Distortion of the substructure of a 20-ft shipping container exposed to zinc hot-dip galvanizing

Opis: The main goal of this study was to build a model for a numerical simulation of hot-dip galvanizing of a 20-ft ISO shipping container. For that purpose, the basic transient thermo-mechanical problem of a steel structure under the influence of the temperature characteristic for a zinc hot-dip galvanizing bath was analyzed. Numerical calculations were performed for a simple part and for the complex substructure of the container. Calculations were carried out on the Salome-Meca platform using a Netgen mesh generator and a Code_Asterfinite-element solver.

Distribution of zinc in vineyard areas treated with zinc containing phytopharmaceuticals

Opis: Zinc concentration in vineyard soil is, in general, increased markedly by the long term application of zinc containing fungicides. The most significant source of Zn are nowadays dithiocarbamate based fungicides, e.g. Antracol. The concentration of total zinc and EDTA and ammonium lactate (AL) extractable Zn in soils are evaluated together with the concentration of Zn in different inorganic fertilizers and in fungicides. the results of the study indicate in the observed vineyard areas a long term accumulation of zinc appears. The study was made in vineyards of Kalvarija and Meranovo (Maribor, Slovenia).

Two new zinc(II) acetates with 3- and 4-aminopyridine

Opis: The synthesis and characterization of two new zinc(II) coordination compounds with 3- and 4-aminopyridine are reported. They were obtained after adding a water solution of $Zn(CH_3COO)_2$ · $2H_2O$ or dissolving solid $Zn(CH_3COO)_2$ · $2H_2O$ in methanol solutions of 3- and 4-aminopyridine. The products were characterized structurally by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Colourless crystals of the compound synthesized by the reaction of $Zn(CH_3COO)_2$ · $2H_2O$ and 3-aminopyridine (3-apy), are built of trinuclear complex molecules with the formula $[Zn_3(O_2CCH_3)_6(3- apy)_2(H_2O)_2]$(1). The molecules consists of two terminal $Zn$ atoms, coordinated tetrahedrally, and one central $Zn$ atom, coordinated octahedrally. Colourless crystals, obtained by the reaction of $Zn(CH_3COO)_2$ · $2H_2O$ with 4-aminopyridine (4-apy), consist of a mononuclear complex $[Zn(O_2CCH_3)_2(4-apy)_2]$(2). Hydrogen-bonding interactions in the crystal structures of both complexes are reported.

Synthesis of PMMA/ZnO nanoparticles composite used for resin teeth

Opis: Wear resistance is one of the most important physical properties of the artificial teeth used in acrylic dentures. The goal of this research was to synthesize a new composite material made of matrix Poly-(methyl methacrylate)-PMMA with different percentages (2 % and 3 % of volume fractions) of zinc-oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) as reinforcing elements, to improve its mechanical properties. The dynamic mechanical behaviour of this composite was studied through the DMA method in comparison to the pure PMMA supported by the characterization of their microstructures. Then the wear resistance was analysed on the samples, which were prepared in the form of teeth. In this context their vertical height loss was measured after 100,000 chewing cycles on a chewing simulator, before and after the artificial thermal ageing. Investigations showed that the PMMA/ZnO NP composites dampened the vibrations better than the pure PMMA, which could be assigned to the homogenous distribution of ZnO NPs in the PMMA matrix. It was found that the mean vertical height loss for the pure PMMA teeth was significantly higher (more than 4 times) compared to composite teeth made with ZnO NPs. Introducing the thermal artificial ageing led to the finding that there was no effect on the height loss by the composite material with 3 % of volume fractions of ZnO NPs. Based on this it was concluded that PMMA/ZnO NPs composites showed improved in-vitro wear resistance compared to acrylic-resin denture teeth, so this new composite material should be preferred when occlusal stability is considered to be of high priority.
