisis with more comprehensive measures also using the concept of CSR and crisis management in comparison with companies that, in the time of the pandemic, operated mainly in the domestic market and used fewer principles of CSR and crisis management. The main theoretical implications of this survey are related to CSR development. They emphasize the interdependent importance of experience and impact in international business in connection with the concept of CSR and crisis management in times of COVID-19. Practical implications include proposals to streamline operations to maintain competitiveness and to take advantage of new business opportunities and effects, which are also encouraged through the use of the CSR concept and crisis management. 2. Social media fact-checking: the effects of news literacy and news trust on the intent to verify health-related informationInes Kožuh, Peter Čakš, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The recent health crisis and the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence have caused misinformation on social media to flourish by becoming more sophisticated and challenging to detect. This calls upon fact-checking and questions users’ competencies and attitudes when assessing social media news. Our study provides a model of how fact-checking intent is explained by news literacy and news trust to examine how users behave in the misinformation-prone social media environment. Structural equation modeling was used to examine survey data gathered from social media users. The findings revealed that users’ intent to fact-check information in social media news is explained by (1) news literacy, such as the awareness of various techniques used by creators to depict situations about COVID-19; (2) news trust, in terms of the conviction that the news contains all the essential facts; and (3) intent, such as an aim to check information in multiple pieces of news. The presented findings may aid policymakers and practitioners in developing efficient communication strategies for addressing users less prone to fact-checking. Our contribution offers a new understanding of news literacy as a sufficient tool for combating misinformation, which actively equips users with knowledge and an attitude for social media news fact-checking. 6. Crisis management in a private clinic during covid-19Evgeniia Popova, 2022, magistrsko delo Opis: Introduction: The coronavirus crisis emerged suddenly, triggering a global health crisis. And while public hospitals were coping with a huge influx of patients, and an ensuing shortage of hospital beds, private clinics were trying to survive in conditions of total work restrictions, which resulted in a lack of patients and, consequently, income. In our work, we will consider one of these clinics located in Moscow.
Methods: We conducted a study in the search databases Yandex, Google Scholar, Google Books, Cobbis, Research Gate, PubMed, using the following keywords: covid, private clinic, crisis management. Those sources yielded the results which we used in writing the work.
Results in Discussion: After the clinic was opened at the end of the first quarantine, it managed to enter into a state partnership programme and attract patients for testing and vaccination services against coronavirus, both for individuals and for organization employees. As a result, more than 60 percent of the patients of the clinic were employees of organizations. The recovery stage of the clinic took, according to average estimates, about six months, at which time the turnover of the clinic recovered to approximately 80 percent of the pre-crisis period.
Conclusion: During the study, we found that successful crisis management is influenced by such factors as: leadership, good management, effective communication between employees, supportive atmosphere, and courage on the part of employees. 8. Collaboration between investigation and crisis intervention for the investigative interview in suicide attemptsBurak M. Gönültaş, Cristin Sauter, Meral Öztürk, Murat Yildiz, 2020, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Purpose: The present study aims to understand whether investigation and crisis intervention processes can be coupled together in suicide attempt cases in order to mitigate secondary victimisation and whether a social worker as an interventionist can accomplish this. Design/Methods/Approach: This study relies on a literature review with the help of various databases, including PubMed, Springer Database, PsycoINFO and official national and international websites. In this study, the keywords (suicide, crisis intervention, investigation, social work, social worker) were determined for screening according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Findings: We found 38 articles, 8 of which were categorised by the research team in several groups with a level of 92% agreement. We categorised them using the mentioned keywords and four groups emerged as a result: suicide and crisis intervention, crisis intervention and social workers, suicide and investigation, investigation and social work. Overviews of papers for each group are presented. Practical Implications: Investigative interviews and crisis intervention processes may be coupled together in cases of suicide attempts. This process holds the potential to increase the rigour and effectiveness of data collection for the case, allow experts to lend their knowledge and skills in support of each other, and provide opportunities for more comprehensive problem-solving in crises. Thus, according to the literature and practice, the output of the current study appears to be implementable. Originality/Value: The conceptual framework revealed in this study may be used as a valuable source for future studies on the topic of collaboration occurring between the investigation on one side and social and psychological crisis intervention services on the other. 10. Neoliberal metaphor as a quasi-economic paradigm in function of vulgarized institutional monism and an experiment of interestVeselin Drašković, 2014, znanstvena monografija Opis: We live in a time that according neoliberalism (as an ideology, doctrine, philosophy, theory and metaphor) in global and local boundaries manifests itself as an immoral, inhumane, brutal, chaotic, crisis and hegemonic system (order) of power, governance, violence, exploitation and greed. This is the time when everything is relativized, thanks to neoliberalism, paradoxically and ironically, due to interests and rhetorical absolutism of freedom and market. The reason for writing this manuscript is not just analysis, explanation and critique of neoliberalism and its forms, but also the cause of its evolution towards vulgarized quasi-neoliberal model.
The aim of this manuscript is to point out:
- neoliberal causes of the permanent and crisis transition, which caused major problems and deformities, and created a new dogma with uncertain lifetime,
- inadequate civilizational environment, etatistic tradition and the creation of a quasi-institutional conditions that have enabled the introduction of new elitist (to a certain extent and sense of totalitarian) system under the mask of neoliberalism,
- the fact that forcing of quasi-neoliberalism is a privilege of unreasonable and/or highly interest oriented “reformists”, because delaying changes means delaying development,
- the difference between rhetoric and practice, ie. between the story of liberal democracy (which promotes the rights of individuals, human and social freedoms and human rights, as opposed to collectivism, totalitarianism and authoritarian policies) and quasi-neoliberal economic policies (global and transitional), that were dominant worldwide and paradoxically violates all liberal principles, and e) the use of state as a screen for expressing expansive nomenclature interests and non-market appropriation of its significant resources.
The aim is to point to the existence and functioning of the vicious circle of crisis (global and transitional), created by the following relation: theoretical neoliberalism as an institutional monism – its vulgarization, dogmatisation and subjectivity in practice – through manifestation of freedom of operation and connectivity of supranational and national elites – tycoonisation and the criminalization of the economy and society – reproduction of the crisis.
This article is not written to point out the culprits or their recognition, but only the phenomenological and ontological critique of quasi-institutional monism and advocating the institutional pluralism, which I believe is civilizational and development imperative. For the purpose of warning, this manuscript suggests a critical review and consideration of ending (eliminating) the abuse of neoliberal theoretical concepts into practical interest purposes, ending a deadly, sophisticated and dogmatic neoliberal metaphor for numerous national and state troubles and anti-developmental contradictions.
I came to the conclusion that neoliberalism is merely a metaphor that conceptually generates a conglomerated complex and contradictory context, which has its own doctrinal, terminological, institutional, developmental, cognitive, strategic, interest, redistributive, ownership, civilizational, geopolitical and ideological meaning and numerous practical quasi-manifestations.
