Morpho-agronomic characteristics of the interspecific hybrid Cucurbita ficifolia x C. maxima
Metka Šiško, Anton Ivančič, Borut Bohanec, Simona Šiftar, 2004, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The aim of the investigation was to describe some of the main morpho-agronomiccharacteristics of the interspecific hybrid Cucurbita ficifolia x C. maxima, and to define the traits which can be used for distinguishing this hybrid from the parental species. The hybrid was obtained using emryo-rescue technique. The plants were extremely vigorous and were growing and flowering until the first frost. The ratio male versus was rangingbetween 1:40 and 1:80. Most of the male and female were sterile or partly sterile. The majority of the analysed traits were intermediate regarding the parental species. The most appropriate traits for the determination of the interspecific nature were the leaf margin, the shape and colour of ripe fruits and the shape of fruit stalks. The fruit exterior was extremely hard (similarly to the one of C. ficifolia) and cracked in several places.

Principal determinants of Slovenian and other NMS' trade in agricultural and food products
Jernej Turk, Darja Majkovič, Štefan Bojnec, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Trade liberalization for new member states (NMS) of the European Union (EU) following the recent EU accesion towards the East, tends to lead to an increase in trade flows among current EU-25 members. The trade creation effects induce the increased traded volume and the diversified trade types. These development patterns are revealed also in agricultural and food trade inNMS. Comparisons of the Slovenian agricultural and food trade with the similar trade for the other NMS are conducted with the emphasis on distinctionbetween primary and processed agricultural and food products. On the basis of the analysis it has been faund that the prevailing trade type is the inter-industry trade, which implies higher adjustment cost of displacementof resources across different industries. Intra-industry trade, which is often observed in trade among countries with similar factor endowments and smaller economic distances, represents only minor part of NMS-trade in agri-food products. Trade specialization, trade patterns, and trade geography in agri-food products imply some similarities with developing countries with less competitive agricultural and facto sector.

A Short review of chain controlling systems in livestock production technology
Dejan Škorjanc, Igor Vojtic, Maksimiljan Brus, 2005, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: There is a general agreement that the main reason for domestication was to provide a reliable source of food protein. Wild animals were hunted for thousands of years, killed for meat, wool, fur, and liquid by our predecesors. This one-way relationship between humans and animals was changed much later, during domastication and until know, the men took responsibility for animals and changed and developed different production system and ethical relationship with animals. After Second World War, the governments tried to change so called traditional agriculture to more intensive. Animals have been kept in high concentration and for the continuous production as a consequence, disease control became essential. European Union issued the paper on food safety (White paper on food safety 2000) where the EU commission triedto push forward a framework of legislation for further improvement and to develope more transparent and improved quality standards throughout a food chain from farm to table. This paper reviews a number of recent developments, starting with an integrated quality control system that collecting important data from the animal birth, through to the animal rearing phase to the end (i.e. slaughter). The importance of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is discussed together with their concepts to assure safe animal food production.

Multi attribute decision model for orchard renewal - case study in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Vjekoslav Par, Jernej Turk, Črtomir Rozman, Andreja Borec, Karmen Pažek, Darja Majkovič, Ferhat Ćejvanović, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The fruit production in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) is slowly returning to normality after Balkan wars. Due to favorable climatic and soil conditions it presents a clear business opportunity for family farms. The decision which fruit species/variety to grow is a complex decision and should be made on the basis of sound empirical analysis. This paper present a multi criteria model for planning and decision making methodology based on expert system DEX-i. In the first stage the technological and financial cost benefit analysis were conducted for each fruit production alternative. The results were further evaluated with expert system DEX-i considering all possible criteria influencing the fruit grower decision. In the case of a sample family farm the plum yielded with best multi criteria evaluation, followed by apple and pear, while sour cherry gave unsatifactory outcome.

Relations between land-use and socio-economic structure on farms with and without agricultural land abandonment
Andreja Borec, Karmen Pažek, Antonin Flambard, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Agricultural land abandonment and forest expansion is becoming a serious problem in Slovenia. Spontaneous forest expansion has a negative effect on natural and social conditions. Thus the consideration of natural and social conditions is of high importance when talking measures to prevent forest expansion. In the article, the comparison of farms with and without abandonment of agricultural use regarding land-use and socio-economic characteristics was made. The result of test show no statistically significant differences at the 5 % level between farms with and those withoutabandonment of agricultural land regarding socio-economic structure. Analysis of variance ANOVA was used for estimating the difference between various socio-economic structures on farms with abondoned agricultural land. The results of ANOVA show a statistically significant differences (p<0.05) between socio-economic structures on the farms with abandonment of agricultural land. The ANOVA results pointed out that aged farms have the largest abandoned land areas. In order to ascertain the differences between farms with and without abandoned agricultural land regarding their land use structure, t-test was carried out, and its results have shown no statisticallysignificant differences between farms with and those without abandoned agricultural land regarding land-use structure.
