1. Internationalization at home among tourism students from Portugal and Slovenia : coil based on qualitative methodsAna Isabel Rodrigues, Marta Amaral, Nadja Mlakar, Pedro Cravo, João Rodrigues, Barbara Pavlakovič Farrell, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Traditional mobility programmesseem to be insufficient to fulfil the desired internationalization of higher education programmes. For this reason, other forms of internationalization need to be explored and addressed, such as ‘internationalization at home’ (IaH), a concept that has attracted the attention of a significant number of researchers over the years. Considering this, the aim of this paper is to present an example of such practices by focusing on the implementation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) in the context of Tourism degree programmes offered by two institutions: the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Portugal, and the University of Maribor, Slovenia. Furthermore, the paper intends to highlight the role played by qualitative methods in the design of this COIL programme, titled: “Integral Rural Tourism experiences: lessons from the Alqueva Lake, Portugal, and the Dolenjska region, Slovenia”. To achieve these goals, the paper focuses on: (i) the definition of internationalization at home and COIL, (ii) the topic and structure of this COIL programme, (iii) qualitative methods used in activity design, and on (iv) the evaluation of this initiative. This COIL proved to be a positive experience, as it helped to consolidate an international partnership and to increase the number of students involved in internationalization activities in both Tourism degrees involved. Furthermore, it encouraged students to develop a wide range of skills, such as digital, language and intercultural skills, which are of crucial importance, particularly in the case of Tourism degree programmes. Moreover, qualitative methods were found to be a suitable approach for the design of the tasks proposed. Finally, the limitations identified, related mostly to language difficulties and to the discrepancy in the perception of the proposed activities by students from the two institutions, hinted at the challengingnature of COIL to all involved –both students and teachers. 2. Platformization in Tourism : Typology of Business Models, Evolution of Market Concentration and European Regulation ResponsesMaja Turnšek, Vladimir Radivojević, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper serves to discuss the evolution of platform business models in tourism, the dynamics of market concentration, and regulatory interventions. We present the historical timeline of digitalization in tourism distribution models, starting from the Global Distribution Systems (GDS), and continuing with Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) and their market concentration in the duopoly of Expedia Group versus Booking Holdings Group. We continue to discuss the slow, yet uncertain, breaking of the global duopoly in the travel platforms market. On the one hand, the duopoly is challenged from the “bottom up”, where Airbnb is the most successful example, riding on the wave of popularity of the ideals of the “sharing economy” and the aftermaths of the 2008 global financial crisis. On the other hand, the duopoly is challenged from the “top down”—the most powerful digital players have started to extend their operations to tourism. The second section of the paper identifies three current areas of platformization in tourism operations—distribution, promotion and HRM. We analyze available industry and public statistics indicators in Europe for each of the three dimensions. Finally, we discuss the regulatory responses to the market concentration of travel distribution platforms. Although the challenge of market concentration is a global issue, and the threats are the same in many countries, we limit the discussion of regulation to the European context. In conclusion we discuss the possibilities of future development, and point to the threat of the further acceleration and interconnection of platformization and market concentration in the travel business. 3. Some comments on the legal regulation on misinformation and cyber attacks conducted through online platformsKitti Mezei, Boldizsár Szentgáli-Tóth, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: What are the tools to effectively manage the new threats to the free flow of opinions to protect this essential precondition for a pluralist social and political system? As a basis for action at the community level, how can we protect users who use internet platforms to inform themselves on issues of public interest from disinformation attacks through cyberspace? Effective action against cyber-attacks that adversely affect certain fundamental rights requires a combination of instruments, creating the technological, economic, human and legal conditions for meaningful counter-measures. In legal terms, the guarantees that platform providers must offer each user to prevent cyber attacks and illegal content should be laid down, and legal instruments shou ld be put in place to ensure they are always available. In addition, in the event of misusing any content shared on the platform or of personal data made available to the operator, clear responsibilities should be established, and the extent to which the responsibility for protection lies with the platform operator or the user should be clarified. In our study, we outline regulatory options to address these challenges. 4. Online gambling regulatory policy : an analysis from the perspective of the rights and duties of the gambler in PortugalJoão Ricardo Catarino, Carlos Henriques Machado, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Online games constitute an increasingly widespread activity that carries increased risks for players, especially minors. This study analyses the effectiveness of protecting online players' rights considering Portuguese legislation, which originates from the common European rules established for all Member States of the European Union. This study aims to characterise the Portuguese regulatory policy for games of chance, especially in the online gaming modality, its regulatory principles, its characteristics, and purposes, and to describe how it articulates with European recommendations. Based on this characterisation, this study analyses the effectiveness of compliance with the fundamental aspects of this regulatory policy by entities operating online gambling from the perspective of protecting the rights and duties of players, as enshrined. It concludes that some of these rights need to be sufficiently protected. The methodology includes analysing the websites of licensed entities and providing a questionnaire to young people who frequently play online. The study shows that the information on online gaming platforms reasonably complies with the current legal requirements and that players must be fully aware of all their rights. It also highlights that such rights are not fully protected in sensitive aspects. 5. A novel framework for unification of association rule miningRahul Sharma, Minakshi Kaushik, Sijo Arakkal Peious, Alexandre Bazin, Syed Attique Shah, Iztok Fister, Sadok Ben Yahia, Dirk Draheim, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Statistical reasoning was one of the earliest methods to draw insights from data. However, over the last three decades, association rule mining and online analytical processing have gained massive ground in practice and theory. Logically, both association rule mining and online analytical processing have some common objectives, but they have been introduced with their own set of mathematical formalizations and have developed their specific terminologies. Therefore, it is difficult to reuse results from one domain in another. Furthermore, it is not easy to unlock the potential of statistical results in their application scenarios. The target of this paper is to bridge the artificial gaps between association rule mining, online analytical processing and statistical reasoning. We first provide an elaboration of the semantic correspondences between their foundations, i.e., itemset apparatus, relational algebra and probability theory. Subsequently, we propose a novel framework for the unification of association rule mining, online analytical processing and statistical reasoning. Additionally, an instance of the proposed framework is developed by implementing a sample decision support tool. The tool is compared with a state-of-the-art decision support tool and evaluated by a series of experiments using two real data sets and one synthetic data set. The results of the tool validate the framework for the unified usage of association rule mining, online analytical processing, and statistical reasoning. The tool clarifies in how far the operations of association rule mining and online analytical processing can complement each other in understanding data, data visualization and decision making. 6. How minors perceive online violence? A Comparative Analysis of Slovenian and Bulgarian RealityNoemia Bessa Vilela, Denitsa Kozhuharova, Mohamed Taly, Žan Oplotnik, Jarosław Kostrubiec, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper represents both the qualitative and quantitative analyses of the LEAGUE project results, taking into account the sample collected in Slovenia and Bulgaria, on the perception of online violence against minors and online safety. The quantitative analysis is based on data collected via an online survey answered by 200 male participants (n = 200) aged 10 to 18 from Slovenia and Bulgaria. Most participants were between 15 and 18 years old (75%). A quarter of participants were aged 10 to 14. It became evident that children are not safe online, which is no mystery given that the majority of online spaces were not made for children nor with children in mind. Prepubescents, pubescents and adolescents all face considerable threats online, ranging from less severe yet damaging ones, such as cyberbullying and false impersonation, to much more serious threats that involve sexual abuse and other sexually motivated crimes. 9. Counterfeit anti-choking suction devices: Prevalence and risks on online marketplacesŠpela Metličar, Nino Fijačko, 2025, drugi znanstveni članki Opis: To the Editor,
Anti-choking suction devices represent an innovative first aid method designed to remove foreign body airway obstruction. Although they are not part of the current European Resuscitation Council guidelines,1 they are used by many healthcare professionals and laypersons.2, 3, 4 As with any medical devices, there appear to be many more affordable counterfeit and unbranded copies products on the market claiming to be anti-choking suction devices.5 In June 2024, the United Kingdom's Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a recall for counterfeit anti-choking suction devices sold through online marketplaces. It is stated that they are lacking certification marks (for example European conformity = CЄ), details of the manufacturer, unique identifiers and serial numbers on the device. There is also a possibility that they will not work and could worsen the situation by pushing obstruction further down the airway, due to their poor design and quality.6, 7 The aim of this review is to investigate the prevalence of counterfeit and unbranded anti-choking suction devices on the most widely used online marketplaces.
We conducted a review using the keyword “anti-choking suction device” on the online marketplace AliExpress (AliExpress, China). The search was conducted in November 2023 and January 2025. The shipping country was set to Slovenia. We investigated the number of products found, the number of products sold and their prices.
In November 2023, a total of 41 different anti-choking suction devices were identified, with an average price of €14.00 (SD ± 0.41) and over 3,324 units sold. By January 2025, the number of identified devices had increased to 59, with a higher average price of €16.27 (SD ± 26.66) and total sales exceeding 9,481 units. One of the counterfeit anti-choking suction devices was also purchased on AliExpress for €6.97. As shown in Fig. 1, the device lacked certification marks, manufacturer details, unique identifiers, and serial numbers.

An example of a counterfeit anti-choking suction device without certification marks.
The results highlighted a significant increase in the number of counterfeit anti-choking suction devices sold, despite being limited to one marketplace from China. Compared to certified anti-choking suction devices on the market, counterfeit versions are three to four times cheaper, especially considering that they are single-use devices. The question arises whether consumers knowingly purchase counterfeit anti-choking suction devices to save money or if they are unaware that these devices are uncertified. Experts, however, can recognize these counterfeits by their distinct appearance, absence of labels and identifiers, lack of a valve, and incomplete instruction manuals.6, 7 Beyond the questionable characteristics of anti-choking suction devices, concerns also arise regarding variations in their working principles and the suction they generate—both critical factors for effective functionality. 10. Classifying the information needs of survivors of domestic violence in online health communities using large language models : prediction model development and evaluation studyShaowei Guan, Vivian Hui, Gregor Štiglic, Rose Eva Constantino, Young Ji Lee, Arkers Kwan Ching Wong, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Domestic violence (DV) is a significant public health concern affecting the physical and mental well-being of
numerous women, imposing a substantial health care burden. However, women facing DV often encounter barriers to seeking
in-person help due to stigma, shame, and embarrassment. As a result, many survivors of DV turn to online health communities
as a safe and anonymous space to share their experiences and seek support. Understanding the information needs of survivors of
DV in online health communities through multiclass classification is crucial for providing timely and appropriate support.
Objective: The objective was to develop a fine-tuned large language model (LLM) that can provide fast and accurate predictions
of the information needs of survivors of DV from their online posts, enabling health care professionals to offer timely and
personalized assistance.
Methods: We collected 294 posts from Reddit subcommunities focused on DV shared by women aged ≥18 years who
self-identified as experiencing intimate partner violence. We identified 8 types of information needs: shelters/DV centers/agencies;
legal; childbearing; police; DV report procedure/documentation; safety planning; DV knowledge; and communication. Data
augmentation was applied using GPT-3.5 to expand our dataset to 2216 samples by generating 1922 additional posts that imitated
the existing data. We adopted a progressive training strategy to fine-tune GPT-3.5 for multiclass text classification using 2032
posts. We trained the model on 1 class at a time, monitoring performance closely. When suboptimal results were observed, we
generated additional samples of the misclassified ones to give them more attention. We reserved 184 posts for internal testing
and 74 for external validation. Model performance was evaluated using accuracy, recall, precision, and F1
-score, along with CIs
for each metric.
Results: Using 40 real posts and 144 artificial intelligence–generated posts as the test dataset, our model achieved an F1
-score
of 70.49% (95% CI 60.63%-80.35%) for real posts, outperforming the original GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, fine-tuned Llama 2-7B and
Llama 3-8B, and long short-term memory. On artificial intelligence–generated posts, our model attained an F1
-score of 84.58%
(95% CI 80.38%-88.78%), surpassing all baselines. When tested on an external validation dataset (n=74), the model achieved
an F1
-score of 59.67% (95% CI 51.86%-67.49%), outperforming other models. Statistical analysis revealed that our model significantly outperformed the others in F1
-score (P=.047 for real posts; P<.001 for external validation posts). Furthermore, our
model was faster, taking 19.108 seconds for predictions versus 1150 seconds for manual assessment.
Conclusions: Our fine-tuned LLM can accurately and efficiently extract and identify DV-related information needs through
multiclass classification from online posts. In addition, we used LLM-based data augmentation techniques to overcome the
limitations of a relatively small and imbalanced dataset. By generating timely and accurate predictions, we can empower health
care professionals to provide rapid and suitable assistance to survivors of DV. Ključne besede: domestic violence, online health communities, large language models, generative artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence Objavljeno v DKUM: 22.07.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 4
