Okoljski odtis nekaterih poljščin in zelenjadnic v različnih pridelovalnih sistemih

Opis: Intenzivno industrijsko kmetijstvo kot drugi največji onesnaževalec okolja je vedno bolj podvržen pritisku javnosti, ki zahteva trajnosten način kmetijske pridelave. Indikatorjev za oceno trajnosti pridelovalnega sistema (PS) kot celote ni. Cilj diplomskega dela je bil zasnova ter ocenitev orodja za vrednotenje trajnosti pridelave poljščin (pšenica, pira in oljne buče) in zelenjadnic (zelje in rdeča pesa) v štirih PS (konvencionalni — KON, integrirani — INT, ekološki — EKO in biološko dinamični — BD), s podatki poljskega poskusa na FKBV v sezoni 2008. Sustainable Process Index ® (SPI) za kmetijstvo preračuna okoljski odtis vseh direktnih in indirektnih porabljenih osnovnih sredstev tekom pridelave v m2. Analiza je pokazala, da so razlike med PS velike, delni rezultati okoljskega odtisa nakazujejo na mesta potrebna izboljšav tekom pridelave. Okojski odtis je bil pri vseh opazovanih kulturnih rastlinah največji v KON (skupno 3.005.108,9 m2) in najmanjši pri kontrolnem (642.906,2 m2), referenčnem PS. Največji okoljski odtis je imela pšenica v KON (792.646,8 m2) in najmanjši oljne buče v kontrolnem (113.334,7 m2) PS. Izračunan indeks okoljske učinkovitosti (okoljski odtis na enoto pridelka — kg) je trend SPI v večini potrdil. SPI je dobro in dostopno orodje za prikaz trajnosti in pomanjkljivosti PS tako za pridelovalce, javnost kot akterje politike.

Engineering education: environmental and chemical engineering or technology curricula - a European perspective

Opis: Over recent years, universities have been incorporating sustainable development (SD) into their systems, including their curricula. This article analyses the incorporation of SD into the curricula of chemical and environmental engineering or technology bachelor degrees at universities in the European Union (EU) and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) states. Available textbooks of some courses were analysed regarding their content and pedagogical-didactical perspectives based on a revised Bloom's taxonomy of cognitive domains. The research showed that both the universities and textbooks reviewed have room for improvement regarding SD incorporation into their curricula.

Sustainability engineering education

Opis: University sustainability education programmes in several European countries and the US have been compared to find common characteristics of the curricula in environmental science and engineering programmes. In particular, chemical engineering and applied chemistry departments have been focused here. Small, innovative European countries (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland) have been in fore front. In bigger countries (France, Great Britain, Spain, and the US) programmes from some of the top 100 universities in Europe and the Americas have been considered, three from each country and seven from the US. The frequency of the courses in various groups and typical course titles are shown within each group. Evolution from pollution prevention courses to sustainability subjects is observed. The most employed textbooks are also provided.

The sustainable university as a system: The case of the University of Maribor

Opis: This paper deals with the university as an institution that responds to global problems, using creative, real-world problem solving, based on "learningby doing". Sustainability-oriented problem solving at the university require new approaches, based on interconnection and collaboration within a system (university) and with other systems (municipality, enterprises). The University of Maribor has been used as a case study to explore management changes and curricula improvements, based on the principles of communitarianism and improved ways of communication within the university.

The overall objectives are: the development and implementation of new, reliable, cost-effective technologies, tools and methods for sustainable water supply, use and discharge in the main water consuming industries in order to significantly reduce water use, mitigate environmental impact and produce and apply water qualities in accordance with industrial own specifications (fit - for - use) from all possible sources, and contributing to a far-going closure of the water cycle in a economical, sustainable and safe way while improving their product quality and process stability.
