Factors affecting Zoo visitors’ conservation beliefs and knowledge of large carnivores in 2009 and a dozen years later
Vesna Mihelič Oražem, Aleksandra Majić Skrbinšek, Andrej Šorgo, Iztok Tomažič, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Teaching in a formal learning environment mainly focuses on gaining knowledge, and scarcely on the development of pro-environmental attitudes. Knowledge can also be gained in informal learning institutions, such as zoos, and their potential use in general public education should not be neglected. This paper explores factors influencing the conservation beliefs of zoo visitors about brown bears, grey wolves, and Eurasian lynx. The study undertaken in Zoo Ljubljana (Slovenia) consisted of surveys performed in 2009 (n = 613) and in 2021 (n = 257). The levels of knowledge and education influenced both supporting and opposing beliefs about the three large carnivore species. The gender factor was less uniform: both supporting and opposing beliefs about lynx were demonstrated, but only opposing beliefs about brown bear and wolf. The study indicates that knowledge has the most significant influence on conservation beliefs, thus highlighting the importance of educational and communication activities in management and conservation actions regarding large carnivore species. The varied gender influence suggests that species-specific educational activities should be encouraged.

Center for Research and Conservation of Endemic Plants with Ornithological Center in Montenegro
Mina Gutović, 2018, magistrsko delo

Opis: The purpose of this master thesis is to plan a Center for the research and conservation of endemic plants with an ornithological center. The project, located on Lake Skadar, aims to educate and inform visitors, raise awareness and interest in the environment, plants, and birds, as well as to put an emphasis on the natural and cultural richness of the Lake. The vision of this project is based on the theoretical research of the vernacular architecture of the Lake Skadar basin and other similar examples in the world. The new architecture fits into the existing ambience, associating itself with old architecture in its form, volume and use of materials. In addition to the educational and scientific functions, the project aims at developing tourism in this area. Therefore, the complex consists of facilities that are located on several different locations on the territory of Lake Skadar. This design project includes the following facilities: a laboratory center, museum and restaurant, an ornithological center facility with staff offices and accommodation units for guest lecturers, a Museum Education Pavilion, a teahouse, an observation point for birds, sales stands, public toilets, as well as an informative and urban mobilier.
