Stimulating the development of rhythmic abilities in preschool children in Montessori kindergartens with music‑movement activities : a quasi-experimental study
Maruša Laure, Katarina Habe, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article examines the effects of Montessori music-movement activities on the development of the rhythmic abilities of 59 children from Montessori preschools, aged between 3 and 6 years. Children were deployed into two experimental groups (EG 1 (n = 20) & EG 2 (n = 22)) and a control group (CG) (n = 17). Our intervention consisted of introducing 15 to 20 min of unstructured movement time, either accompanied by a piano (EG 1) or recording (EG 2), three times a week for four months, whereas the control group carried on the usual Montessori program. We used a quasi-experimental nonequivalent groups design with pretest-posttest. Three tests for measuring rhythmic abilities were used: auditory discrimination of the rhythmic patterns, imitation of spoken rhythmic phrases, and determining the synchronization of movement with the rhythm of the music. The interventions had a positive effect on the development of the rhythmic abilities of children included in the study. The most significant effect was noticed in EG 1, while no effect of non-activity was detected in the control group.

The idea that digital remote learning can happen anytime, anywhere in forced online teacher education is a myth
Andrej Šorgo, Mateja Ploj Virtič, Kosta Dolenc, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: An involuntary international experiment in which the entire student population was switched to digital remote learning due to the measures to stop COVID-19 put the paradigm of "anytime, anywhere learning" to the test. Online survey responses were obtained from 281 preservice primary and subject teachers. Using Structural Equation Modelling, connections were examined by inspection of path coefcients between constructs quality of personal digital technology, satisfaction, health, well-being, motivation, and physical activity. Problems with the quality of personal digital technology had a moderate infuence on all constructs except motivation. Satisfaction infuenced all constructs, well-being, and health the most. When comparing responses of the bottom and top third students based on the quality of personal digital technology, it was found that students who did not have the appropriate technology and workspace were less satisfed and sufered more. This is refected in an increased incidence of problems related to health, well-being, and physical activity, along with a decrease in motivation. At least for the technologically deprived, the paradigm of "anytime, anywhere learning" is a myth. The study highlights the need for educational institutions to provide adequate technology and workspaces for all students in order to support their well-being and motivation during remote learning.

3.
New digital competence for science technology and engineering education
Metka Kordigel Aberšek, Boris Aberšek, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the years 2019-2021 a significant step was made in terms of distance learning, which would have otherwise, in normal circumstances, taken several years. While the solutions applied were the best in the given situation, the question arises of what these solutions imply in terms of longterm, systematic changes. The presented research touches upon three key areas that characterize today’s schools: motivation, atmosphere, and competences of teachers and teacher-training students. The starting point of this research is the premise that the pre-crisis digital competences are simply not good enough for today’s situation, or for the near future. Research results show that such fast-tracked changes and the transition to distance education have led to a significant decrease in the motivation of both, teachers and students, that the general atmosphere has worsened, and that there is a significant decrease in competences to be perceived, especially with regard to social and communication competences. The research shows also that neither teachers nor students are sufficiently qualified to work in the society of the future, in society 5.0. What is needed are actual, real changes in the field of digital literacy and digital competences, also indicated in this research.

Collaboration with immigrant parents in early childhood education in Slovenia : how important are environmental conditions and skills of teachers?
Marta Licardo, Lais Oliveira Leite, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The purpose of this study is to analyse how important are specific environmental conditions and skills of early childhood education (ECE) teachers as predictors of collaboration with immigrant parents. The study included 348 ECE teachers in Slovenia. The results revealed that environmental conditions (e.g., gender, level of education, job position, educational environment support) are important predictors of collaboration with immigrant parents. Male teachers, teachers whose job position is ECE teacher rather than assistant teacher, and teachers who have higher levels of education reported a significantly better collaboration with immigrant parents than female teachers and teachers with lower educational levels. Regarding ECE teacher skills, results revealed that interpersonal and professional skills (e.g., positive values, positive attitudes towards teaching immigrant children and perceived immigrant child misbehaviour) are important predictors of reported collaboration with immigrant parents in ECE. The results are of practical significance for ECE teachers, immigrant parents and ECE management staff.

Teaching for the Future in Early Childhood Education
2023, zbornik

Opis: The monograph focuses on the teaching and learning of children in early childhood education. The international monograph includes contributions by authors from three countries, highlighting different perspectives on contemporary teaching and learning specific to ECE. The monograph is based on the collaboration of researchers from different universities in the Erasmus+ Algolittle project, who have explored important contemporary concepts of teaching in ECE, such as how to develop algorithmic thinking in preschool children, how to teach algorithmic thinking to ECE students, and the relevance of such cognitive skills for future knowledge. The monograph goes beyond the scope of the project by incorporating new scientific findings related to the implementation of various concepts in learning and teaching preschool children, such as executive functions, algorithmic thinking, creativity, problem-based thinking, integration of teaching from different domains, distance learning, specific pedagogical practices, thus presenting a wide range of topics relevant for the development of learning and teaching in early childhood education now and in the future.
