Agricultural households in mountain areas in pre- and post-accession Slovenia
Štefan Bojnec, Kristina Knific, 2010, review article

Abstract: This paper analyses structural changes in agriculture and agricultural households in the mountainous areas of the Gorenjska region in Slovenia. The focus is on agricultural multifunctional roles, agricultural and agricultural households’ structural changes pre- and post-accession of Slovenia to the European Union (EU) on the basis of datasets obtained by two in-depth surveys from 2001 and 2007. The analyses confirm adjustments of farm households to the use of subsidies and new regulations, and diversification of agricultural households’ incomes. Short-term and long-term strategies of farm households vary depending on farms’ natural factor endowments for agriculture, farm size and structures of farm households, availability of agricultural land and their rental values, diversification of incomes with self-employment and employment outside the farm household.

Higher education demand factors and the demand for tourism education in Slovenia
Žiga Čepar, Štefan Bojnec, 2010, original scientific article

Abstract: This paper investigates the higher education demand in Slovenia, which is investigated in general and in the field of tourism, using regression analysis on selected time-series data. We find a positive and significant association between the higher education demand in general and the demographic and socio-economic circumstances. Demographic trends in general slow down or even decrease the demand for higher education, while socio-economic factors mostly encourage the demand for higher education. However, unfavourable demographic factors are already prevailing over the favourable socio-economic factors, meaning that growth rates of absolute demand for higher education are starting to decline. We analyze the movements of demand for higher education in the field of tourism in recent years and compare them to the movements of the demand for higher education in general and to the movements of the demand for tourism in Slovenia. The demand for tourist services is a factor that encourages demands for higher education in the field of tourism. Finally, we derive some conclusions about higher education demand determinants in Slovenia in general and in the field of tourism, and propose some recommendations for national educational policy.

Prisotne so od začetka do konca procesa v različnih nalogah: nalaganje, prevoz, pomični drogovi, transportni trakovi, polžasti transporterji, transport plina, transport tekočin in transport energije.

Principal determinants of Slovenian and other NMS' trade in agricultural and food products
Darja Majkovič, Štefan Bojnec, Jernej Turk, 2005, original scientific article

Abstract: Trade liberalization for new member states (NMS) of the European Union (EU) following the recent EU accesion towards the East, tends to lead to an increase in trade flows among current EU-25 members. The trade creation effects induce the increased traded volume and the diversified trade types. These development patterns are revealed also in agricultural and food trade inNMS. Comparisons of the Slovenian agricultural and food trade with the similar trade for the other NMS are conducted with the emphasis on distinctionbetween primary and processed agricultural and food products. On the basis of the analysis it has been faund that the prevailing trade type is the inter-industry trade, which implies higher adjustment cost of displacementof resources across different industries. Intra-industry trade, which is often observed in trade among countries with similar factor endowments and smaller economic distances, represents only minor part of NMS-trade in agri-food products. Trade specialization, trade patterns, and trade geography in agri-food products imply some similarities with developing countries with less competitive agricultural and facto sector.
