Proceedings in the case of Benedik v. Slovenia : Bachelor thesis undergraduate study programme Criminal Juctice and Security, B.A.
Ana Jovanovska, 2024, diplomsko delo

Opis: The case of Benedik v. Slovenia is a perfect example of the complexity between the right to privacy and covert investigative measures carried out by law enforcement in the digital age. Thus, this thesis aims to precisely explain the legislation governing the right to privacy under both internal law and the European Convention on Human Rights, with a particular emphasis on covert investigative measures. By exploring and defining the legal frameworks that protect the privacy rights of individuals, we aim to clarify the balance between state surveillance powers and individuals' privacy rights. The study systematically shows the evolution and current state of the legal provisions regarding covert investigative measures in Slovenia. The main focus of this thesis is the legal proceedings in the case of Benedik v. Slovenia. It serves as a prism through which the complexities of privacy protection, specifically, electronic privacy are analyzed in the context of data disclosure and internet usage. The study examines the legal proceedings at all court instances, including Kranj District Court, Ljubljana Higher Court, Supreme Court, and Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia leading to a complaint that the applicant, Benedik, filed at the Strasbourg Court. The later ruling of the European Court of Human Rights addressed the interaction between domestic laws and international human rights norms in detail. An in-depth understanding of how covert investigative measures are integrated with the right to privacy is provided through an analysis of the arguments made, the legal reasoning used by the courts, and the verdicts issued. This thesis's comprehensive explanation offers valuable insights into the balance between state surveillance needs and the protection of individuals' right to privacy, highlighting the complexities of these issues in the modern digital age.

Dorota Klimecka-Tatar, Manuela Ingaldi, Matevž Obrecht, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Supply chain management is one of the most important elements of sustainable development. And due to the fact that the world market is driven by supply and demand, and the determinant of access to products is regional and international logistics, this paper focuses on the possibilities of implementing a green transport strategy in the context of sustainable development in logistic enterprises. This paper presents the results of the SWOT anal-ysis pointing out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats of green vehicles market for the transport enterprises. It was noticed that the situation on the green vehicles market for the transport enterprises is charac-terized by the advantage of strengths and these strengths should be used to maximize the use of green vehicles. It emphasized that subsidies for green vehicles would allow to invest in a modern fleet, new solutions (e.g. own charging stations) can have an impact on the greater energy efficiency (self-sufficiency), increase of social aware-ness would force enterprises to take appropriate actions in the field of environmental protection and develop-ment of publictransport based on green vehicles.

The technical efficiency of Tunisian ports : comparing data envelopment analysis and stochastic frontier analysis scores
Rabeb Kammoun, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Maritime transportation for Tunisia plays an important role in trade exchange with other countries. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to measure the efficiency scores of 7 seaports in Tunisia by applying the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) with Cobb-Douglas production function and Data envelopment analysis (DEA) with CCR and BCC models. The annual data collected cover the 2007-2017 period for each port. Thus, the sample size for the analysis comprises a total of 77 observations. The empirical result shows that the total average scores of operating efficiency scores were DEA-BCC (0.746)>SFACD (0.536)>DEA-CCR (0.334) from 2007 to 2017. Given these results, the port of Gabes can be considered as the best efficient port in the 3 models (DEA-BCC, DEACCR and SFA-CD).

Exploring the inherent heterogeneity of vaccine hesitancy : a study of a childhood-vaccine-hesitant population
Monika Lamot, Andrej Kirbiš, Mitja Vrdelja, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Vaccine hesitancy and its determinants have been previously widely researched. Vaccine hesitancy has been defined as a continuum of attitudes, ranging from accepting vaccines with doubts to rejecting them. The present study aims to explore the heterogeneity of a childhood-vaccine-hesitant group by using a person-oriented approach-latent profile analysis. A non-representative cross-sectional sample of vaccine-hesitant Slovenians (N = 421, Mage = 35.21, 82.9% women) was used to identify differences based on their reliance on personal research (“self” researching instead of relying on science), overconfidence in knowledge, endorsement of conspiracy theories, complementary and alternative medicine, and trust in the healthcare system. The analysis revealed three profiles of vaccine-hesitant individuals. The most hesitant profile-vaccine rejecting-expressed the greatest reliance on personal research, expressed the highest endorsement of conspiracy theories and complementary and alternative medicine, showed moderate overconfidence in their knowledge, and expressed the highest levels of distrust in the healthcare system. We further found differences in sociodemographic structure and that the identified profiles differed in their attitudes regarding MMR, HPV, and Seasonal Influenza vaccinations. The present study demonstrates the heterogeneity of the vaccine-hesitant community and offers insights into some of the traits, which are crucial for designing pro-vaccine campaigns.

Single-tray VLM vs dual-tray VLM : quantitative throughput comparison
Goran Đukić, Tihomir Opetuk, Brigita Gajšek, Tone Lerher, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this paper quantitative comparison of resulting throughputs for single-tray and dual-tray VLM devices is presented. Comparison is based on mathematical models for throughput approximating dual command times of VLM's crane, for selected parameters of VLM device (height and crane's velocity) and selected picking times per delivered tray. Analysis showed that throughput increase achieved by using dual-tray VLM's depends mostly on the average picking time relative to the expected dual command time of the VLM's crane. Highest improvements are possible for picking time equal to expected dual command time and amounts over 80%, however for extremely low or high picking times improvements are significantly reduced.

A computational study of artery curvature and endograft oversize influence on seal zone behavior in endovascular aortic repair
Žiga Donik, Willa Li, Blessing Nnate, Joseph A. Pugar, Nhung Nguyen, Ross Milner, Enrique Cerda, Luka Pocivavsek, Janez Kramberger, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a minimally invasive procedure involving the placement of an endograft inside the dissection or an aneurysm to direct blood flow and prevent rupture. A significant challenge in endovascular surgery is the geometrical mismatch between the endograft and the artery, which can lead to endoleak formation, a condition where blood leaks between the endograft and the vessel wall. This study uses computational modeling to investigate the effects of artery curvature and endograft oversizing, the selection of an endograft with a larger diameter than the artery, on endoleak creation. Finite element analysis is employed to simulate the deployment of endografts in arteries with varying curvature and diameter. Numerical simulations are conducted to assess the seal zone and to quantify the potential endoleak volume as a function of curvature and oversizing. A theoretical framework is developed to explain the mechanisms of endoleak formation along with proof-of-concept experiments. Two main mechanisms of endoleak creation are identified: local buckling due to diameter mismatch and global buckling due to centerline curvature mismatch. Local buckling, characterized by excess graft material buckling and wrinkle formation, increases with higher levels of oversizing, leading to a larger potential endoleak volume. Global buckling, where the endograft bends or deforms to conform to the centerline curvature of the artery, is observed to require a certain degree of oversizing to bridge the curvature mismatch. This study highlights the importance of considering both curvature and diameter mismatch in the design and clinical use of endografts. Understanding the mechanisms of endoleak formation can provide valuable insights for optimizing endograft design and surgical planning, leading to improved clinical outcomes in endovascular aortic procedures.

Risk assessment of COVID-19 epidemic resurgence in relation to SARS-CoV-2 variants and vaccination passes
Tyll Krüger, Krzysztof Gogolewski, Marcin Bodych, Anna Gambin, Giulia Giordano, Sarah Cuschieri, Thomas Czypionka, Matjaž Perc, Elena Petelos, Magdalena Rosińska, Ewa Szczurek, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The introduction of COVID-19 vaccination passes (VPs) by many countries coincided with the Delta variant fast becoming dominant across Europe. A thorough assessment of their impact on epidemic dynamics is still lacking. Here, we propose the VAP-SIRS model that considers possibly lower restrictions for the VP holders than for the rest of the population, imperfect vaccination effectiveness against infection, rates of (re-)vaccination and waning immunity, fraction of never-vaccinated, and the increased transmissibility of the Delta variant. Some predicted epidemic scenarios for realistic parameter values yield new COVID-19 infection waves within two years, and high daily case numbers in the endemic state, even without introducing VPs and granting more freedom to their holders. Still, suitable adaptive policies can avoid unfavorable outcomes. While VP holders could initially be allowed more freedom, the lack of full vaccine effectiveness and increased transmissibility will require accelerated (re-)vaccination, wide-spread immunity surveillance, and/or minimal long-term common restrictions.
