Analysis of safety inspections on pedestrian crossings from the road lighting point of view
Matea Šepoval, 2020, magistrsko delo

Opis: In this master's thesis we will analyse traffic safety at pedestrian crossings from the lighting point of view. The focus of the work will be on Croatia and Slovenia. Accidents at pedestrian crossings are the most common forms of accidents involving pedestrians, and although these countries are equal members of the European Union, their attitude towards road users may be different. Road accidents are one of the main indicators of road safety in every country and, based on statistics, suggestions for improvement will be made. By analysing the type of pedestrian crossings and the types of street lighting, we will identify and show their weaknesses. We will first present an analysis of traffic accidents involving pedestrians for certain periods for Slovenia and Croatia. This analysis is an indicator of actual traffic conditions related to pedestrian safety and non-motorized traffic. The statistical data presented in this master’s thesis were obtained from the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia and the website of the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Road Safety, which is available with a large amount of data and analyses of traffic safety on a daily basis. Slovenian regulations clearly show the types and methods of designing pedestrian crossings, while Croatia lags behind in the details and explanations of the elements. In the end, an example of a comparison of pedestrian crossing lighting in the Republic of Croatia and Slovenia at locations in Bjelovar and Maribor will be presented. I will compare the brightness of pedestrian crossings and give an analysis of current traffic safety. Finally, solutions to improve the situation will be offered.

Comparison of criteria for road safety barrier installation in some countries of the European union
Leonid Ljubotina, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: In the master thesis we will analyze regulations which define the criterion for vehicle restraint system installment in certain countries of the European Union. We will focus mostly on Slovenia, Italia and Croatia. Even though all of the three states are members of the European Union, have common borders and the “Mediterranean” TEN corridor passes through these countries, it is possible to conclude that the passive safety equipment on the road infrastructure in those states is not harmonized. There are also big differences between the installation conditions of the traffic safety barriers and category selection of the safety barriers. Analyzing regulations regarding traffic safety barrier installation, we will try to define the differences in equipping roads with safety barriers, depending on road category, definition of black spot and the category of the safety barrier.

Introduction of the concept of "Rescue Sheet" in road traffic
Vanna Boroša, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: In this master's thesis, an analysis was made of the way fire departments operate in rescuing injured passengers from vehicles in an event of a car accident. In order to make it easier to understand the core of master's thesis, the paper defines terms such as the "golden hour", which is essential for the survival of injured passengers in a car accident. The analysis also includes information on the construction designs of the car and how the construction of the car could make it difficult for the firefighting units to operate. Some examples of interventions done by fire brigades and the problems encountered in everyday work on modern cars are also provided. In the concluding part of the thesis we have presented how fire departments can become more efficient, safer, faster, and economical in their daily work while rescuing passengers from vehicles. We have explained in more detail the notion of a “rescue sheet” and how it can be better implemented in the future. At the end of the paper, we have suggested the optimal ways of rescue sheet usage and have outlined the advantages and disadvantages of these uses.

Modeling of a geocell-reinforced pavement
Samo Peter Medved, Bojan Žlender, Stanislav Lenart, Primož Jelušič, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article details how the serviceability of a flexural pavement structure is improved by incorporating the Cellular Confinement System (geocells). For this purpose, two different pavement structures, with and without embedded geocells, were manufactured in a laboratory and an accelerated traffic type of loading was applied. The vertical and horizontal cyclic loads were applied simultaneously to simulate the effect of principal stress rotation. A comparative study between the conventional flexible pavement and the geocell-reinforced flexible pavement is presented. Additionally, numerical models of the laboratory tests were built and the results were compared. The simulation of the experimental tests using the Traffic Load Simulator (TLS) are carried out using the FEM and advanced models that describe the permanent strain behavior of the unbound granular material. The development of permanent deformation within the pavement structure, with and without the geocells, is also presented through the numerical model, which was verified by the experimental results.

Multiphase approach to developing model of logistics for coastal tourist destinations
Sanja Bauk, Željko Ivanović, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The process of urbanization of coastal tourist destinations (CTDs) is taking place at high speed and at the same time creating a lot of complex problems. The positive trend of urbanization has resulted in increased volume of freight transport which leads to burdening the traffic network, time losses and causes traffic congestion problems on the streets with increased environmental pollution due to emissions, noise and vibration. These findings brought to some research being started on the EU level, aiming to develop new logistic solutions, so these areas could be developed on a sustainable basis. With this in mind, the paper proposes a method of developing a novel model of logistics (MoL) for CTDs through several stages. The point of proposed MoL lies in achieving optimal connectivity of transportation, warehousing and physical distribution of goods, and making it a single functional model, so as to allow simultaneous optimization of logistic processes in a CTD, and to incorporate logistics in tourist offer.

Opis: Road traffic accident is one of the major causes of death in Nigeria. Road accidents have taken away so many lives in Nigeria today that hardly does any single disease match its mortality prowess. People have died prematurely and properties worth several millions of Naira have been lost as a result of road traffic accident. This paper gives a full discussion on road traffic safety issues and the methodology used were through the collection of data using questionnaire and accident information from the Nigeria Police Force, FRSC etc. The primary information for this research was sourced through the use of structured questionnaire, personal observation and interviews of road users in the study area. Secondary data emanated from published and unpublished sources such as government records, internet, journals, books etc. The findings were presented in descriptive and inferential form using frequencies, percentages, tables, mean and chi-square analytical techniques. The findings from the study revealed among many others; that Male involved more in road accident compare to female counterpart in Minna Niger State. Private car had more accident compare to Taxi, The number of accident in each zone does not depend on the population of that zone, etc.

Impact of commercial motorcycle operation on urban mobility in Ogun State, Nigeria
Oluwaseyi Joseph Afolabi, Kolawole Taofeek Gbadamosi, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The significant of public transport of cities in many developing countries lies in the fundamental fact that mobility and accessibility are essential for economic growth and of necessity to provide efficient and effective movement for goods and services. The collapse of public intra-city transport system paved way for the rise of motorcycles as means of public transportation in Nigeria. This paper discusses the impact of commercial motorcycle operation as a means of urban transportation. Of the 200 questionnaires administered, 191 questionnaires were received for analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Secondary data was also sourced to serve as complement to the primary data, thus allowing for a robust research. Descriptive statistical tools such as percentages were adopted to present the socio - economic characteristics in the area. Findings showed that the majority of the users are adult between the aged 31 and 40 years. Most of them (53.8%) are married and are fairly educated. Furthermore, it was recommended that the Nigerian government should provide employment opportunities for our teeming youth as this will go a long way in the reduction of number of youth who as a result of unemployment took to motorcycle riding business.

The challenges in new tourist destination development within the area of ecological network Natura 2000
Duško Pavlović, Mladen Knežević, Božica Radoš, 2016, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Natura 2000 is often equated with protected areas where human activities are significantly limited or even excluded in order to preserve biodiversity. However, Natura 2000 is based on other settings. Most of the activities and projects in the Natura area can be carried out with the mitigation of possible negative impacts. Sometimes they need only minor adjustments. Proposals of major development projects or changes in land use should undergo the evaluation of acceptability for the ecological network. If the assessment is positive, the procedure will be allowed if it is in the Natura area. As such, the Natura 2000 can provide new opportunities for rural areas, for example through eco-tourism and recreation. The paper will provide a SWOT analysis of micro location of building a new transport route, which is aimed at the development of new tourist destinations in the protected area.

Estimating marginal infrastructure cost in new infrastructure charging model
Marjan Sternad, Timotej Jagrič, Bojan Rosi, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Competitiveness of rail transport compared to road transport has been reducing, especially on regional railway lines. To improve this situation, the EU adopted various directives and regulations to increase efficiency of railway undertakings. In this paper we present an organizational and economic model based on European policies for local railway system. The organizational model is based on multi-criteria decision analysis. For the economic model we used an econometric approach to estimate the cost function and marginal costs in regional lines, which constitute the basis for railway charges. By implementing such an organizational model, the functioning of the railway network will improve. The research found that a change in the existing model of calculating costs of infrastructure use would bring economic effects for the railway infrastructure manager and the providers of transport. Using the proposed model we also found that it is reasonable to increase the flow of goods on unused regional railway lines because the railway infrastructure maintenance costs are inelastic with regard to transported gross tons.
