Factors associated with gastrointestinal dysmotility in critically ill patients

Abstract: Critical illness may disrupt nutritional, protective, immune, and endocrine functions of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to a state of gastrointestinal dysmotility. We aimed to identify factors associated with the occurrence of gastrointestinal dysmotility in critically ill patients. A cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted, using patient files as a source of data. The study included 185 critically ill patients treated in the intensive care unit of the University Clinical Center, Kragujevac, Serbia, from January 1, 2016, to January 1, 2022. Significant risk factors associated with some form of gastrointestinal dysmotility were acute kidney injury (with paralytic ileus, nausea, vomiting, and constipation), recent abdominal surgery (with ileus, nausea, vomiting, and constipation), mechanical ventilation (with ileus, and nausea), age (with ileus and constipation), and use of certain medication such as opioids (with ileus, gastro-esophageal reflux, nausea, vomiting, and constipation), antidepressants (with ileus, nausea, and vomiting), and antidiabetics (with ileus). On the other hand, Charlson comorbidity index had divergent effects, depending on the form of gastrointestinal dysmotility: it increased the risk of gastro-esophageal reflux but protected against ileus, nausea, and vomiting. In clonclusion, recognition of factors associated with gastrointestinal dysmotility should initiate preventative measures and, thus, accelerate the recovery of critically ill.

Size-dependent effects of gold nanoparticles uptake on maturation and antitumor functions of human dendritic cells in vitro

Abstract: Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are claimed as outstanding biomedical tools for cancer diagnostics and photo-thermal therapy, but without enough evidence on their potentially adverse immunological effects. Using a model of human dendritic cells (DCs), we showed that 10 nm- and 50 nm-sized GNPs (GNP10 and GNP50, respectively) were internalized predominantly via dynamin-dependent mechanisms, and they both impaired LPS-induced maturation and allostimulatory capacity of DCs, although the effect of GNP10 was more prominent. However, GNP10 inhibited LPS-induced production of IL-12p70 by DCs, and potentiated their Th2 polarization capacity, while GNP50 promoted Th17 polarization. Such effects of GNP10 correlated with a stronger inhibition of LPS-induced changes in Ca2+ oscillations, their higher number per DC, and more frequent extraendosomal localization, as judged by live-cell imaging, proton, and electron microscopy, respectively. Even when released from heat-killed necrotic HEp-2 cells, GNP10 inhibited the necrotic tumor cell-induced maturation and functions of DCs, potentiated their Th2/Th17 polarization capacity, and thus, impaired the DCs% capacity to induce T cell-mediated anti-tumor cytotoxicity in vitro. Therefore, GNP10 could potentially induce more adverse DC-mediated immunological effects, compared to GNP50.

PRISTOPI K TRAJNOSTNI PRENOVI TURISTIČNIH NASTANITVENIH OBJEKTOV

Abstract: Magistrska naloga zajema tematiko trajnostne prenove turističnih nastanitvenih objektov v arhitekturi. Vsebuje opredelitev problemov vsake gradnje ali prenove obstoječih objektov skozi življenjski cikel stavbe, ki nam podaja jasno razdelitev posameznih področij načrtovanja stavbe. Podane so kratke obrazložitve za lažje razumevanje trajnostne gradnje in razvoja s pomočjo okoljskega, socialnega in ekonomičnega vidika. Na podlagi besede "trajnostnost" so opisane prednosti za uporabnika. V arhitekturi se srečujemo z različnimi materiali. Ob ustrezni uporabi je skoraj vsak material lahko trajnosten. V podpoglavju so predstavljeni organski, anorganski in sintetični materiali. Prav tako so obravnavani različni sistemi aktivnega delovanja stavb z rabo obnovljivih virov tako za novogradnjo kakor tudi za prenovo potratnih objektov. V naslednjih poglavjih so na kratko predstavljeni še koncepti načrtovanja energetsko učinkovitih stavb, primeri turističnih nastanitvenih objektov iz Slovenije in tujine ter zakonodajni okvir, ki so se upoštevali pri prenovi objekta. Naloga se zaključuje z analizo izbranega obstoječega objekta, in sicer hotela Areh. Praktični del vključuje energetsko, arhitekturno in funkcionalno prenovo, pri čemer so opisani tehnični podatki obstoječega in prenovljenega objekta, primerjalne analize v tehnični zasnovi in izračuni toplotne prehodnosti ovoja stavbe v obeh primerih.

ZASNOVA LESENIH MODULARNIH VRTCEV

Abstract: Diplomska naloga obravnava modularni sistem lesene gradnje z uporabo križno lepljenega lesa kot osnova konstrukcije masivno panelnega sistema. Vsebuje kratko opredelitev pojma modul in zgodovinski pregled prefabrikacije materialov ter prve začetke uporabe modula. Opisane so prednosti in značilnosti modularnega lesenega sistema gradnje, kakor tudi sam proces gradnje, transport, postavitev zaključnega dela in lastnosti osnovnih gradbenih materialov katere srečujemo v vsaki zasnovi stavbe. Na kratko so predstavljeni še primeri modularnih vrtcev po svetu in pravila, ki jih moramo upoštevati pri novogradnji vrtcev. Na koncu naloge je oblikovan in funkcionalno zasnovan lesen modularen vrtec, pri čemer so opisani tehnični podatki od zasnove, konstrukcije do naravnega prezračevanja in možnost uporabe obnovljivih virov.
