Reviewing the narrative concerning the impact of population growth in Africa
Cocou Marius Mensah, 2019, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article discusses the topic of population growth in Africa, a recurring theme in the era of climate change and the fight against CO2 emissions. The African continent is full of essential raw materials and encompasses the youngest population in the world. There is no doubt concerning the significant role it will play in global affairs, at a time when the world population is ageing, according to the UN statistics. In recent years, many policymakers have highlighted the necessity to deal with overpopulation, provoking moral controversial and basic human rights abuses. This article, however, proposes an opposite argumentation based on fresh data and emphasises the opportunities and challenges to take on, as the author considers "overpopulation" as more of a challenge than a sentence to underdevelopment. Though the paper mentions different issues linked to overpopulation, such as migration crisis, ecological sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, it concludes with a reminder of the importance of international cooperation as a solution to global issues.

The development of sustainable mobility plan (SUMP), example for city of Sinj, Croatia
Anđelo Marunica, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) is an innovative way of planning urban traffic in order to meet the needs of citizens in a sustainable way. Unlike the traditional approach to traffic planning, SUMP places a special emphasis on citizen and other stakeholders involvement and participation, in which different decisions regarding various sectors such as traffic, spatial planning, economic development, social activities, health, safety, energy, etc. are coordinated . The SUMP concept for the city of Sinj proposes 30 measures compiled in 6 themed packages, which are expected to greatly improve the quality of traffic in the city, in addition to reducing air pollution and improving the quality of life for residents of Sinj, while simultaneously, to a certain extent, stimulating economic growth and reversing demographic decline which is currently affecting the municipality of Sinj.

Sustainability
Borut Jereb, Matjaž Knez, Darja Kukovič, Tina Cvahte, Matevž Obrecht, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: Sustainable development aims to optimize the balance between economic, social and environmental objectives. Sustainable thinking reflects concerns about the long-term risks posed by the current consumption of resources, taking into account the objectives of intergenerational justice. This is clearly defined in the detailed definition of sustainable development by WCED (1987): "in essence, sustainable development is not a particular state of harmony, but rather a process of change in which the exploitation of resources, direction of investments, the orientation of technological investment and institutional changes are in harmony, in order to enhance the current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations." The starting point is given by the economic and social development that meets human needs and desires, but also takes into account the natural resource base and social justice.

Theoretical scope of EM and sustainability
Marina Zhuravskaya, Elena Morozova, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: It is no secret that the amount of accumulated waste in Russia today is about 90 billion tons. And the situation is that distinct economic incentives for integrated waste management just do not exist (http://kn51.ru/news/society/ecology/2013/5/02/ekologiya-kak-indikator-zrelosti-obshchestva.html). Many people believe that there are only two ways of development: go back to primitive society or go forward to the inevitable destruction of the environment. However, there is an alternative that combines the preservation of the environment and social well-being – it is the concept of sustainable development.

Multiphase approach to developing model of logistics for coastal tourist destinations
Sanja Bauk, Željko Ivanović, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The process of urbanization of coastal tourist destinations (CTDs) is taking place at high speed and at the same time creating a lot of complex problems. The positive trend of urbanization has resulted in increased volume of freight transport which leads to burdening the traffic network, time losses and causes traffic congestion problems on the streets with increased environmental pollution due to emissions, noise and vibration. These findings brought to some research being started on the EU level, aiming to develop new logistic solutions, so these areas could be developed on a sustainable basis. With this in mind, the paper proposes a method of developing a novel model of logistics (MoL) for CTDs through several stages. The point of proposed MoL lies in achieving optimal connectivity of transportation, warehousing and physical distribution of goods, and making it a single functional model, so as to allow simultaneous optimization of logistic processes in a CTD, and to incorporate logistics in tourist offer.

Olga Baranyai, Gábor Baranyai, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main challenge in rural areas currently is facing migration and unemployment. Inhabitants of the traditional Őrség region also face this serious problem. The aim of this paper is to reveal problems in the region highlighting the two pillars of local rural development solutions; the current situation and opportunities for tourism and agriculture development. The opinion of local inhabitants acquired through questionnaires bare a special role in this search for solutions. Livestock revolution and its impacts on the sustainability of marginal and small farmers in India
Nizamuddin Khan, Asif Iqubal, 2010, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Livestock husbandry is an important segment of Indian agriculture. Its share of contribution to agricultural gross products has increased since the implementation of the globalization of agricultural trade. Livestock revolution has occurred not only in India, but in all tropical deve- loping countries, owing to recently increasing demand for animal-derived products in national and international markets. We selected Aligarh, a micro geographical unit from the Upper Ganga plain of Uttar Pradesh for this study. 600 households from 12 villages in the area were surveyed for collection of data. The study revealed that the region witnessed growth in livestock husbandry with selected species during 1993-1994 to 2003-2004. Buffalo and goats showed a positive change due to enhancement in the demand of milk and meat on account of increasing urban consumers, liberalization of agri-business and the changing of food habits over the decades. Cattle numbers have contracted owing to the mechanization of agriculture and the prohibition of cow slaughter in the country. Two thirds of livestock keepers, workers and beneficiaries are poor farmers with less than 3 hectares of land holding. The majority of them follow the livestock-cropping integrated farming system, which is highly beneficial rather than rearing livestock exclusively. Livestock husbandry is an economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sustainable farming system in the study area of the Aligarh district.
