Innovative approaches to wear reduction in horizontal powder screw conveyors : a design of experiments-guided numerical study

Abstract: Numerical simulations play a vital role in the modern engineering industry, especially when faced with interconnected challenges such as particle interactions and the structural integrity of conveyor systems. This article focuses on the handling of materials and emphasizes the importance of using parametric numerical analysis to improve efficiency, reduce wear, and enhance the structural integrity of horizontal screw conveyors. Through the utilization of the Design of Experiments, we systematically investigated critical parameters such as screw pitch, clearance, wear, rotational velocity, and additional structural factors. This examination was carried out within a well-defined parametric framework, utilizing a combination of software tools provided by the Ansys suite and Minitab. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the Design of Experiments analysis in achieving improved performance and provide valuable insights for engineers and researchers involved in the design of conveyor systems. Furthermore, this comprehensive approach clarifies how conveyor systems respond to changes in parameters and highlights the complex interaction between transported particles and the conveyor system. We present a detailed analysis that clarifies the complex relationships and dependencies among different parameters, providing engineers and researchers with valuable insights. By understanding the interactions of these factors, the methodology provides not only results but also a strategic framework for advancing conveyor system design and engineering practices.

Cross-Hole GPR for Soil Moisture Estimation Using Deep Learning

Abstract: This paper presents the design of a high-voltage pulse-based radar and a supervised data processing method for soil moisture estimation. The goal of this research was to design a pulse-based radar to detect changes in soil moisture using a cross-hole approach. The pulse-based radar with three transmitting antennas was placed into a 12 m deep hole, and a receiver with three receive antennas was placed into a different hole separated by 100 m from the transmitter. The pulse generator was based on a Marx generator with an LC filter, and for the receiver, the high-frequency data acquisition card was used, which can acquire signals using 3 Gigabytes per second. Used borehole antennas were designed to operate in the wide frequency band to ensure signal propagation through the soil. A deep regression convolutional network is proposed in this paper to estimate volumetric soil moisture using time-sampled signals. A regression convolutional network is extended to three dimensions to model changes in wave propagation between the transmitted and received signals. The training dataset was acquired during the period of 73 days of acquisition between two boreholes separated by 100 m. The soil moisture measurements were acquired at three points 25 m apart to provide ground truth data. Additionally, water was poured into several specially prepared boreholes between transmitter and receiver antennas to acquire additional dataset for training, validation, and testing of convolutional neural networks. Experimental results showed that the proposed system is able to detect changes in the volumetric soil moisture using Tx and Rx antennas.

Topološka optimizacija rotorske lamele sinhronskega motorja s potopljenimi trajnimi magneti : magistrsko delo

Abstract: Razvoj sodobnih pogonskih elektromotorjev na področju transporta predstavlja nove izzive. Potreba po doseganju visokih vrtljajev, navora in moči ob zagotovljenem dolgotrajnem obratovanju je prinesla k uporabi sinhronskih motorjev s potopljenimi trajnimi magneti. Magistrsko delo opisuje postopek topološke optimizacije rotorske lamele za omenjeni tip elektromotorjev, ki je potekal v programu CAESS ProTOp. Najbolj obremenjena območja rotorske lamele so mostički, ki morajo zadržati magnete pri vrtenju in zagotoviti mehansko stabilnost rotorja. Hkrati morajo biti dovolj tanki, da motor dosega potrebne elektromagnetne karakteristike. S topološko optimizacijo je bila pridobljena optimalna oblika mostičkov in manjša masa rotorske lamele. Rezultati topološke optimizacije so bili s pomočjo numeričnih simulacij v programu ANSYS primerjani z začetno, ročno optimizirano obliko rotorske lamele. Ugotovitve kažejo, da se s tanjšimi mostički optimalne oblike zmanjšajo napetosti in ekvivalentne plastične deformacije v kritičnih območjih. Uvedba sodobnih postopkov optimizacije v fazi razvoja lahko v prihodnosti zamenja proces ročnega iskanja optimalnih oblik in omogoči nov napredek na področju pogonskih elektromotorjev.

Vpliv povišanih vrednosti PM10 delcev v zraku na obravnavo pacientov v urgentnem centru

Abstract: Uvod: Kakovost zraka je ključnega pomena za zdravje ljudi povsod po svetu. Obremenitve onesnaženosti zraka vplivajo tudi na poslabšanje zdravstvenega stanja predvsem v okoljih, kjer je vpliv industrializacije vse višji in se vozni park vedno veča. Namen zaključnega dela je raziskati povezave med onesnaženostjo zraka z delci PM10 in povečanim obiskom bolnikov v enem izmed urgentnih centrov v Sloveniji ter s tem ugotoviti vpliv na zdravje posameznikov. Metode: Pri pripravi zaključnega dela smo uporabili kvantitativno metodologijo. Izvedli smo retrospektivno raziskavo, kjer smo pri teoretičnem delu uporabili opisno metodo dela. Raziskava je potekala v enem izmed urgentnih centrov v Sloveniji, kjer smo zbrali podatke tudi o vrednostih delcev PM10 iz štirih okoliških merilnih mest. Pridobljene podatke smo analizirali in obdelali z uporabo računalniškega programa IBM SPSS 22.0. Rezultati: Med pregledom in analizo podatkov nismo v nobeni izmed postavljenih hipotez opazili statistično pomembne razlike, ki bi dokazovala vpliv delcev PM10 na zdravje ljudi. Opažamo trend ob povišanih delcih PM10 povprečno več bolnikov na dan in več hospitalizacij, več smrti in več bolnikov z astmo. Ugotovili smo, da je bila povprečna vrednost delcev PM10 v letu 2020 in 2021 19,03 µg/m3. Razprava in zaključek: Signifikantnih razlik nismo ugotavljali. Ugotavljali nismo tudi večje obremenjenosti in izpostavljenosti prašnim delcem. Na opazovanem območju in času ugotavljamo 58 dni povišanih vrednosti PM10 z vključenim dvodnevnim zamikom. Minimalna dosežena vrednost PM10 je znašala 3,6 µg/m3, maksimalna pa 140,8 µg/m3.
