The influence of organizational absorptive capacity on product and process innovation
Nika Murovec, Igor Prodan, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The innovativeness of an organization has an important impact on its profitability as well as on the competitiveness of a country's economy as a whole. Since the innovativeness of Slovenian organizations is low, it is important that managers and industrial policy makers know which factors influence an organizations' innovation. One of these factors is supposed to be the organizational absorptive capacity. Absorptive capacity is one of the most important concepts that have emerged in the field of organizational research in the past years. Absorptive capacity is defined as the set of organizational routines and processes through which an organization identifies and values new external information, and then acquires it, assimilates it and applies it to commercial ends. The results of this research confirm the strong and positive impact of Slovenian organizations' absorptive capacity on process innovation and the even bigger positive influence on the organizations' product innovation.

The management of complaints in Slovene public administration
Janez Stare, Barbara Gruden, Polonca Kovač, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The Slovene public administration is part of the broader social system, therefore it must be responsive and proactive. The instrument of complaint in the administrative procedure, and wider in the context of the entire administrative management, is very helpful to public administration for tracking social changes and should therefore be seen as a form of constructive criticism. On the basis of user complaints regarding its services or the parties to the administrative procedure, the public administration must learn permanently and, as learning organisation, must incorporate its findings into future practice. The starting point of this contribution is the problems of the complaint in the narrow sense - customer dissatisfaction with the functioning of the public administration or arising from the fact that one of the characteristics of the administrative procedure or other services is the direct contact between the customer and the provider of the service. With this approach, the public administration will develop part of an integral system of quality and excellence that underlines the meaning of satisfaction of (all) the users of public services.

Training needs assessment for leaders in nursing based on comparison of competency models
Andreja Kvas, Janko Seljak, Janez Stare, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: The main purpose behind the formation of leadership competency models must be the improvement of leadership. A competency model should serve as one of the tools for selecting the most suitable leaders, appraising their work, assessing training needs and preparing programmes of functional and formal education. The objective of this research is to assess the training needs of leaders in health care. A comparison of leadership competency models between different professional groups should serve as one of the tools with which to assess the training needs of various levels of leaders. Design/Methodology/Approach: A descriptive study using a survey design was conducted on 141 nurse leaders in Slovenia. Respondents indicated to what extent each of 95 different behaviours was characteristic of a person at their leadership level. Results: The most important competence dimensions (groups of behaviours) for leaders in health care are (1) at the first - top leadership level: strategic thinking, openness to change and responsibility; (2) for leaders at the second - middle leadership level: relations with co-workers, animation, resistance to stress; and (3) for leaders at the third leadership level: realisation skills, execution of procedures, communication. Training needs assessments were done for three leadership levels in nursing care. Conclusions: The greatest need for training of nurse leaders can be observed at the third leadership level. Special training programmes should be organised in the competency areas of realisation skills, execution of procedures, communication, education and ethics.

Work-life balance by area, actual situation and expectations
Tatjana Kozjek, Nina Tomaževič, Janez Stare, 2014, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: The question of work-life balance (WLB) is an area where increasing attention is being paid nowadays. States, organisations and employees all have responsibility and a role to play in WLB. This article presents the important areas of the WLB by key players in this field. Purpose:The purpose of the research was to compare and analyse the differences between the actual situation and the expectations of employers and employees with regard to specific areas of WLB in Slovenia. Methodology: Data was gathered using the Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) method. In the first part of the research project, employers across all sectors of the economy in Slovenia were questioned and in second part focussed on employees. In order to verify the areas in which employers and employees agree and those in which there are differences in perception, multidimensional scaling (MDS) was used. Results: The results of our research show that Slovenian organisations must pay more attention to flexible working time, the employeesʼ ability to take time off to care for family members, time and stress management workshops and paid leave for parents on a childʼs first day of school. Conclusion: A significant role in WLB is played by organisations. The incorporation of WLB strategies into the strategic and financial planning of an organisation can, in fact, have positive business, economic and social effects. Employees have to express their expectations and needs, which is the only way that employers can be made aware of their problems and help with WLB. State responsibility is to encourage all social partners to shape the living environment in which employeesʼ can achieve a good WLB with an emphasison gender equality.

Hotels and Halal-oriented products
Metod Šuligoj, Helena Maruško, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background and Purpose: Tourists from the Islamic world are significant stakeholders in the tourism market. The purpose of this paper is to identify the key aspects of halal tourism in connection with the hotel industry. Furthermore, we want to determine whether hotel managers are familiar with halal certification and on what basis they would opt for it. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research focuses on halal goods, services, and facilities, in general, and specifically in Slovenian hotels; concepts, contemporary trends, and the situation in Slovenia are presented. In response to the literature review, we applied the analysis of the factor loadings to define the important factors that influence the decision-making process; by applying PCA, we reduced the dependent variable to a single factor (although predictions were slightly different). Findings: The most important elements in the adoption of the certificate are the simplicity and efficiency of the procedure itself and the fact that the process does not require major financial investments. The element that significantly influences the managers% decision-making process is the possibility of adjusting to the standard of the certificate. Conclusion: The paper's main contribution is to deepen the perspective of the development of tourism in an area that remains a relatively undeveloped and unknown niche within the Slovenian tourism/hospitality industry but very promising in the global context.

Geographical marginality in Slovenia from the point of demographical indicators
Stanko Pelc, 2006, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: We start the paper with a terminological discussion about globalization and geographical marginality. Then we present an analysis that intends to find out whether the demographic data at municipal level can reveal us marginal regions (municipalities). We divided all municipalities according to their centrality into the group of predominantly central and predominantly peripheral. We calculated 5 demographic indicators and according to the average value defined municipalities that were essentially different (potentially marginal). The analysis shows that demographic indicators are not reliable and not an appropriate tool for the definition of marginal regions.

Sustainable rural development as an educational starting point in general grammar schools in Slovenia
Eva Konečnik Kotnik, 2009, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Education is a very important basis of sustainable development. That is why the selected learning objectives in the syllabus for geography in general grammar schools in Slovenia will be analysed within this contribution (general grammar school in Slovenia is a secondary school with a general-educational emphasis that does not provide vocational education, but prepares students aged 15 to 19 for further education at universities). We have selected learning objectives that relate to economic geography as a general geography topic, with special emphasis on learning objectives that refer to agriculture, rural areas and sustainable development. This contribution will present the results of generic comparative analysis of selected learning objectives in syllabi that were issued during the period since the emergence of Slovenia as an independent state (1992, 1998 and 2008). The results of the evaluation of quoted learning objectives from the viewpoint of social needs, educational guidelines and geographical science, as well as the results of the evaluation from the viewpoint of geography teachers in general grammar schools will also be examined. Educational problems associated with economic geography, sustainable development and rural areas will be highlighted accordingly.

The effect of factors of the socio-geographic structure of mountain farms on succession on these farms
Boštjan Kefo Kerbler, 2009, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The basic premise of this paper is that certain factors of the socio-geographic structure of mountain farms have an influence upon succession on these farms. The conducted survey confirmed this hypothesis. The most prominent influence that was observed included factors that reflect the tradition and the opinions of the householders, and especially that express the economic power of a farm. In the conclusion of this paper, we offer some solutions regarding the problem of succession in Slovene mountain farms. These solutions are not simple, due to the complex mixed rate of influence with respect to the various factors.

The Slovene countryside in transition from traditional to market-oriented agriculture
Vladimir Klemenčič, Matjaž Klemenčič, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the following paper the contemporary problems of the Slovene countryside will be discussed with special emphasis on the problems of image of the cultural landscape, which developed as a consequence of the rapid economic development of Slovenia. The relationship among different individual land categories is changing fast and the remnants of the economic structure of classic agrarian and modern industrial society are intertwined in contemporary Slovenia. We will deal especially with the consequences of European market-oriented agrarian policy, which is applied towards large differences between individual regions of Slovenia.
