Experimental investigation of the quality and productivity of software factories based development

Abstract: Software organizations are always looking for approaches that help improve the quality and productivity of developed software products. Quality software is easy to maintain and reduces the cost of software development. The Software Factories (SF) approach is one of the approaches to provide such benefits. In this paper, the quality and productivity benefits of the SF approach were examined and evaluated with an experiment involving two treatments - the traditional and the SF approach. For the purposes of this experiment, the Goal – Question – Metric (GQM) approach was used. Participants were grouped into thirty two teams. There were sixteen projects available. The results were evaluated and presented through quality and productivity criteria, which were used for the experimental study. The results showed that the Software Factories approach was significantly better than the traditional approach.

Business process model and notation

Abstract: With business process modelling, companies and organizations can gain explicit control over their processes. Currently, there are many notations in the area of business process modelling, where Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is denoted as the de facto standard. Aims: The aim of this research is to provide the state-of-the-art results addressing the acceptance of BPMN, while also examining the purposes of its usage. Furthermore, the advantages, disadvantages and other interests related to BPMN were also investigated. Method: To achieve these objectives, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and a semantic examination of articles% citations was conducted. Results: After completing SLR, out of a total of 852 articles, 31 were deemed relevant. The majority of the articles analyzed the notation and compared it with other modelling techniques. The remainder evaluated general aspects of the notation, e.g. history and versions of the standard, usage of the notation or tools. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that there are empirical insights about the level of BPMN acceptance. They suggest that BPMN is still widely perceived as the de facto standard in the process modelling domain and its usage is ever-increasing. However, many studies report that only a limited set of elements are commonly used and to this end, several extensions were proposed. The main purpose of BPMN remains the description of business processes.

How do emotions impact mobile services acceptance?

Abstract: Mobile data services have been rapidly developing and expanding in the recent years; therefore many studies focus on researching their acceptance and use in general or by observing different viewpoints. One of these is emotions, which influence our beliefs and attitudes that impact our decisions and actions. The objective of our research was therefore to explore the field of mobile data services acceptance in regard to emotional factors. We performed a systematic literature review of emotional concepts and their relationships, provided by 43 primary studies. Consequently, our study includes an aggregation of emotional factors obtained from related and reviewed literature, with their definitions and the extent of their usage. Furthermore, it analyses the proportion of emotional factors against all acceptance-related factors as well as the extent of their use through time. Our study tries to guide future work by aggregating the relations that include at least one emotional factor and by providing the rate of their significance. Finally, the study tends to determine the viability of the emotional factors by observing their direct influences on users’ intention and proposes a generic theoretical model for supporting future mobile services research.

SPREJETOST SPLETNIH UPORABNIŠKIH VMESNIKOV Z INTEGRIRANO PODPORNO TEHNOLOGIJO

Abstract: Doktorska disertacija naslavlja problematiko spletne dostopnosti, ki dobiva vse večjo veljavo ob predpostavki vsesplošne dostopnosti. Spletna dostopnost predstavlja kritično točko predvsem za osebe s posebnimi potrebami. S tem namenom se v sklopu doktorske disertacije osredotočimo na povečanje spletne dostopnosti s pomočjo podporne tehnologije, integrirane v spletne uporabniške vmesnike. V ospredje postavljamo disciplino uporabniškega inženiringa, natančneje preverjanja uporabnosti v kombinaciji s specifično skupino oseb – oseb brez in oseb z disleksijo. Cilj doktorske disertacije je pridobiti oceno uporabnosti spletnih uporabniških vmesnikov z integrirano podporno tehnologijo. Na osnovi rezultatov sistematičnega pregleda literature je bilo ugotovljeno, da obstajajo modeli in metode za preverjanje uporabnostni, vendar ne obstaja model ocenjevanja, ki bi omogočal pridobivanje ocene primernosti spletnih uporabniških vmesnikov za ciljno skupino uporabnikov (osebe z disleksijo). S tem namenom smo na osnovi rezultatov raziskav s področja (1) specifičnih značilnosti oseb z disleksijo, (2) težav, ki jih imajo pri spletni dostopnosti in (3) smernic za povečanje spletne dostopnosti pri osebah z disleksijo, izdelali model ocenjevanja za merjenje primernosti, ki predstavlja dopolnitev k obstoječemu modelu preverjanja uporabnosti. Izveden eksperiment je omogočil empirično pridobitev komparativnih rezultatov končnih uporabnikov o uporabnosti spletnih uporabniških vmesnikov brez aktivirane in z aktivirano podporno tehnologijo. Rezultati so pokazali, da podporna tehnologija ne vpliva na preverjanje splošnih ciljev uporabnosti (torej na uspešnost, učinkovitost in splošno zadovoljstvo) pri nobeni skupini uporabnikov. Rezultati specifičnih ciljev, pridobljeni z novo nastalim modelom ocenjevanja, kažejo, da so osebe brez disleksije bolj naklonjene uporabi spletnih uporabniških vmesnikov brez aktivirane podporne tehnologije, medtem ko uporaba podporne tehnologije pri osebah z disleksijo omogoči boljšo vsebinsko predstavitev informacij. Znanje pridobljeno tekom priprave doktorske disertacije je možno implicirati v realno okolje. Z namenom nadaljnjega aplikativnega raziskovanja je na osnovi sinteze znanja in izdelave modela CAT (angl. Comprehensive Assistive Technology model) podana idejna zasnova za razširitev komponente podporne tehnologije za osebe z disleksijo, katera je nujno potrebna za povečanje spletne dostopnosti. Na osnovi ugotovitev o primernosti metode preverjanja uporabnosti je možno podati priporočila za prilagoditev metode, kadar so v preverjanje vključene osebe z disleksijo.

MODELIRANJE IN IZVAJANJE POSLOVNIH PROCESOV S SIGNAVIO WORKFLOW

Abstract: Diplomsko delo je napisano s ciljem seznanitve z orodjem za modeliranje in izvajanje poslovnih procesov z notacijo BPMN. V njej so opisane notacija BPMN, razlike med različnimi verzijami BPMN in prednosti in slabosti notacije. Preizkušeno je modeliranje poslovnih procesov z orodjem Signavio Workflow in izvajanje modeliranega procesa s tem orodjem. Opisane so tudi prednosti in slabosti te informacijske rešitve, osebne izkušnje modeliranja ter izvajanje procesa s Signavio Workflow.

SPLETNA REŠITEV ZA PREVAJANJE PROCESNIH NOTACIJ

Abstract: Diplomska naloga predstavlja zasnovo in implementacijo rešitve, ki bi naj uporabniku pomagala pri prevajanju izbranih procesnih notacij v standardizirano notacijo BPMN. Raziskali ter predstavili smo vizualne notacije YAWL, IDEF, UML, EPC ter BPMN in njihove najbolj pogoste vizualne konstrukte. V sklopu teoretičnega dela pa smo tudi raziskali in predstavili preslikave med posameznimi notacijami. Za nadaljnji razvoj aplikacije smo raziskali možne preslikave, ki se lahko pojavijo, ko hočemo nek vizualni konstrukt iz izbranih notacij preslikati v nek BPMN vizualni konstrukt. Tako smo na koncu na podlagi teorije ter raziskave dobili spletno aplikacijo, ki je rezultat diplomskega dela.
