Development and validation of business process reengineering (BPR) variables: a survey research in Slovenian companies

Abstract: Business Process Reengineering (BPR) literature is based primarily on case studies and there is a lack of rigorous wide-ranging empirical research covering all its aspects. This paper presents the results of a survey researchcarried out in 73 medium and large-sized Slovenian manufacturing companies. Seven crucial areas were identified based on a synthesis of BPR literature, which must be practised to achieve effective process reengineering: management commitment, education & training, team work, BPR project characteristics, employee cooperation, information technology support,and levers & results. Variables have been constructed within these areas, using Likert scales, and statistical validity and reliability analyses.These developed variables can be important both for understanding BPRand in terms of the descriptive statistics, also reported in this paper. What emerges is the crucial importance of process orientation, goal setting, and top management commitment. Furthermore, these variables can be helpful forfurther research aimed at investigating BPR and its linkages with other areas, such as strategy, performance measurement, etc.

An application of six sigma in manufacturing company

Abstract: This article presents an application of Six sigma into medium sized manufacturing company. Although there is a wider acceptance of Six-Sigma in many organizations today, there is still a lack of in-depth case study of Six sigma in the existing literature. Their production is typically individual for known customer. For the presented research the case study methodology was used. The annual analysis shows that in the company higher importance should be given to non conformity process management. The company decided to reduce waste and improve selected process using Six sigma methodology. Although all corrective and preventive actions have been defined and performed in details in accordance to the Six sigma methodology the final results of performed intervention will be known not earlier than at next annual analysis. Regarding the fact that there is a lack of case studies dealing with Six sigma especially in individual manufacturing this article could be of great importance also for the practitioners. This paper presents a real case study illustrating the effective use of Six sigma methodology to reduce waste in individual manufacturing.

Muscular-skeletal diseases require scientifically designed sewing workstations

Abstract: The paper describes the adjustment of the sewing workstation with respect to working postures and workers' perceptions based on the results of a survey research carried out in 32 sewing workstations in different garment production factories in Slovenia. Poor posture of the trunk, neck and upper extremities, and the monotonous repetitive movements result in a high prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints affecting back, neck and upper extremities among sewing machine operators. Several studies have confirmed that working postures are still a common problem in garment industry and ergonomically designed workstations can considerably reduce the above-mentioned problems. Therefore, the main purpose of the paper is to formulate all ergonomic recommendations for the modification of sewing machineworkstations.

Strains and stresses of workers caused by exposure to noise

Abstract: This paper examines basic aspects of determining strain due to noise on workers in an industrial environment. Technological development enables better working conditions which then demands changes in methods for measuring strain and stress loadings. A modified method is now presented since the existing method for determining strains caused by exposure to noise is proving insufficient. The objective of the modified method is to eliminate the shortcomings of the existing method by taking into account the complex effects of noise in specific working environments. The effects of exposure to noise will be assessed by using a new strain-assessment procedure which incorporates the effects of nature of noise, characteristics of noise, current standards on protection from noise, and the influence of noise on different jobs. This new noise-assessment approach uses new measurement techniques based on tonality and impulsive noise corrections. The modified method has been tested at various workplaces in the metal-working industry. A comparison of the results obtained by using both methods confirms the suitability of the modified method, thus providing a more complete approach to evaluating strain due to noise.

Inovativen koncept naslona za roke pri zadnjih avtomobilskih sedežih

Abstract: Nasloni za roke pri zadnjih avtomobilskih sedežih predstavljajo način sprostitve mišic in hrbtenice pri sedenju v avtomobilu. Uporabniku nudijo oporo ter možnost spreminjanja položajev med vožnjo. V diplomski nalogi smo opisali ergonomske in biomehanske dejavnike, ki so ključnega pomena za optimalno oblikovanje naslona za roke. S pomočjo ankete smo raziskali mnenja uporabnikov naslonov, z metodo opazovanja smo ugotovili aktivnost določenih mišic pri opravljanju različnih del med vožnjo na zadnjih sedežih, preučili pa smo tudi že obstoječe rešitve naslonov. Rezultat diplomske naloge je inovativna zasnova naslona za roke, ki je ergonomsko in biomehansko dovršen ter tako prijazen širokemu spektru uporabnikov.

Oblikovanje delovnega mesta v prodajalni oblačil z upoštevanjem antropometrije

Abstract: Dandanes delo sodi med temeljne dejavnike človeškega življenja. Delo je prvi osnovni pogoj družbenega razvoja. V delovnem procesu, ko človek oblikuje delovno mesto je njegov namen zmanjšati napore, izgube časa ter izboljšati kakovost. Z ergonomskega vidika se mora ugotoviti kakšnim obremenitvam je izpostavljen človek ter kako izboljšati njegove posebne sposobnosti. Cilj raziskovanja dela je, ali je delovno mesto učinkovito ter, ali so možnosti spremembe na delovnem mestu. Z opazovalno metodo OWAS smo analizirali telesne položaje ter držo telesa. Ugotovili smo, da je bila preobremenjena telesna drža delavke ter upognjenost glave, ampak ukrepi niso potrebni. Če hočemo, da se človek počuti dobro med opravljanjem dela, moramo med drugim preprečiti obremenitve na posamezne dele njegovega telesa, kar dosežemo tako, da izboljšamo pomanjkljivosti pri samem oblikovanju delovnega mesta. Potrebno je izvajati posamezne ukrepe kot so počitek med delom, preprečitev obremenitev in stresa na delovnem mestu, saj tako zagotovimo dobro počutje človeka na delovnem mestu.
