Digital tools in behavior change support education in health and other students : a systematic review

Opis: Due to the increased prevalence of chronic diseases, behavior changes are integral to self-management. Healthcare and other professionals are expected to support these behavior changes, and therefore, undergraduate students should receive up-to-date and evidence-based training in this respect. Our work aims to review the outcomes of digital tools in behavior change support education. A secondary aim was to examine existing instruments to assess the effectiveness of these tools. A PIO (population/problem, intervention, outcome) research question led our literature search. The population was limited to students in nursing, sports sciences, and pharmacy; the interventions were limited to digital teaching tools; and the outcomes consisted of knowledge, motivation, and competencies. A systematic literature review was performed in the PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Web of Science, SAGE, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases and by backward citation searching. We used PRISMA guidelines 2020 to depict the search process for relevant literature. Two authors evaluated included studies using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) independently. Using inclusion and exclusion criteria, we included 15 studies in the final analysis: six quantitative descriptive studies, two randomized studies, six mixed methods studies, and one qualitative study. According to the MMAT, all studies were suitable for further analysis in terms of quality. The studies resorted to various digital tools to improve students’ knowledge of behavior change techniques in individuals with chronic disease, leading to greater self-confidence, better cooperation, and practical experience and skills. The most common limitations that have been perceived for using these tools are time and space constraints.

The KIDSCREEN-27 scale: translation and validation study of the Slovenian version

Opis: Background: There are many methods available for measuring social support and quality of life (QoL) of adolescents, of these, the KIDSCREEN tools are most widely used. Thus, we aimed to translate and validate the KIDSCREEN-27 scale for the usage among adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years old in Slovenia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2852 adolescents in primary and secondary school from November 2019 to January 2020 in Slovenia. 6-steps method of validation was used to test psychometric properties of the KIDSCREEN-27 scale. We checked descriptive statistics, performed a Mokken scale analysis, parametric item response theory, factor analysis, classical test theory and total (sub)scale scores. Results: All five subscales of the KIDSCREEN-27 formed a unidimensional scale with good homogeneity and reliability. The confirmatory factor analysis showed poor fit in user model versus baseline model metrics (CFI = 0.847; TLI = 0.862) and good fit in root mean square error (RMSEA = 0.072; p(χ2) < 0.001). A scale reliability was calculated using Cronbach's α (0.93), beta (0.86), G6 (0.95) and omega (0.93). Conclusions: The questionnaire showed average psychometric properties and can be used among adolescents in Slovenia to find out about their quality of life. Further research is needed to explore why fit in user model metrics is poor.

Emotional intelligence among nursing students: findings from a longitudinal study

Opis: Emotional intelligence is an important factor for nursing students’ success and work performance. Although the level of emotional intelligence increases with age and tends to be higher in women, results of different studies on emotional intelligence in nursing students vary regarding age, study year, and gender. A longitudinal study was conducted in 2016 and 2019 among undergraduate nursing students to explore whether emotional intelligence changes over time. A total of 111 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study in the first year of their study, and 101 in the third year. Data were collected using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue-SF) and Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT). There was a significant difference in emotional intelligence between students in their first (M = 154.40; 95% CI: 101.85–193.05) and third year (M = 162.01; 95% CI: 118.65–196.00) of study using TEIQue-SF questionnaire. There was a weak correlation (r = 0.170) between emotional intelligence and age measuring using the TEIQue-SF questionnaire, and no significant correlation when measured using SSEIT (r = 0.34). We found that nursing students’ emotional intelligence changes over time with years of education and age, suggesting that emotional intelligence skills can be improved. Further research is needed to determine the gendered nature of emotional intelligence in nursing students.

Physical activity during pregnancy : a systematic review for the assessment of current evidence with future recommendations

Opis: Background: Physical activity is essential to maternal and infant health. Healthcare professionals should inform pregnant women about benefits of physical activity to prevent possible health issues. Those recommendations should elaborate on relevant contemporary evidence. The aim of this study was to review evidence-based recommendations for physical activity during pregnancy. Methods: A systematic search, analysis and synthesis of conducted randomised controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted from October 2021 to June 2022 in following databases: PubMed, CINAHL, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. Literature was searched using inclusion and exclusion criteria and following PRISMA recommendations. Results: Benefits for pregnant-women health and well-being were reported while performing aerobic exercise, lumbar stabilization and stretching exercise, water exercise, nerve and tendon-slip exercise, resistance training and strength training. For all exercise modalities it is recommended to perform moderate intensity activities during the whole time of pregnancy. Conclusions: This systematic literature review supplements current knowledge on physical activity of pregnant women. Exercise interventions are listed and suggested in an integrative model with physical-fitness components to contextualize and promote physical activity among pregnant women.

Vpliv socialne fobije na kakovost življenja mladostnika

Opis: Mladostništvo je obdobje, za katero so značilne velike spremembe in je čas, v katerem posameznik oblikuje svojo identiteto. V tem obdobju se največkrat pojavijo različne anksiozne motnje, ki vidno vplivajo na kakovost življenja posameznika. Socialna fobija spada med najpogostejše anksiozne motnje in je dejavnik tveganja za različne motnje in težave v kasnejšem življenju. Ogroženi so predvsem posameznikov odnos z ljudmi, akademski uspeh in zmožnost za službo in delo v prihodnosti. V zaključnem delu je bila pregledana strokovna in znanstvena literatura v angleškem jeziku. Gradivo smo iskali v naslednjih mednarodnih bazah: PubMed, MEDLINE in Science direct. Uporabljeni članki, ki so se nanašali na izbrano temo, so bili prosto dostopni ter objavljeni v celoti in ne starejši od 10 let in sistematično pregledani. Opažamo negativen vpliv socialne fobije na medsebojne odnose. Mladostniki se vse raje zatekajo v virtualni svet, kjer se lahko pretvarjajo, da so nekdo drug. Situacije, kjer pride do stika iz oči v oči, so za njih zelo stresne in se počutijo nelagodno. Učenci imajo tudi slabši šolski uspeh, kar posledično vpliva na kasnejše poklicno življenje. Zaradi socialne fobije, jih ima veliko težave z delovno zmožnostjo, zato je za te posameznike značilna večja odsotnost v službi. Socialna fobija negativno vpliva na kakovost življenja mladostnikov in to na več področjih. Menimo, da bi se moralo več raziskav osredotočiti na to temo, ker je še premalo raziskana, predvsem pa zato, ker vpliva na mladostnikovo sedanjost in bo vplivala tudi na njegovo prihodnost ter pomembne odločitve.

Učinkovitost kenguru metode za pridobivanje telesne teže pri nedonošenčku

Opis: Uvod: Kenguru metoda je metoda pri obravnavi nedonošenčkov z nizko porodno težo. Pridobivanje telesne teže je zanje bistvenega pomena za pravilno rast in razvoj. Namen diplomskega dela je s pregledom literature raziskati učinkovitost kenguru metode za pridobivanje telesne teže pri nedonošenčku z nizko porodno težo. Metode: Izvedli smo sistematični pregled, analizo in sintezo znanstvene in strokovne literature, pridobljene iz mednarodnih podatkovnih bazah (Pubmed, CINAHL with Full Text, Sage in Medline). Upoštevani so bili vključitveni in izključitveni dejavniki. Potek iskanja literature smo predstavili s PRISMA-diagramom. Za kritično oceno dokazov smo uporabili Joanna Briggs Institute kontrolne sezname, članke smo nato razvrstili po hierarhiji dokazov. Za sintezo podatkov pa smo uporabili metodo tematske analize. Rezultati: V analizo je bilo vključenih 20 raziskav. Ugotovili smo, da je kenguru metoda učinkovita metoda na pridobivanje telesne teže nedonošenčka. Dokazano je bilo hitrejše pridobivanje teže takoj po rojstvu, boljše splošno in večje povprečno dnevno pridobivanje telesne teže. Daljše kot je izvajanje kenguru metode, večja je učinkovitost na dvig telesne teže. Razprava in sklep: Na osnovi raziskave ugotavljamo, da v zadnjih letih številne enote za intenzivno nego novorojenčkov v razvitih državah spodbujajo starše k izvajanju kenguru metode. Predvsem je treba dati večji poudarek na izobraževanju zdravstvenih delavcev. Le s tem bomo lahko kenguru metodo približali širšemu občinstvu, razbili strahove in omogočili nedonošenčkom dodatno možnost za boljšo rast in razvoj.

Vpliv alkohola na delovanje možganov mladostnikov

Opis: Uvod: Alkohol velja za eno izmed najbolj priljubljenih psihoaktivnih substanc, ki ima različne negativne učinke na celotno telo. Še posebej dovzetni za njihove učinke so mladostniki, pri katerih so v času odraščanja možgani prav posebej občutljivi na nevrotoksine alkohola, kar pogosto pušča razvojne spremembe, ki se kasneje kažejo pri odraslih. Metode: Pregledali, analizirali in sintetizirali smo znanstveno literaturo s področja vpliva alkohola na mladostnike. Literaturo smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, Medline in Cinahl. Pri tem smo upoštevali iskalno strategijo ter vključitvene in izključitvene kriterije, ki smo si jih zastavili. Pregled literature smo prikazali z diagramom PRISMA. Rezultati: V končno analizo smo vključili 9 člankov. Rezultati pregledanih člankov so pokazali, da so mladostniki, ki so uživali alkohol, imeli zapozneli in abnormalen razvoj nekaterih možganskih delov, še posebej v primerjavi z mladostniki, ki so se alkoholu izogibali. To se je pokazalo na nekaterih kognitivnih sposobnostih, kot sta spomin in pozornost. Zaključek: Popivanje je v sodobnem času pri mladostnikih preveč razširjeno. Velika večina jih konzumira alkohol že v zgodnjih letih in v prevelikih količinah. Posledice se kažejo na spremenjenih možganskih strukturah in v vedenju mladostnikov. Nujno bi bilo boljše ozaveščanje že v zgodnjih letih.

Nursing support in facilitating mental well-being of adolescents

Opis: Background: Mental well-being is a state in which an individual acts positively, feels good, copes with the daily stressors and contributes to his/her community. Adolescents are a population who experience the various stressors brought on by growing up. The purpose of the doctoral dissertation is to determine the mental well-being of adolescents in correlation with the support of family, friends, teachers, and nurses. Methods: The research was based on the paradigm of pragmatism which supports the usage of quantitative and qualitative approaches using mixed methods. The quantitative part of the research included 2 972 adolescents. The survey method was used, descriptive and inferential statistics and presentation of the results were done with the help of tables, charts and figures. In the qualitative part of the research, data were collected using the interview method. Interviews were conducted with 5 focus groups involving 16 adolescents, 8 parents, 6 teachers, 3 legislators, and 6 nurses. The data were analysed following the steps of Corbin & Strauss (2008). Results: The mental well-being of adolescents is positively related (r = 0.624) to their social support. The mental well-being (r = -0.286) and social support (r = -0.239) of adolescents declines with age. Adolescents are of the opinion that the role of the nurse is to talk to them, help them, advise them, and explain difficulties that bother them. The mental well-being of adolescents is related to their interaction and interpersonal relations with parents, friends, and teachers. In ensuring the mental well-being of adolescents, we must consider the model multidimensional well-being. The Model of Interpersonal Relationships is proposed, which is formed based on the results of quantitative and qualitative part of the research and taking into account the concepts of the Theory of Interpersonal Relationships (Peplau, 1952) and the model of Multidimensional Well-being (Sarriera & Bedin, 2017). Discussion: Mental well-being is an important and relatively new concept in nursing. Adolescents’ mental well-being is closely linked to interpersonal relationships and a safe environment in which they can express themselves. Adolescents and parents do not obtain the necessary professional help in a timely manner. There is also a need for additional education on the mental well-being of adolescents among adolescents, parents, teachers, and nurses. Conclusion: Interpersonal relationships between adolescents, family, friends, teachers, and nurses are of major importance for ensuring mental well-being. There is a need for further research to improve the mental well-being of adolescents worldwide.

Duševno zdravje mladostnikov v času pandemije covid-19

Opis: Uvod: od marca 2020 je razglašena pandemija koronavirusne bolezni COVID-19, ki se širi po aerogeni poti. Pandemijo lahko obvladujemo s strogimi ukrepi, kot so: omejevanje socialnih stikov, nošenje maske in razkuževanje rok, kar ima velik vpliv na duševno zdravje mladostnikov. Metode: s pomočjo diagrama PRISMA smo prikazali postopek izbora relevantne literature s področja duševnega zdravja mladostnikov v času pandemije COVID-19. S pomočjo tematske analize smo analizirali 12 znanstvenih člankov, ki so bili napisani v obdobju od decembra 2019 do oktobra 2021. Rezultati: rezultati raziskav kažejo, da se je duševno zdravje mladostnikov v času pandemije COVID-19 poslabšalo. Najpogosteje poročajo o simptomih anksioznosti, depresivnosti, osamljenosti, stresu, nespečnosti, vedenjskih in odnosnih težavah. Razprava in sklep: rizični dejavniki za razvoj in povečanje psihičnih težav mladostnikov v času pandemije COVID-19 so predhodne težave z duševnim zdravjem, ženski spol, enostarševska družina, nizek dohodek družine mladostnika in učne težave. Nadalje predlagamo dodatno pozornost raziskovalcev pri preverjanju korelacij med različnimi sociodemografskimi spremenljivkami in duševnim zdravjem mladostnikov v času pandemije COVID-19, ter več longitudinalnih študij za razumevanje medsebojnih vplivov med psihološkimi konstrukti pri mladostnikih v času pandemije COVID-19.

Vpliv prenajedanja na kakovost življenja mladostnikov

Opis: Uvod: Za motnjo prenajedanja so značilne ponavljajoče epizode prehranjevanja, ki so strnjene v obdobje dveh ur. Ob daljšem trajanju se lahko začnejo kazati motnje na psihiatričnem, zdravstvenem in vedenjskem področju. Navedeni dejavniki še posebej vplivajo na kakovost življenja mladostnikov, saj ti različno sprejemajo sebe in okolico, v kateri živijo. Metode: Postavili smo PIO vprašanje, na katerega smo tudi odgovorili. Vire smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar in Cochrane Library. Pri izboru člankov smo uporabili PRISMA flow diagram. Karakteristike vključenih raziskav smo predstavili v tabeli, prav tako smo jih kritično ocenili in sintetizirali dokaze. Rezultati: Ugotovili smo, da ima veliko mladostnikov slabšo kakovost življenja od pričakovane, in sicer zaradi socialnih težav, nizke samopodobe, oslabljene mobilnosti, zdravstvenih zapletov ter psihiatričnih, vedenjskih, razpoloženjskih in tesnobnih motenj. V raziskavah smo zasledili, da imajo določeni težave tudi s perfekcionizmom, pretiranim nadzorom nad svojim telesom in nestrpnostjo. Velik del mladostnikov ima težave tudi z debelostjo. Razprava in sklep: Ugotovitve kažejo, da ima prenajedanje mnoge slabosti, ki se pri mladostnikih kažejo na psihičnem, fizičnem, socialnem in duševnem področju. Najbolj zaskrbljujoče pa je dejstvo, da se težave s starostjo stopnjujejo, kar lahko prinese več negativnih posledic na njihovo kasnejše življenje.
