Law and economics approaches to corporate governance
Nina Cankar, Simon Deakin, Marko Simoneti, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper provides a critical assessment of existing theoretical approaches to corporate governance within law and economics. Conventional economic approaches to law, new institutionalism and behavioural science, as well as the transplant literature, are discussed and their limits indicated. We suggest that by incorporating novel concepts, such as receptiveness, familiarity, adaptation, and internal process of development, the evolutionary dynamics of law and economics signifies a tendency towards corporate governance analysis that involves the study of institutional change and deals with questions that cannot be easily quantified. Such perspective invites a further look into the nature and evolution of legal norms and opens a way for a review of corporate governance arrangements from the perspective of unconventional socio-legal theories.

Book of abstracts of the 2nd International Scientific Conference Teaching Methods for Economics and Business Sciences, 7. May 2018, Maribor, Slovenia
2018, druge monografije in druga zaključena dela

Opis: Today’s global business environment is faced with complex and multidisciplinary issues. As business schools educate new generations of business people who will need to deal with these issues, the teachers at these institutions need to constantly innovate their teaching methods and approaches in order to pass relevant knowledge about business practices, processes and environments to their students. New, innovative approaches to teaching economics- and business-related subjects are thus essential to spark our students' curiosity and innovativeness and to develop their professional competences and skills so that our graduates, once employed, will have a positive impact on the economy as well as on the society. This book presents the abstracts of the 2nd International Scientific Conference »Teaching Methods for Economics and Business Sciences« held on 7 May 2018 at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business. I would like to express my thanks to all authors who submitted their work for this conference in our common response to the above challenges.

2017, zbornik recenziranih znanstvenih prispevkov na mednarodni ali tuji konferenci

Opis: Teaching is a challenging but also a rewarding profession. It is underpinned by one key question: how do we build a good teaching and learning environment so that our students can acquire professional competences which will enable them to be successful in today’s global business environment. These proceedings include the papers presented at the 1st International Scientific Conference »Teaching Methods for Economics and Business Sciences« held on 8 May 2017 at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business. The papers address students’ learning outcomes, the development and measurement of students’ professional and transversal competences and skills, creative teaching and learning techniques such as brainstorming and creative problem solving, active learning and collaborative learning, students’ self-assessment of their learning, experiential learning and lifelong learning, practical teaching methods such as business simulations, action-based learning and knowledge integration, innovations and sustainability of different teaching methods, non-formal learning and teaching activities for vocational competences development, ethical aspects of creating a good student environment, capacity building, students’ learning styles, teaching styles, students’ creativeness, and, last but not least, students’ academic success and their personal well being. These papers provide valuable insights into academic teaching practice and contribute to the answer to the above question.

Religious capital and religious rewards
Sergej Flere, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Religious life is studied by way suggested by the rational choice theory and the religious capital theory. The basic contentions of the theory on the nature of religious life having to do with an exchange upon a religious market, by firms offering compensators and rewards, and consumers, is considered. In the empirical analysis, it was validated that the independent (religious capital) and dependent (religious rewards of two types) were empirically separate constructs. Cross-sectional analysis of survey data indicated a very strong association between religious capital and institutional and ritual experience rewards within religious life, at a cross-cultural analysis, including Bosnian Muslims, Serbian Orthodox, Slovenian Catholics and US Protestants. The association was confirmed as robust at regression inspection with religious socialization. This extends further support for the empirical validity these novel theories of religious life and extensions of economic analysis into religious life.

Synergies between an observed port and a logistic company
Dejan Dragan, Bojan Rosi, Toni Avžner, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper addresses an analysis of potential synergies in collaboration between an observed Port in the Mediterranean Sea and Central-European logistic railway-services based company. Both companies have established a strategic partnership. The main motive was cooperation in rail transport, with a particular emphasis on potential synergies that would a rail traffic have brought to a port's business. For the purpose of synergies valuation under uncertain conditions, a Monte Carlo simulation-based framework with integrated discounted cash flow (DCF) model is applied. The possible values of future synergies are calculated via the DCF model by simultaneously changing values of different uncertain financial parameters at each repetition of a Monte Carlo scenario-playing mechanism. In this process, predicted forecasts of future synergetic throughputs are also used for various types of observed cargo. As it turned out, the generated synergies' values follow the approximate normal distribution. Based on statistical inference and analysis of probability intervals it was discovered that there might indeed exist certain important synergies in the collaboration between both companies. This fact has convinced us into a belief in the correctness of companies' decision to enter into such kind of strategic cooperation.
