32nd Bled eConference Humanizing Technology for a Sustainable Society : June 16 – 19, 2019, Bled, Slovenia, Conference Proceedings
2019, zbornik recenziranih znanstvenih prispevkov na mednarodni ali tuji konferenci

Opis: Bled eConference, organized by University of Maribor, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, has been shaping electronic interactions since 1988. Bled eConference is the oldest, most traditional and well renowned conference in the field with more than 30 years of tradition. The theme of this year’s 32nd conference is dedicated to “Humanizing Technology for a Sustainable Society”. In 2018, European Commission emphasized that in the future, competitiveness will be dependent on the ability to move towards sustainability, resource-efficiency and the ability to exploit the advantages of digital technologies. In the context of digital society, implementation of digital technologies to achieve higher efficiency and competitive advantage is insufficient. Society calls for different economy models; more responsible, righteous and less exploitative. In this year’s conference, we address various aspects of these challenges and provide directions and guidelines for organizations to meet and overcome these challenges on their way towards successful digital transformation. Themes covered in the papers of these proceedings are focused on: digital transformation; business model innovation; blockchain and social media; big data, data science, and decision support systems; e-health, digital wellness and wellbeing; new applications and organizational models; and novel approaches and cases in education in digital economy.
Ključne besede: digital transformation, digital technology, innovation, digitalization, sustainability

Use of animated songs in early teaching of English and German
Janja Stariha, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: This MA thesis deals with animated songs and their use in early foreign language teaching. In the theoretical part I have described child development, first and second language acquisition, multimedia, foreign language teaching and the use of songs in the classroom. As the literature on animated songs has not yet been developed, I have turned to theory on multimedia, music and art to formulate a set of criteria for easier choice of animated songs for use in class. In the empirical part I have chosen some high quality, didactically apropriate animated songs. Content, sound, music, text, design, animation, multimedia learning theories, art theory and didactics were taken into account. The final part of the paper shows the results of a questionnaire that was forwarded to Slovenian teachers who teach children aged 3–11 to see to what extent they know and use animated songs. Nowadays acces to songs is no longer a problem so it is important for teachers to know how to evaluate multimedia materials. There are both favorable opinions and cautions regarding technology use in childhood, so good judgement is needed. The choice and use of animated songs in the young learner classroom should be didactically justified.

Maritime issues in digital age
Sanja Bauk, 2018, znanstvena monografija

Opis: This book is a collection of research studies in the cross-section of maritime studies, information and communication technologies, and operations research. It contains a “layer” of topics that are more technical, and a “layer” of topics that are more managerial and business oriented. The fields of research are related to the author’s quite diverse interests in certain periods of time, and her success in applying for some research grants. The manuscript can serve as valuable material for educational and research purposes. This is especially important if we keep in mind that digitalization in maritime sector lags behind other business and industry sectors.

Climate changes in North Africa and the possibilities of adapting to it with ecosystem approaches
Ana Vovk, Manuela Štefane, 2016, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The article deals with geographical characteristics of North Africa with the focus on climate changes which are reflected in particular by the increase in the average temperatures and decrease of precipitation. These conditions have a direct impact on the reduction of agriculture and on the changes in land use. Further on, this has a direct impact on the way of life of people. The use of ecosystem technologies (imitation of nature) can be an easy and effective way to contain water in the region. Water also has a significant role in survival. Therefore, the use of ecoremediation (imitation of nature) in North Africa could mitigate climate changes.

Systemic outlook in technology-management trends of best technology/ICT companies
Marek Jemala, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the last time, new technology generations in many industries are presented every 2-3 years. The next technology revolution is expected to be different from the previous ones because technology is present in every aspect of our society. Technology processes have more and more an interdisciplinary character, therefore must be carried out systematically and if possible in a planned form. From integration of technology processes; to customer insights that drive product and brand extensions; to spotting emerging voids that competitors miss; technology-management trends are of tremendous importance for optimum business growth and profit. The main goal of this paper is to examine particular trends related to technology-management, as well as selected business indicators of the most successful technology/ICT companies in the world. The research methodology was based on the extensive study of innovative activities described in the annual and related reports of the most profitable technology businesses.

The influence of broadband regulation in EU on the development of the regulated technology
Andrej Mihevc, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The aim of the article is to answer the question if the level of intensity of `ex ante` regulation (also `regulation`) imposed by NRA (national regulatory Authority or regulators) influence on the development of incumbent DSL technology against other Access technologies. There are several approaches which support the basic idea of regulation, that Ćex anteĆ regulation promotes the competition. The approaches must be also based on the size of themarket. In the internet world there are different access technologies. OpenAccess is crucial for the development of competition. Regulators have to ensure, that also new entrants can reach end users through the facilities of the incumbent operator. Based on the approach of three criteria, European Commission defines two wholesale relevant access markets both based on DSL technology (`bitstream` access and unbundled local loop) susceptible to sector specific `ex ante` regulation. In the last stage also optical access isincluded on the relevant markets. Other technologies are still not equivalent to incumbent DSL technology according to the opinion of the commission. The intensity of regulation influences on the competition conditions. It influences on the level where and at which point of the investment ladder entrants will enter the market through wholesale inputs or through building its own infrastructure.

Teaching information system technology in partnership with IT companies
Viljan Mahnič, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: We describe an example of partnership between a university and some major IT companies - IBM and Microsoft - to teach a course on information systems technology. The course is taught in the fifth (final) year of the university undergraduate program when students have already mastered the basic theoretical knowledge of information system development. For this reason, the course content was restructured to pay more attention to practical experience and the learning opportunities available within the environment of professional industry. During the course, students get acquainted with IBM and Microsoft products and the tools that support the development of online information systems. Special attention is devoted to group project work, which is not just intended for the improvement of technical skills, but also for the aqusition of transferrable skills such as teamwork, management/leadership, planning and organizing, presentation and documentation, searching for information, etc. We describe our experience from teaching the course in the academic years 2005/06 and 2006/07. A description of the course content is given and the results of a survey among the students are presented. Students responded favourably to the new approach and found the course very useful and interesting.

Quantitative model for economic analyses of information security investment in an enterprise information system
Rok Bojanc, Borka Jerman-Blažič, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper presents a mathematical model for the optimal security-technology investment evaluation and decision-making processes based on the quantitative analysis of security risks and digital asset assessments in an enterprise. The model makes use of the quantitative analysis of different security measures that counteract individual risks by identifying the information system processes in an enterprise and the potential threats. The model comprises the target security levels for all identified business processes and the probability of a security accident together with the possible loss the enterprise may suffer. The selection of security technology is based on the efficiency of selected security measures. Economic metrics are applied for the efficiency assessment and comparative analysis of different protection technologies. Unlike the existing models for evaluation of the security investment, the proposed model allows direct comparison and quantitative assessment of different security measures. The model allows deep analyses and computations providing quantitative assessments of different options for investments, which translate into recommendations facilitating the selection of the best solution and the decision-making thereof. The model was tested using empirical examples with data from real business environment.

Strategy of cross curricular connection at technology education as a factor of modern school
Amand Papotnik, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This contribution deals with the topic of inter-subject planning and connecting in technique and technology and as a factor of modern school by emphasizing the strategies of training-educational work in technique and technology. In this context the most suitable project task is being regarded as that strategy of training-educational work, in which the development of divergent thinking, creative compatibilities, acquiring, deepening, practicing and using the knowledge in the field of technique, technology, work organization, economics, ergonomics, ecology, informatics and computer science, industrial design, etc. is concerned. In such a constructed strategy the inter-subject planning and connecting can be represented and the tendency to acquire better knowledge can also be realized, because of the opinion of the constructivists who think that knowledge in its final form can neither be "given " to somebody else, nor it can be "accepted" by somebody else, but it should be rebuilt by everybody with his/her own mental activity and exactly in technique and technology the objective and subjective conditions for such a style and didactic system of training - educational work are being created.
