Optimizing digital image quality for improved skin cancer detection
Bogdan Dugonik, Marjan Golob, Marko Marhl, Aleksandra Vučinič Dugonik, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The rising incidence of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, underscores the need for improved diagnostic tools in dermatology. Accurate imaging plays a crucial role in early detection, yet challenges related to color accuracy, image distortion, and resolution persist, leading to diagnostic errors. This study addresses these issues by evaluating color reproduction accuracy across various imaging devices and lighting conditions. Using a ColorChecker test chart, color deviations were measured through Euclidean distances (∆E*, ∆C*), and nonlinear color differences (∆E00, ∆C00), while the color rendering index (CRI) and television lighting consistency index (TLCI) were used to evaluate the influence of light sources on image accuracy. Significant color discrepancies were identified among mobile phones, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras, with inadequate dermatoscope lighting systems contributing to further inaccuracies. We demonstrate practical applications, including manual camera adjustments, grayscale reference cards, post-processing techniques, and optimized lighting conditions, to improve color accuracy. This study provides applicable solutions for enhancing color accuracy in dermatological imaging, emphasizing the need for standardized calibration techniques and imaging protocols to improve diagnostic reliability, support AI-assisted skin cancer detection, and contribute to high-quality image databases for clinical and automated analysis.

Visual Intelligence – Use and Manipulation in TV Advertising
Vlatka Bajcer, 2017, magistrsko delo

Opis: The main goal of this master thesis is to study how visual communication in TV advertising affects our psyche, examine the elements that can serve to awaken emotions and certain reactions of viewers. TV commercials are one of the most popular content available to us on television, bringing great profits to TV stations, as well as profit organizations that are advertised on their channels. Competition in TV advertising is huge and in order to achieve a successful campaign is necessary to understand how the marketing, media, psychology of visual communication and other elements that can affect the psyche of the viewer, such as cultural identity are functioning.

A sensitivity model and repeatability of recipe colour
Boris Sluban, Olivera Šauperl, 2001, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper briefly describes a mathematical model of the colorant mixture colour sensitivity to concentration errors and the numerical estimates of the related quantities. Features of the theoretical model are illustrated with the results of a number of numerical experiments in which the optical data of a few basic dyes applied to textile fabric were used to predict the sensitivities of recipes for sets of target colours spaced regularly in the colour solid. The rest of the article deals with the question whether the predicted values of recipe colour sensitivity provide useful information about the repeatability of recipe colour. The results of a few groups of laboratory experiments involving the textile fabric dyeing with basic dyes have been analysed with this question in mind.

Characteristics of Black English Vernacular in the novel The Color Purple
Patricija Tojnko, 2012, diplomsko delo

Opis: The diploma paper Characteristics of Black English Vernacular in the novel The Color Purple deals with Black English Vernacular. The main aims are to present the development of Black English and Black English Vernacular through time, to present and get to know the famous black writers through history, to get to know where Black English Vernacular stands in contemporary literature, to compare Black English Vernacular to Standard English, and to analyse the use of Black English Vernacular in Alice Walker’s masterpiece The Color Purple. African Americans had to fight hard to keep their language alive; their language was a means to communicate and to keep their spirits high through different trials. Different prejudices existed connected to the Black English Vernacular and speaking it automatically meant that the speaker was looked upon as someone illiterate and inferior. But black people were strong and proud of their language and with their infinite effort they succeeded to preserve something that would become; one of the most interesting parts of the English language. The first part of the diploma paper is theoretical; in the second part we analysed and compared Black English Vernacular to Standard American English. We applied the analysis to Celie’s and Nettie’s emotions and later compared the ways they spoke - according to their different life periods.

Is color-dispositionalism nasty and unecological?
Nenad Miščević, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article is a brief presentation and defense of response-dispositionalist intentionalism against a family of objections. The view claims that for a surface to have an objective stable color is to have a disposition to cause innormal observers a response, namely, intentional phenomenal-color experience. The objections, raised recently by M. Johnston, B. Stroud, and by Byrne and Hilbert, claim that any dispositionalist view is unfair to the naiveperceiverthinker, saddles her with massive error and represents her as maladaptated to her environment. The paper reconstructs the main line of thought in favor of response-intentionalism and argues that it is in fact rather charitable and fair to naive cognizers, and also avoids a cluster of related objections.

Effects of woven fabric construction and color on ultraviolet protection
Polona Dobnik-Dubrovski, Darko Golob, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper presents the effects of woven fabric construction and color on the ultraviolet protection factor. Weave type, fabric tightness, cover factor, volume porosity and color of lightweight summer woven fabrics were observed in this research. Color had the biggest influence on the ultraviolet protectionfactor of fabrics, whereas woven fabric construction was essential when light pastel colored fabrics were used as ultraviolet protection. This work provides guidelines for engineering woven cotton fabrics with sufficient ultraviolet protection.

The total colorant sensitivity of a color matching recipe : an approach to colorant weighting and tinctorial strength errors
Shahram Peyvandi, Seyed Hossein Amirshahi, Boris Sluban, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The repeatability of the recipe color can be affected by several different types of inevitable inaccuracies in the coloration process. Two of the major causes of poor target-color reproducibility are the (random) weighing and (proportional) strength errors. This article describes alternative definitions of colorant strength sensitivity and total colorant sensitivity of a dyeing recipe. The influences of the maximal colorant weighing and strength errors are taken into account in order to bring the magnitudes of the two treated types of sensitivity into a mutually realistic balance between each other. The quantifications of precision and accuracy of a color matching recipe are also developed and combined into a single-number measure of recipe quality. The listed quantities are expected to be useful in selecting the most reliable one(s) among the different formulations for the same standard color. The methods are presented for calculating numerical estimates of the newly introduced quantities. The precision and accuracy of the coloration process are investigated in laboratory experiments involving repeated dyeings.

Progressive method for color selective edge detection
Peter Rulić, Iztok Kramberger, Zdravko Kačič, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Edge detection plays an important role in image analysis systems. We present acolor selective edge detection technique, which consists of two image processing steps. The first step represents pixel-based color detection and the second progressive block-oriented edge detection. The combination of these two steps defines a selective edge detection technique, which enables fast and simple processing of those images captured using arbitrary cameras incomplex scenes with nonstandard illumination. The proposed method was implemented for the detecting of skin color objects and tested on real scene images.
