Numerična analiza tokovnih razmer v kondenzacijskem delu prenosnika toplote

Opis: V zmogljivih baterijskih električnih vozilih se kompaktni ploščni prenosniki toplote uporabljajo za zagotavljanje odvoda toplote iz kompresorskega parnega hladilnega kroga. V magistrskem delu smo obravnavali kondenzacijo hladiva v takšnem prenosniku toplote. Pripravili smo geometrijo prenosnika toplote in jo zamrežili s strukturirano mrežo. Izvedli smo analizo vpliva debeline elementa pri steni in analizo kalibracijskega parametra kondenzacijskega modela. Na podlagi rezultatov smo izbrali primerne kalibracijske vrednosti in izvedli variacijo masnega pretoka. Rezultate variacije masnega pretoka smo primerjali z meritvami iz referenčnega članka in ugotovili, da lahko, z uporabo navedenega modela, razmeroma natančno napovemo prestop toplote in suhost pare za izbrani primer. Prav tako smo s simulacijo potrdili trende, ki se pojavljajo pri spremembah masnega pretoka in suhosti pare.

Electrodermal activity and heart rate variability for detection of peripheral abnormalities in type 2diabetes : a review

Opis: Modern medicine exhibits an upward trend towards non-invasive methods for early detection of disease and long-term monitoring of patients’ health. Diabetes mellitus and its complications are a promising area for implementation of new medical diagnostic devices. One of the most serious complications of diabetes is diabetic foot ulcer. The main causes responsible for diabetic foot ulcer are ischemia caused by peripheral artery disease and diabetic neuropathy caused by polyol pathway-induced oxidative stress. Autonomic neuropathy impairs function of sweat glands, which can be measured by electrodermal activity. On the other hand, autonomic neuropathy leads to changes in heart rate variability, which is used to assess autonomic regulation of the sinoatrial node. Both methods are enough sensitive to detect pathological changes caused by autonomic neuropathy and are promising screening methods for early diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy, which could prevent the onset of diabetic ulcer.

Thermal treatment of raw and pre-treated wastes from the paper industry

Opis: In this study, the thermal treatment of two types of waste from the paper industry was investigated, paper mill sludge and sewage sludge from biological wastewater treatment plants. Hydrothermal carbonisation (HTC) and torrefaction were investigated as sustainable alternatives for solid biofuel production. Untreated samples and samples chemically pre-treated with alcoholic vinegar were subjected to torrefaction at 350 °C in N2 atmosphere, and the exhaust gases were analysed. HTC was performed at 250 °C with a residence time of 4 h. The feedstocks and the biochars produced were characterised by different analytical methods, and the effects of pre-treatment on fuel properties were studied. Both processes, HTC and torrefaction, showed inspiring results in the production of biofuels from paper industry wastes under the tested experimental conditions. A positive influence of pre-treatment on fuel properties (higher heating value, carbon content) of the obtained char was observed, and changes in the gas phase during torrefaction were observed.

Dynamics of capillary lactate levels in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

Opis: Background and Objectives: An effective strategy for cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be based on tissue perfusion. Our primary aim was to determine the association between capillary lactate values and initial rhythm as well as the probability of the return of spontaneous circulation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. Materials and Methods: This prospective observational cohort study included all patients with non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, older than 18 years, resuscitated by a prehospital emergency medical team between April 2020 and June 2021. Capillary lactate samples were collected at the time of arrival and every 10 min after the first measurement until the time of the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) or, if ROSC was not achieved, at the time of declaring death on the scene. Results: In total, 83 patients were enrolled in the study. ROSC was achieved in 28 patients (33.7%), 21 were admitted to hospital (26.3%), and 6 (7.23%) of them were discharged from hospital. At discharge, all patients had Cerebral Performance Category Scale 1 or 2. Initial capillary lactate values were significantly higher in patients with a non-shockable rhythm compared to the group with a shockable rhythm (9.19 ± 4.6 versus 6.43 ± 3.81; p = 0.037). A significant difference also persisted in a second value taken 10 min after the initial value (10.03 ± 5,19 versus 5.18 ± 3.47; p = 0.019). Capillary lactate values were higher in the ROSC group and non-ROSC group at the time of restored circulation (11.10 ± 6.59 and 6.77 ± 4.23, respectively; p = 0.047). Conclusions: Capillary lactate values are significantly higher in patients with a non-shockable first rhythm in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). There is also a significantly different rise in capillary lactate levels in patients with ROSC.

Bioactive functional nanolayers of chitosan-lysine surfactant with single- and mixed-protein-repellent and antibiofilm properties for medical implants

Opis: Medical implant-associated infections resulting from biofilm formation triggered by unspecific protein adsorption arethe prevailing cause of implant failure. However, implant surfaces rendered with multifunctional bioactive nanocoatings offer apromising alternative to prevent the initial attachment of bacteria and effectively interrupt biofilm formation. The need to researchand develop novel and stable bioactive nanocoatings for medical implants and a comprehensive understanding of their properties incontact with the complex biological environment are crucial. In this study, we developed an aqueous stable and crosslinker-freepolyelectrolyte−surfactant complex (PESC) composed of a renewable cationic polysaccharide, chitosan, a lysine-based anionicsurfactant (77KS), and an amphoteric antibiotic, amoxicillin, which is widely used to treat a number of infections caused by bacteria.We successfully introduced the PESC as bioactive functional nanolayers on the“model”and“real”polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)surfaces under dynamic and ambient conditions. Besides their high stability and improved wettability, these uniformly depositednanolayers (thickness: 44−61 nm) with mixed charges exhibited strong repulsion toward three model blood proteins (serumalbumin,fibrinogen, andγ-globulin) and their competitive interactions in the mixture in real-time, as demonstrated using a quartzcrystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D). The functional nanolayers with a maximum negative zeta potential (ζ:−19 to−30mV at pH 7.4), water content (1628−1810 ng cm−2), and hydration (low viscosity and elastic shear modulus) correlated with themass, conformation, and interaction nature of proteins. In vitro antimicrobial activity testing under dynamic conditions showed thatthe charged nanolayers actively inhibited the growth of both Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcusaureus) bacteria compared to unmodified PDMS. Given the ease of fabrication of multifunctional and charged biobased coatingswith simultaneous protein-repellent and antimicrobial activities, the limitations of individual approaches could be overcome leadingto a better and advanced design of various medical devices (e.g., catheters, prosthetics, and stents).

Clinical pharmacy services in mental health in Europe : a commentary paper of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy Special Interest Group on Mental Health

Opis: A large proportion of the world's disease burden is attributable to mental illnesses. Although effective interventions are available, many patients still have limited access to evidence-based treatments. Aside from access, treatment gaps, including inappropriate medication selection and monitoring, are also routinely recognised. Mental health clinical pharmacists can help address these gaps and enable patients to receive optimised pharmaceutical care, particularly appropriate medication selection and monitoring. The European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) Special Interest Group on Mental Health was established to improve standardised service provision in mental health settings across Europe. The Special Interest Group identified significant barriers (predominantly associated with reimbursement and position within the multidisciplinary team) to effective pharmaceutical care amongst those with mental illnesses. This commentary presents recommendations to address these gaps through improved mental health clinical pharmacy service provision.

A computational model for analysing the dry rolling/sliding wear behaviour of polymer gears made of POM

Opis: This study presents a computational model to determine the wear behaviour of polymer gears. Using PrePoMax finite element numerical calculation software, a proposed computational model was built to predict dry rolling/sliding wear behaviour based on Archard’s wear model. This allows the calculation of the wear depth in each loading cycle with constant mesh updating using the finite element method. The developed computational model has been evaluated on a spur gear pair, where the pinion made of POM was meshed with a support gear made of steel. The computational results obtained were compared with the analytical results according to the VDI 2736 guidelines. Based on this comparison, it was concluded that the proposed computational model could be used to simulate the wear behaviour of contacting mechanical elements like gears, bearings, etc. The main advantage of the model, if compared to the standardised procedure according to the VDI 2736 guidelines, is the geometry updating after a chosen number of loading cycles, which enables a more accurate prediction of wear behaviour under rolling/sliding loading conditions.

Sinergije in izzivi sodelovanja med družinskimi podjetji in startupi na praktičnem primeru

Opis: Diplomska naloga je namenjena pojasnilom, kako si lahko družinska in start-up podjetja medsebojno koristijo s sodelovanjem, da bi povečali svoje inovativne sposobnosti. Družinska podjetja igrajo ključno vlogo v današnjem gopodarstvu. Vendar pa je v trenutnem dinamičnem gospodarskem okolju družinsko podjetje pred izzivom, kako ohraniti svoj konkurenčni položaj. Na drugi strani imajo start-up podjetja pogosto obetavne inovativne ideje z velikim tržnim potencialom. Zato se od obeh strani pričakuje, da si med seboj pomagata. Najprej smo opredelili družinska podjetja in njihov pomen za gospodarstvo, kjer smo predstavili značilnosti družinskega podjetja in prednosti ter slabosti družinskih podjetij. Opredelili smo tudi vpliv družinskih podjetij na gospodarstvo v Sloveniji. V nadaljevanju smo proučili start-up podjetja in njihov pomen za gospodarstvo. Ob tem smo predstavili značilnosti start-up podjetij in opredelili njihove prednosti ter slabosti. Opredelili smo tudi vpliv start-upov na gospodarstvo v Sloveniji. Temo smo si izbrali, saj smo želeli ugotoviti, ali si družinska in start-up podjetja med seboj res lahko pomagajo in koristijo drug drugemu

Priložnosti sodelovanja družinskih podjetij in startup podjetij na praktičnem primeru

Opis: Družinska podjetja imajo ključno vlogo v evropskem gospodarstvu, vendar se soočajo z izzivi v hitro spreminjajočem se okolju. Globalizacija in digitalizacija postavljata družinska podjetja pred številne izzive, saj se morajo spretno odzivati na vse večjo kompleksnost in hiter razvoj trgov. Sodelovanje s startup podjetji se vse bolj prepoznava kot potencialna rešitev za soočanje s temi izzivi. Sodelovanje z novoustanovljenimi podjetji je za korporacije zelo obetavno, ostaja pa nejasno, kako izvedljiva je odločitev za ta pristop za družinska podjetja zaradi njihovih posebnih lastnosti, kot so nenaklonjenost tveganju, nepripravljenost za vlaganje v inovacijske namene, dolgoročna usmeritev in nepripravljenost za sodelovanje. Kljub različnim lastnostim družinskih podjetij pa družinska podjetja vedno bolj prepoznavajo pomembnost sodelovanja z novimi podjetji za inovacije. Prihodnost družinskih podjetij je mogoče okrepiti s sodelovanjem s startup podjetji, kar obeta inovativne rešitve za obe strani. To potrjuje tudi analiza praktičnega primera, ki je pokazala, da sodelovanje prinaša koristi tako družinskim podjetjem kot startupom. Na podlagi teh ugotovitev predlagamo razširitev takšnih partnerstev, ki bi lahko povečala raznolikost idej in konkurenčnosti ter spodbudila dinamičen razvoj v panogah, kjer podjetja delujejo, s čimer bi izboljšali storitve za uporabnike. Diplomsko delo je sestavljeno iz dveh delov, in sicer iz teoretičnega in praktičnega dela. V prvem oziroma teoretičnem delu smo predstavili temeljne pojme sodelovanja podjetij, kot so oblike sodelovanja, inovacije kot rezultat sodelovanja, dejavnike uspeha za sodelovanje in tveganja, ki se lahko pojavijo pri sodelovanju; podrobneje je predstavljen vpliv sodelovanja na družinska in startup podjetja. V drugem oziroma praktičnem delu pa smo na osnovi zapisane teorije predstavili praktičen primer vplivanja oziroma priložnosti sodelovanja družinskega podjetja s startup podjetji.
