Opis: Despite the increasing interest in model-driven engineering, there are many open issues that need to be addressed to advance the technology and promote its adoption. This position paper outlines several current limitations of model transformation, with a specific emphasis on model optimization. A primary shortcoming that can be found in many model transformation approaches and tools is the lack of formal semantics to define the meaning of a modeling abstraction. This inadequacy is the source of many problems surrounding the practice of model engineering.

STRUCTURING OF SOL-GEL FUNCTIONALIZED CELLULOSE HYBRID MATERIALS AND THEIR CHARACTERIZATION

Opis: The goal of this thesis is the structuring of cellulose nanocrystals using different organofunctional silane compounds and different cationic species to prepare highly functional materials with tailored properties. In addition different new aspects and approaches for the structural characterization of functionalised cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) functionalised with different organofunctionalalkoxysilanes as well as cationic species have been introduced. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) are prepared using three different acidic conditions to hydrolyse microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). The sulphuric acid hydrolysis introduces highly negative charged sulphate groups on the CNC. The aqueous nanocrystalline cellulose suspensions (aNCS) are analysed in terms of ζ-potential related to the pH and concentration to investigate the stability while dynamic light scattering (DLS) is used to investigate the size distribution. The hydrochloric acid hydrolysis in contrast only removes the amorphous regions but the so obtained CNC are less stabilized (decreased ζ-potential) and tend to agglomerate very fast. The use of the mixture of both acids (HCl and H2SO4) during the hydrolysis of MCC introduces less sulphate groups compared with the sulphuric acid hydrolysis. AFM investigations show that the shapes of the CNC are highly influenced by the hydrolysis conditions. While the shape of the H2SO4 hydrolysed CNC is rod like, while the shape of the other two CNC samples is more spherical in nature. One of the major topic in this work is the analysis of aNCS in aqueous solutions by small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). The use of the generalized indirect Fourier transformation (GIFT) method allows the analysis of these systems and structural properties such as shape, size and surface charge of aNCS can be assessed. Using this kind of characterisation it can be seen that the shape of the H2SO4 hydrolysed CNC is definitely rod like while the other CNC sample can be described with spheres. In addition to the aNCS characterisation different substrates (Si-wafer, glass slides, polystyrene, etc.) are equipped with aNCS using a variety of different deposition methods (e.g. spin coating, solution casting, dip coating). The resulting films are studied in terms of morphology AFM, SARFUS and SEM. Sophisticated scattering techniques are employed for surface structural characterisation as grazing incidence small angel x-ray scattering. The determination of surface free energies allows conclusions about the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity as well as the interaction capacity with different liquids. It can be seen that besides the hydrophilic nature of the CNC also hydrophobic interactions are present. The highly negative charged CNC sample which was prepared using sulphuric acid hydrolysis is found to be best suitable for the further hybridization with different organofunctional silanes and for the layer by layer approach (LBL) with different cationic species. The organofunctionalalkoxysilanes which were used in this study can be divided into three groups (e.g filler, surface functionalisation silanes, cross linking silanes). Depending on the nature of the organic residue the silanes are capable to introduce functionalities with enhanced hydrophobic and olephobic properties. The surface energies are investigated using contact angle method, while the surface energies are calculated using three different model approaches (OWRK, Wu, Acid-Base). The most increased hydrophobic and oleophobic properties were measured for trimethylfluorophenylsilantriol (PFTEOS). The morphology of the coated silanes is investigated using SAFRUS technique. It can be seen that nearly all silanes can be coated as homogeneous films onto different substrates (Si-wafer, SURFs, glass slides) with different methods (spin coating, solution casting). The macroscopic appearance of solution casted silanes is investigated using optical microscopy. The differences of the structural nature of the so obtained coatings and detaching films were investigated...

THEMES AND MOTIFS IN VICENZO NATALI'S MOVIE SPLICE (2009)

Opis: Vicenzo Natali’s movie Splice intertwines science fiction with real science and sends us a message of what are the possible consequences of misusing our knowledge we gain as we walk towards our future. This idea of what can happen when man plays god or uses science for his own devices, without the necessary morality and ethics, has been used and re-used many times. In my diploma paper I will explore the origins of the “Mad Scientist” theme and how Natali reworked the idea to fit it into the modern world. With it I will also show how deeply rooted and wide-spread this theme is, using other authors and works to illustrate my point. Additionally I will focus on another important theme in the movie, transformation. This theme has also been used many times before and has today transformed into many different variations; however, all of them still have the same foundations.

On a connection between the VAK, knot theory and El Naschie's theory of the mass spectrum of the high energy elementary particles

Opis: Uvedemo teorijo Cantorjevega prostor-časa. V tej teoriji je vsak delec možno interpretirati kot razcep nekega drugega. Nekateri delci so razcepni s protonom in so izraženi s ▫$phioverline{alpha_0}$▫. Če sledimo idejam El Naschieja so limitne množice Kleinove grupe Cantorjeve množice, s Haussdorffovo dimenzijo ▫$phi$▫ ali ▫$frac{1}{phi}, frac{1}{phi^2}, frac{1}{phi^3}...$▫ Z uporabo E-neskončne teorije je masni spekter elementarnih delcev, kot funkcija zlatega reza, v limitni množici Mobius-Kleinove geometrije kvantnega prostor-časa, kot je bilo obravnavano pri Dattu.

On a connection between the limit set of the Möbius-Klein transformation, periodic continued fractions, El Naschie's topological theory of high energy particle physics and the possibility of a new axion-like particle

Opis: Najprej razvijemo iracionalna števila, na primer ▫$frac{1}{phi}, frac{1}{phi^2}, frac{1}{phi^3}...$▫, v periodične verižne ulomke. Vsako iracionalno število lahko razvijemo v verižni ulomek. Limitna množica Kleinove transformacije, ki deluje na E-neskončno Cantorjevem prostor-času je množica periodičnih verižnih ulomkov, vakuum tega E-neskončno prostora je opisan s to množico. Kot je bilo opisano pri El Naschieju je vsak delec možno geometrijsko interpretirati kot razcep drugega. To je bilo napravljeno z uporabo topologije hiperboličnega Kleinovega prostora VAK-a, ki je pravzaprav naša limitna množica. Predstavimo tudi razmerja teoretičnih mas nekaterih elementarnih delcev z nekaterimi izbranimi delci. Mnoge mase so blizu celoštevilskih večkratnikov nekaterih izbranih mas delcev. Na koncu obravnavamo možnost novega delca, ki je podoben axionom in je bil že omenjen pri Kraussu in El Naschieju.

Periodic continued fraction representations of different quark's mass ratios

Opis: Najprej zapišemo nekaj izrekov o verižnih ulomkih. Kot je bilo dokazano v (Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2004; 21; 9-19) je limitna množica Kleinove transformacije, ki deluje na E-neskončno Cantorjevem prostoru, množica periodičnih verižnih ulomkov. Razvijemo vsa razmerja kvarkovih mas v periodične verižne ulomke in (po Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2004; 22; 749-752) ugotovimo, da nihajo kot poligonska črta.

Comparison of NiTi orthodontic archwires and a determination of the charasteristic properties

Opis: The aim of this paper was to analyse the characteristic properties of six different, commercially available nickel-titaniumorthodontic wires with a diameter of 0.305 mm (0.014"). The characteristic properties were determined by usingsemi-quantitative EDX analyses, DSC analyses for a determination of the phase temperatures, and a tensile test to obtain themechanical properties of the wires. The investigation of the chemical composition showed an equiatomic NiTi alloy. Analysesof phase temperatures showed that the nickel-titanium orthodontic wires were, in an austenitic microstructure, exhibiting asuperelastic effect in the oral environment. The uniaxial tensile stressstrain curves showed different values for the beginningand the end of the transformation range during the loading.

Principal space-related transformation processes demonstrated by maps of the Atlas of Eastern and Southeastern Europe
