A real-world information security performance assessment using a multidimensional socio-technical approach
Kaja Prislan Mihelič, Anže Mihelič, Igor Bernik, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Measuring the performance of information security is an essential part of the information security management system within organisations. Studies in the past mainly focused on establishing qualitative measurement approaches. Since these can lead to ambiguous conclusions, quantitative metrics are being increasingly proposed as a useful alternative. Nevertheless, the literature on quantitative approaches remains scarce. Thus, studies on the evaluation of information security performance are challenging, especially since many approaches are not tested in organisational settings. The paper aims to validate the model used for evaluating the performance of information security management system through a multidimensional socio-technical approach, in a real-world settings among medium-sized enterprises in Slovenia. The results indicate that information security is strategically defined and compliant, however, measures are primarily implemented at technical and operational levels, while its strategic management remains underdeveloped. We found that the biggest issues are related to information resources and risk management, where information security measurement-related activities proved to be particularly problematic. Even though enterprises do possess certain information security capabilities and are aware of the importance of information security, their current practices make it difficult for them to keep up with the fast-paced technological and security trends.

Opis: For security and justice professionals (e.g., police officers, lawyers, judges), the thousands of peer-reviewed articles on nonverbal communication represent important sources of knowledge. However, despite the scope of the scientific work carried out on this subject, professionals can turn to programs, methods, and approaches that fail to reflect the state of science. The objective of this article is to examine (i) concepts of nonverbal communication conveyed by these programs, methods, and approaches, but also (ii) the consequences of their use (e.g., on the life or liberty of individuals). To achieve this objective, we describe the scope of scientific research on nonverbal communication. A program (SPOT; Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques), a method (the BAI; Behavior Analysis Interview) and an approach (synergology) that each run counter to the state of science are examined. Finally, we outline five hypotheses to explain why some organizations in the fields of security and justice are turning to pseudoscience and pseudoscientific techniques. We conclude the article by inviting these organizations to work with the international community of scholars who have scientific expertise in nonverbal communication and lie (and truth) detection to implement evidence-based For security and justice professionals (e.g., police officers, lawyers, judges), the thousands of peer-reviewed articles on nonverbal communication represent important sources of knowledge. Maintenance of heavy trucks : an international study on truck drivers
Sebastjan Škerlič, Edgar Sokolovskij, Vanja Erčulj, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Since the implementation of modern approaches in operation maintenance, drivers are expected to be integrated into the entire system of maintenance in order to take over the professional competencies of maintenance workers. For this purpose, an international study was conducted on a sample of 249 truck drivers, with the aim to determine how maintenance in transport companies affects the role of heavy truck drivers in fleet maintenance. Based on the developed SEM model, it was determined that building an efficient maintenance infrastructure in transport companies enables the active participation of truck drivers in the company’s maintenance system. Drivers are capable of repairing minor failures, but only if they are proactive, which will affect their preventive behaviour. This can greatly benefit transport companies, as the results show that the vehicles are utilised more efficiently and in a better technical condition. The results therefore represent an important guideline for improving maintenance in transport companies, developing new competencies of truck drivers and upgrading existing knowledge in the development of modern operation maintenance.

The relation between project team conflict and user resistance in software projects
Simon Vrhovec, Blaž Markelj, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study aims to explore the relation between conflict in the project team and user resistance to change in software projects. Following a cross-sectional research design, a survey was conducted among 1,000 largest companies in Slovenia (N = 114). The results of PLSSEM analysis indicate that task and process conflicts in the project team are associated with user resistance. This study is among the first to associate conflict within the project team and user resistance in the implementing organization. It is also one of the first studies to investigate the relations between different types of conflict and user resistance. Project managers may invest resources into adequately managing conflicts within the project team related to tasks in which the project team interacts with users of developed software to lower user resistance. Project with poorly defined roles (e.g., agile and information security projects) may be more prone to user resistance than projects with clearly defined roles.
