Supply chain management mitigation to climate change in three selected industrial sectors
Maja Bašić, Špela Kovše, Andraž Opačić, Marijana Pećarević, Matevž Obrecht, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: As the world economy is growing and globalisation is on the rise, climate change and its effects on the planet Earth are also increasing. But climate changes do not disturb only nature; they also affect businesses and their supply chains. Many companies have recently recognised the positive impacts of green and circular supply chain management practices. Supply chains that deliver products from around the world are increasingly exposed to the impacts of a changing climate and scarce resources. In this research, it was determined how climate change impacts supply chains in the food, automobile, and energy industry sectors. Furthermore, we wanted to find out if and how the management of supply chains is altered to adapt to the business environment which is more and more affected by environmental changes.

Converting waste into products and energy using complete circular economy and the hydrogen effect technique to reduce dependence on natural gas
Anita Kovač Kralj, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Conversion of waste into products and energy has the potential to reduce CO2 emis-sion through implementation of a complete circular economy and utilisation of the hy-drogen effect technique. This study considers the novelties of the hydrogen effect tech-nique, which incorporates an upgraded input unit mathematical model. It includes real-simulated results obtained using an Aspen Plus & REG; simulator, and enlarged production. This technique is developed for optimal municipal solid waste (MSW) combustion, gas-ification, and reforming, presented as an upgraded input unit for syngas production, which can reduce CO2 emissions by 3 & BULL;106 kmol a-1. This approach is exemplified by utilizing existing methanol and dimethyl ether production processes from natural gas, as they can be achieved and exceeded using MSW with varying hydrogen amounts. The optimal upgraded methanol and dimethyl ether production processes can increase pro-duction by 47 % and 16 %, including only the upgraded input unit, as well as decrease the temperature in the product reactors by 30 & DEG;C.

Regulatory Aspects of Servitisation : Study Materials for Global Law Course
Janja Hojnik, 2024

Opis: This course material was prepared as a support for a lectures series under Global Law Programme organised by the Catholic University Leuven (Belgium), Faculty of Law and Criminology. The course dealt with EU regulatory challenges arising from the servitisation of manufacturing and the related sustainability and digitalisation process in the EU economy. Servitisation is a complex interdisciplinary concept that essentially stands for bringing together products and services. Servitization as an economic megatrend reflects consumers’ oriented business models, offering not just products to the buyers, but solutions to their problems. This solution offering is enhanced by digitalisation of the economy that makes the relationship between product-service providers and their customers easier to maintain due to various mechanisms of distant communication and monitoring. Moreover, servitisation is at the centre of the endeavours to establish a more sustainable circular economy. Adding services to products can prolong their consumption time, decrease the amount of materials needed for certain effect and improve waste management. Increasingly, however, it is clear that servitisation is not just related to environmental sustainability, but social as well. These services often require people to be performed and digital applications tend to decrease their rights as workers to the benefit of the owners of these applications.

Innovative gasification technology for the circular economy
Teos Perne, Marko Šetinc, Tine Seljak, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article presents a novel gasification technology process in the context of achieving carbon neutrality by establishing a sustainable circulation of carbonaceous materials with a focus on the production of virgin materials from various kinds of waste. The technology can alleviate the key limitations of existing gasification systems, which are the production and management of residue tars. The innovative technology process re-utilizes tars within the reaction itself, enabling an endless cycle of carbon. It also ensures high flexibility for efficiently handling heterogenic waste materials.

Decision support concept for improvement of sustainability-related competences
Andreja Abina, Tanja Batkovič, Bojan Cestnik, Adem Kikaj, Rebeka Kovačič Lukman, Maja Kurbus, Aleksander Zidanšek, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this paper, we derived competences from previously developed competence models, ensuring the effective use of advanced technologies in future factories to improve the sustainability of their business models and strategies. Based on the analysis of the Hogan competence model and competence models for sustainability and leadership, we compiled a selection of competences for digitalisation, automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and soft competences such as emotional intelligence and cultural literacy. We also included competences required for sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and circular economy. The selected competences formed the core for the conceptual development of a decision support tool for the individualised selection of training for employees. The concept was tested in customised training to improve employees’ skills and motivation for lifelong learning at the selected industrial partner. The developed assessment algorithm was used to monitor the progress of individual employees’ skills development before and after their training participation. The results of the assessment help human resource departments make decisions for selecting the most effective and optimal training for employees to improve their sustainability-related competences. Such a systematic approach can improve and evaluate competences that companies need to transition to a circular economy.

Importance of business models in circular economy : bachelor thesis
Fernández Gómez Raquel, 2022, diplomsko delo

Opis: This bachelor thesis studies and analyzes the importance of business models in the Circular Economy. The company studied is an SME, i.e. 10 to 250 employees. The smaller companies are mainly confronted with the problem of resources, and the larger ones with their strategic orientation. The aim is to generate a guideline or way of doing that serves as a model for the SMEs already created so that the transition from the Linear Economy, which is still predominant today, to a Circular Economy. The idea is, after the study, a real case study of SMEs working with the premises of CE to establish a market model that follows the same. To support changes, we have documented the different business models currently in use, choosing the Canvas Business Model for several reasons and making the various changes necessary to make this a sustainable and circular model. In addition, it is established that the process of innovation and modification must be applied as a continuous cyclical process. If the company wants to be successful, it is a continuous cycle model, which should never stop.
