1. The importance of labeling products with a GMO or non-GMO labelKatja Meško Kuralt, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The article is based on publicly available data, namely on European legislation and on publicly available instructions or recommendations/guidelines dealing with the field of GMO labelling in Slovenia. The importance of labelling GMO-free products and GMO-labelled products was analysed using a comparative research method. The analysis is based on a comparison of the basic terms with each other (i.e., GMO-labelled products, non-GMO-labelled products). It also is based on a review of the legal definition of the terms and on control over the use of the terms. The purpose of this paper is to define an important difference between the two concepts, which are hidden and (or) not defined for most consumers. 2. Stability analysis of the singular points and Hopf bifurcations of a tumor growth control modelDániel András Drexler, Ilona Nagy, Valery Romanovski, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: We carry out qualitative analysis of a fourth-order tumor growth control model using ordinary differential equations. We show that the system has one positive equilibrium point, and its stability is independent of the feedback gain. Using a Lyapunov function method, we prove that there exist realistic parameter values for which the systems admit limit cycle oscillations due to a supercritical Hopf bifurcation. The time evolution of the state variables is also represented. 3. Sustainable varroa mite (Varroa destructor) control in field conditionsAleš Gregorc, Ivo Planinc, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Experiments assessed the comparative efficacy of oxalic acid solution (OA) and combination of formic acid (FA) evaporation and trickling OA to control the honey bee mite, Varroa destructor, at two apiary locations. Queen caging, consecutive OA treatments of broodless colonies, or combined treatments using OA and FA in colonies with brood increased mite mortality (P < 0.05) in comparison to the pre-treatment period. FA application in colonies with brood in September and October resulted in an average mite mortality of 18% in the first apiary and subsequent FA applications in the same period in the second apiary killed, on average, 73% and 71% of mites; respectively. OA treatment of broodless colonies after queen caging at two apiaries resulted in 18% and 47% mite mortality. Caging the queens and OA treatments in broodless colonies or subsequently use consecutive OA or FA treatments ensure adequate mite reduction before wintering the colonies. Synergistic control methods of Varroa mites using OA and FA along with queen caging is discussed. 5. Attachment in close relationships and glycemic outcomes in children with type 1 diabetesSimona Klemenčič, Jasna Klara Lipovšek, Anja Turin, Klemen Dovč, Nataša Bratina, Yael Shmueli-Goetz, Katarina Trebušak Podkrajšek, Barbka Repič-Lampret, Barbara Jenko Bizjan, Sašo Karakatič, Tadej Battelino, Maja Drobnič Radobuljac, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background: Our aim was to determine whether child attachment to parents, parent attachment style, and morning cortisol levels were related to diabetes outcomes measured by average glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), HbA1c variability over 4 years and time in range (TIR) in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Research design and methods: 101 children with T1D and one of their parents were assessed at baseline for child attachment (Child Attachment Interview; CAI) and parent attachment (Relationship Structures Questionnaire; ECR-RS). Serum samples were collected for cortisol measurements before the interviews. HbA1c levels were measured during a 4-year follow-up period at regular 3-monthly visits, and data for TIR were exported from blood glucose measuring devices. Multivariate linear regression models were constructed to identify independent predictors of glycemic outcomes. Results: More girls than boys exhibited secure attachment to their mothers. The results of the regression models showed that securely attached girls (CAI) had higher average HbA1c than did insecurely attached girls (B = -0.64, p = 0.03). In boys, the more insecure the parent's attachment style, the worse the child's glycemic outcome: the higher the average Hb1Ac (B = 0.51, p = 0.005), the higher the HbA1c variability (B = 0.017, p = 0.011), and the lower the TIR (B = -8.543, p = 0.002). Conclusions: Attachment in close relationships is associated with glycemic outcomes in children with T1D, and we observed significant differences between sexes. A sex- and attachment-specific approach is recommended when treating children with less favorable glycemic outcomes. Special attention and tailored support should be offered to securely attached girls in transferring responsibility for diabetes care and at least to male children of insecurely attached parents to prevent suboptimal glycemic control. Further studies in larger samples and more daily cortisol measurements may help us better understand the links between stress response, attachment and T1D. 6. Current control of battery pack modules in parallel connection according to SoCMario Vražić, Antonio Persic, Peter Virtič, Tomislav Ivanis, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Electric vehicles, especially cars, have been in the spotlight for some time now. In the focus of environmentalists, engineers, users, media, etc. With the growth and advancement of the market for such vehicles, other electric vehicles are also focussing on. One of such vehicles is boats, particularly smaller boats up to 8–10 meters in length. Of course, the biggest problem here is charging. The general idea is to use battery modules that can be easily carried and enable hot swapping. This paper investigates scenarios and simulations of the control system for hot swapping of the battery module. Simulations of connection of two and three battery modules to parallel operation and current control are presented in this paper, as well as applied control rules. 7. Reduction of surface defects by optimization of casting speed using genetic programming : an industrial case studyMiha Kovačič, Uroš Župerl, Leo Gusel, Miran Brezočnik, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Štore Steel Ltd. produces more than 200 different types of steel with a continuous caster installed in 2016. Several defects, mostly related to thermomechanical behaviour in the mould, originate from the continuous casting process. The same casting speed of 1.6 m/min was used for all steel grades. In May 2023, a project was launched to adjust the casting speed according to the casting temperature. This adjustment included the steel grades with the highest number of surface defects and different carbon content: 16MnCrS5, C22, 30MnVS5, and 46MnVS5. For every 10 °C deviation from the prescribed casting temperature, the speed was changed by 0.02 m/min. During the 2-month period, the ratio of rolled bars with detected surface defects (inspected by an automatic control line) decreased for the mentioned steel grades. The decreases were from 11.27 % to 7.93 %, from 12.73 % to 4.11 %, from 16.28 % to 13.40 %, and from 25.52 % to 16.99 % for 16MnCrS5, C22, 30MnVS5, and 46MnVS5, respectively. Based on the collected chemical composition and casting parameters from these two months, models were obtained using linear regression and genetic programming. These models predict the ratio of rolled bars with detected surface defects and the length of detected surface defects. According to the modelling results, the ratio of rolled bars with detected surface defects and the length of detected surface defects could be minimally reduced by 14 % and 189 %, respectively, using casting speed adjustments. A similar result was achieved from July to November 2023 by adjusting the casting speed for the other 27 types of steel. The same was predicted with the already obtained models. Genetic programming outperformed linear regression. 8. LiDAR-Based Maintenance of a Safe Distance between a Human and a Robot ArmDavid Podgorelec, Suzana Uran, Andrej Nerat, Božidar Bratina, Sašo Pečnik, Marjan Dimec, Franc Žaberl, Borut Žalik, Riko Šafarič, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper focuses on a comprehensive study of penal policy in Slovenia in the last 70 years, providing an analysis of statistical data on crime, conviction, and prison populations. After a sharp political and penal repression in the first years after World War II, penal and prison policy began paving the way to a unique "welfare sanction system", grounded in ideas of prisoners' treatment. After democratic reforms in the early 1990s, the criminal legislation became harsher, but Slovenia managed to avoid the general punitive trends characterized by the era of penal state and culture of control. The authoritarian socialist regime at its final stage had supported the humanization of the penal system, and this trend continued in the first years of the democratic reforms in the 1990s, but it lost its momentum after 2000. In the following two decades, Slovenia experienced a continuous harshening of criminal law and sanctions on the one hand and an increasing prison population rate on the other. From 2014 onwards, however, there was a decrease in all segments of penal statistics. The findings of the study emphasize the exceptionalism of Slovenian penal policy, characterized by penal moderation, which is the product of the specific local historical, political, economic, and normative developments.
