The ecological motivation or tourists as a determinant of the tourists' loyalty
Majda Bastič, Slavka Gojčič, 2011, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Despite the significant impact of environment on the attractiveness of tourist destination, environmental stewardship is not always the top priority in the hotel industry as one of the most energy-intensive sectors of the tourism industry which contributes to the increasing quantity of air pollutants. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of ecological pull motives and service quality on the tourists' loyalty to eco-hotels. The tourists spent their holidays in Austrian hotels with ecolabel and in Slovenian hotels were targeted and a total of 611 tourists participated in the study. The study reveals that the perceived service quality and ecobehaviour of hotel staff are the main determinants of the tourists' loyalty. The comparison analysis between Austrian and Slovenian hotels indicates that the guests of Austrian hotels with ecolabel are more loyal and ecologically motivated than guests of Slovenian hotels without ecolabel.

Translation Mistakes in Bilingual Tourism Signs
Pija Kristan, 2012, diplomsko delo

Opis: The aim of this thesis was to analyze the language in bilingual tourism signs and tourist maps in Maribor and Ljubljana. Indicative and suggestive bilingual tourism signs were examined, as well as tourist maps found at public places and popular tourist spots. I investigated what kind of translation difficulties, mistranslations, language mistakes, and inconsistencies occur when translating tourism signs and tourist maps from Slovene into English. The theoretical part of the thesis covers the general area of tourism, the characteristics of tourism texts and tourism signs, and the characteristics of translating tourism texts and tourism signs in particular. The empirical part represents an analysis of the concrete translation difficulties found on tourism signs and tourist maps. The translation difficulties are pointed out, and suggestions for improvement are stated. The results of the analysis show that translation difficulties were found in many areas. In the area of spelling, misspellings, the use of abbreviations, and the inconsistent use of British or American English posed a problem. Regarding punctuation, translators had difficulties with the proper use of hyphens, strokes, and grave accents. In the area of grammar, inconsistencies and errors with the use of word order, capitalization, articles, and prepositions were noticed. In semantics, some information was omitted in translations, and meaning was not retained at a suitable level. The level of formality appeared too low in some instances as well, and inconsistencies in terms of using several different translations for the same source term were common.

THE EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE EVENT ON THE CITY OF MARIBOR AND THE CITY OF GUIMARÃES
Nastja Sušec, 2015, magistrsko delo

Opis: The European Capital of Culture (ECoC) is a title designated to a European city for a duration of one year, when it can present itself and its cultural life regionally, nationally and internationally. The origin of ECoC goes back in 1983 when then Greek Minister of Culture Melina Mercouri aimed to »bring the people of the Member States closer together« and to »highlight the richness and diversity of European cultures«. Since then over fifty European cities have taken the advantage and held the ECoC title, which has overgrown the original purpose and became today the most established EU’s cultural initiative. This Master’s Thesis discusses Maribor and Guimarães as the host cities of the ECoC 2012 event. The Master’s Thesis considers the ECoC event as a whole and provides a systematic review of the literature on the European cultural policy and on the development of the ECoC, as well as the evaluation of the ECoC in 2012. Therefore, the Master’s Thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part and briefly presented further in this Abstract. The theoretical part first outlines the origins, purpose and definition of the European Cultural Policy. It traces the development of the European Cultural Programme, particularly the legislative and the flagship programme of the ECoC. This part is then followed by the presentation of culture’s incorporation into the EU’s objectives and the creation of the European cultural space. The second chapter highlights the ECoC event and presents the past ECoC cities from historical perspective and by their particularity. Maribor and Guimarães, as the ECoC 2012 cities, are also presented in detail, from the perspectives of the socio-economic indicators of the cities and the ECoC 2012 event. The next chapters provide a wider discussion on the relationship among the culture and economy. Previous empirical studies have identified the impacts of the ECoC event on the city’s economy. Additionally, cities are increasingly using cultural events to improve their image, stimulate urban development and attract visitors. Moreover, the ECoC event attracts great media attention. This Master’s Thesis examines the role of such event for tourism, as well as its cultural and promotion effects. In order to determine the effects of the ECoC event on the cities hosting the title in 2012, a comparison analysis of the indicators was performed and the quantitative analysis by the AHP method was undertaken in the empirical part. An evaluation model was formed, in which nine indicators were used to evaluate the effects of the 2012 event on the city’s tourism, culture and recognition. On the basis of this Master’s Thesis research we confirmed the hypothesis H2 and rejected the hypotheses H1, H3 and H4. We concluded that Guimarães as the ECoC 2012 achieved more favourable results than Maribor with its partner cities almost in all effects; Maribor was better than Guimarães only as regards the effects on the city’s culture. In the last chapter the conclusions and the recommendations for the future are drawn. The results of the Master’s Thesis are applicable for institutions that form development strategies, institutions that develop tourist and cultural offer in Maribor and Guimarães and for cities that will host the ECoC event in the future. The research findings are also applicable for the European Commission and general public.

A Multi-criteria assesment of tourist farm service quality
Črtomir Rozman, Majda Potočnik, Karmen Pažek, Andreja Borec, Darja Majkovič, Marko Bohanec, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Farm tourism is a significant means of supplementing farmer's incomes. This paper presents a methodology for ranking tourist farms by using a multi-criteria model based on the qualitative multi-criteria modeling methodology, DEX, to assess service quality. The software tool DEXi was used to achieve this end. The model was then applied to seven tourist farms with data derived from questionnaires completed by tourist farm operators and guests. The results are shown as service quality assessments for individual farms. The potential of the model for assessing the farms is demonstrated with the aim of providing a comprehensive explantation and justification of the assessment technique. It also indicates potential improvements that farms can make through "what-if" analysis and visualisation. Despite limitations, such as use of qualitative data only, the approach is proposed as being both appropriate and advantageous when compared with other means of ranking enterprises.

The influence of tourism on the development of the Rogaška Slatina health resort

Opredeljene so posamezne funkcijske cone v Rogaški Slatini, zlasti tiste, v katerih sta turizem in rekreacija poglavitni obliki rabe prostora.
