The Decision support system for supplementary activies on organic farms

Opis: In this paper we present the decision support system for ranking food processing projects on organic farms. The system is based on simulation modeling and multi criteria decision analysis. The deterministic simulation system KARSIM EKO 1.0 (DSM) consists out of deterministic production simulation models that enable different types of costs calculations for organic production and on farm food processing in the framework of supplementary activities. Simulation models results were further evaluated using a qualitative multi-attribute modeling methodology, supported by the software tool DEX-i and quantitative analytical hierarchical process - AHP, supported by Expert Choice 2000 TM software. The analysis showed that by using current model input parameter the combination of apple cider, apple vinegar and plum brandy (business alternative 1) results with the best multicriteria evaluation (EC=0,413 and DEX-i evaluation = very good).

A feasibility study of fruit brandy production

Opis: Fruit brandy production is considered as one of the very possibilities for home fruit processing. When considering to set up new farm business, the information regarding the economic feasibility o9f individual agricultural households should be obteinded by each farm entrepreneur. The simulation cost model for Slovene brandy production on the fruit farms is developed in this study. The break-even price and break-even yield were calculated for different kinds of fruit brandy. The sensitivity analysis was simultaneously conducted in order to determine the impact of different prices on the net financial result gained. The results show that home fruit brandy production could be economically feasible. The highest financial result was achived with plum brandy production, followed by pear brandy production and peach brandy production. Several aspects of tax legislation concerning the brandy production are also discussed here.

Impact of various rpm levels on rotary and pendulum spreaders performance

Opis: The paper demonstrates how different levels of shaft revolutions affect the performance of mono-disk rotary and pendulum fertiliser widely used by Slovenian farmers. Tests have been conducted on mono-disk rotary spreader manufactured by the Italian company AGREX, and on a pendulum spreader manufactured by Slovenian companz CREINA fr5om Kranj. To establish the impact of different revolution levels on the transverse spread-dispersion, spread width and flow of a fertiliser, both types of spreaders have been submitted totesting at different rpm levels of the tractor drive shaft: at 290 rpm, 410 rpm, and 540 rpm. It has been astablished that the spread width on both spreaders statisticaly significant (P>0.05) increases with the increase of the rpm`s. The fertiliyer flow statistically significant (P<0.05) changes onlyon the pendulum spreaders, whereas on rotary spreaders it has been found out that the fertilizer flow does not depend on the rpm`s.

The variation of F2 progenies derived from interspecific crosses between Phaseolus vulgaris and Phaseolus coccineus

Opis: Interspecific hybridisation within the genus Phaseolus represents an importantsource of genetic variation which can be very useful in breeding programmes based on recurrent selection. The aim of this investigation was to analyse the phenotypic variation and relationships among the most important quantitative traits in F2 generation materials derived from crosses P. vulgaris x P. coccienus. P. vulgaris was used as female while P. coccineus as male parent. The F2 material was composed of 825 individuals which originated from open pollination of 65 F1 plants. The most variable quantitative trait was the number of flowers per inflorescence, which varied from 0 to 57 (CV=45,8 %). The second was the inflorescence length which varied from 2.5 to 74 cm (CV=39,0 %). The highest value (CV=70.4 %) was obtained for floral colour (a qualitative trait which was transformed into a special numerical scale).The correlation analysis showed that there were close relationships among the number of leaves, number of flowers, number of pods, number of seedsand the length of the growth period. For practical breeding, the most useful is probably the correlation between the number of inflorescences and the number of seeds per plant (r=0.503 and 0.560) because the number of inflorescences can be easily determined at the beginning of the hybridisation period, and the number of seeds is more or less directly associated with the yield. For the final visual selection, at the end of the vegetation period, the most useful trait is the number of pods, which is highly correlated with the number of seeds (r=0.740 and 0.916)

The contents of Cu, Mn, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Pb at different stages of the winemaking process

Opis: In samples taken during different stages of winemaking process (from grapes, crushed grapes, pressed pomace, must deposit, deposit of lees, must before and after clarification and wine) the Cu, Mn and Zn contents were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) and the Cd, Pb and Cr contents were determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Grapes, crushed grapes, pressed pomace, must deposit and deposit of lees were microwave digested with nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen peroxide solution, while for must and wine no special treatments were necessary. The highest contents of Cu, Mn, Zn, Pb, Cd and Cr were determined in the pressed pomace, lees, and in white grape varieties also in must deposit. Mean values obtained of dry weight (pressed pomace, lees, must deposit) were 63 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg, 184 mg/kg for Cu, 11 mg/kg, 15 mg/kg, 134 mg/kg for Mn, 14 mg/kg, 35 mg/kg, 17 mg/kg for Zn, 0.3 mg/kg, 0.5 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg for Pb, 0.5 mg/kg, 1.0 mg/kg, 1.8 mg/kg for Cr, 15.4 µg/kg, 24.4 µg/kg, 13.0 µg/kg for Cd. The Cu content was decreasing from the grapes to the bottled wine, whereas the Mn, Zn, Cd, Cr and Pb contents in the bottled wine were higher than in musts in all investigated white and red grape varieties. In ten wine samples the following contents were determined: Cu; mean 0.12 mg/L (range: 0.06-0.30 mg/L), Mn; mean 1.04 mg/L (range: 0.60-1.78 mg/L), Zn; mean 0.50 mg/L (range: 0.13-1.03 mg/L), Cd; mean 0.34 µg/L (range: 0.08-1.04 µg/L), Cr; mean 17.0µg/L (range: 5.2-25.1 µg/L) and Pb; mean 25.3 µg/L (range: 16.4-37.8 µg/L).
