Nearest neighbor permutation entropy detects phase transitions in complex high-pressure systems
Arthur A. B. Pessa, Leonardo G. J. M. Voltarelli, Lúcio Cardozo-Filho, Andres G. M. Tamara, Claudio Dariva, Papa M. Ndiaye, Matjaž Perc, Haroldo V. Ribeiro, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Understanding the high-pressure phase behavior of carbon dioxide-hydrocarbon mixtures is of considerable interest owing to their wide range of applications. Under certain conditions, these systems are not amenable to direct visual monitoring, and experimentalists often rely on spectrophotometric data to infer phase behavior. Consequently, developing computationally efficient and robust methods to leverage such data is crucial. Here, we combine nearest neighbor permutation entropy, computed directly from in situ near-infrared absorbance spectra acquired during depressurization trials of mixtures of carbon dioxide and a distilled petroleum fraction, with an anomaly detection approach to identify phase transitions. We show that changes in nearest neighbor entropy effectively signal transitions from initially homogeneous mixtures to two-phase equilibria, thereby enabling accurate out-of-sample online predictions of transition pressures. Our approach requires minimum data preprocessing, no specialized detection techniques or visual inspection of the spectra, and is sufficiently general to be adapted for studying phase behavior in other high-pressure systems monitored via spectrophotometry.

Survival camps in nature as a form of social skills training
Matej Vukovič, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper presents survival camps in nature as a form of social skills training. The camps are aimed primarily at adolescents with behavioural and emotional difficulties. They comprise many everyday social skills where both the group and the individual in the group are important. Social skills are among the many skills we teach in survival camps. Participants become acquainted with the content, methods and skills, and they strengthen the competences that help them to better integrate and function in the society. We shall present to what extent and in what way the social skills of young people are strengthened at survival camps, how young people gain vital experiences and competences and develop their potential.

The meaning of radicalisation in modern social pedagogy
Ana Bogdan Zupančič, 2021, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The article defines radicalisation as part of the processes of modern liberation, which are recognised in the interlacement of emancipatory potential in social pedagogy and mobilisation in the theory of community development. In parallel to this, we problematise the internally divided socio-pedagogical attitude, which, on the one hand, seeks to liberate, and on the other hand, is repeatedly caught in the preservation of existing "oppressive" power relations. In doing so, we consider the concerns regarding political action as the goal of "radicalising" social pedagogy, which indicate that in social pedagogy we have internalized collaboration as a democratic "norm" of solving social and other societal issues and thus accepted it as the only formally realistic option to achieve structural change.

Caring for the elderly and working with the aging population
Andrej Berdajs, 2021

Opis: Older people receive care and assistance in both formal and informal ways. About 4% of people aged over 65 are living in institutional care. Most of the help is provided by families and other informal carers. We must arrange assistance for informal carers and direct the care not only to the medical aspect but also to the social component. The social care component helps vulnerable older people to overcome the crisis caused by exclusion from their environment and reduction in their social network. This is an important opportunity for social pedagogical work, either in various institutions or through.

Adaptive rumor propagation and activity contagion in higher-order networks
Yafang Dong, Liang'an Huo, Matjaž Perc, Stefano Boccaletti, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Rumors in social systems are omnipresent. While traditional models focus on pairwise interactions, the collective effects of group interactions are insufficiently explored. Here we present a rumor propagation model on higher-order networks that incorporates 2-simplex structures and adaptive transitions between active and passive individuals. We find that higher-order networks substantially lower the propagation threshold and intensify nonlinear spreading effects. Active individuals are key drivers of rumor propagation and persistence. With active contagion, we observe that higher-order propagation increases peak and steady-state densities of active spreaders, thus extending the propagation and lifespan of rumors. We also apply a sequential quadratic programming algorithm to optimize the parameters of our model and validate its accuracy and applicability on real-world data. These results advance our understanding of contagion in higher-order social networks and support the design of targeted strategies for rumor mitigation.

Through the looking glass : methodological features of research of alternative schools
Snježana Dubovicki, Tomislav Topolovčan, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: On the basis of the analysis of the general characteristics of alternative schools and the methodology of pedagogical research, the comparison and synthesis of the obtained facts were formed. It is pointed out that in the field of pedagogy, the adoption of (positivist) methodology has become a global trend. It emphasizes the uncritical application of research tools from the corpus of quantitative methodology in research of specific educational problems, as well as in research of alternative schools in which the context of the research is significantly different than the one of the conventional public schools.

Analysis of the use of social media components on Serbian hotels’ websites
Dragana Ćamilović, Snežana Konjikušić, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The research presented in this paper aims to determine to what extent hotels in Serbia use social media components on their websites. A total of 378 hotel websites in the Republic of Serbia were analysed. For each analysed hotel, the following attributes were observed: region, category, type, and size of the establishment, while the presence of valid links to social networks, the presence of a blog, Google Map, or a link to it, and the number of versions of the site in a foreign language were analysed on their websites. Descriptive statistics and the chisquare test were applied in data processing. The research has shown that hotels in Serbia insufficiently use social media components on their websites. These findings can be useful for hotels as they may indicate ways to improve their websites.

Analysis of workers’ perception and demographic factors : an insight into the Slovenian gig economy
Matevž Antloga, Ivona Huđek, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study examines the gig economy in Slovenia, with a particular emphasis on the perceived benefits and challenges for gig workers within this emerging labour model. The research aims to capture the implications of flexible, project-based employment in a smaller European context, as this trend becomes increasingly prevalent globally. A quantitative approach was employed to survey 34 gig workers in Slovenia. The survey analysed their demographic characteristics, reasons for engaging in gig work, and the benefits and challenges they experience. In the findings, 64% of respondents specifically identified schedule flexibility as a predominant benefit of gig work. However, it also uncovers substantial challenges, including increased market competition and a lack of social benefits. Moreover, the research suggests that perceptions of the gig work benefits are widely acknowledged across various age groups and educational levels, with no significant variation. Nevertheless, the findings indicate a gender disparity in gig work perceptions, with males perceiving higher levels of financial freedom and professional development than women. This research suggests the need for policies aimed at ensuring equity and further research into harmonizing gig work with supportive labour market policies.

Structural roles and gender disparities in corruption networks
Arthur A. B. Pessa, Alvaro F. Martins, Mônica V. Prates, Sebastián Gonçalves, Cristina Masoller, Matjaž Perc, Haroldo V. Ribeiro, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Criminal activities are predominantly due to males, with females exhibiting a significantly lower involvement, especially in serious offenses. This pattern extends to organized crime, where females are often perceived as less tolerant to illegal practices. However, the roles of males and females within corruption networks are less understood. Here, we analyze data from political scandals in Brazil and Spain to shed light on gender differences in corruption networks. Our findings reveal that females constitute 10% and 20% of all agents in the Brazilian and Spanish corruption networks, respectively, with these proportions remaining stable over time and across different scandal sizes. Despite this disparity in representation, centrality measures are comparable between genders, except among highly central individuals, for which males are further overrepresented. Additionally, gender has no significant impact on network resilience, whether through random dismantling or targeted attacks on the largest component. Males are more likely to be involved in multiple scandals than females, and scandals predominantly involving females are rare, though these differences are explained by a null network model in which gender is randomly assigned while maintaining gender proportions. Our results further reveal that the underrepresentation of females partially explains gender homophily in network associations, although in the Spanish network, male-to-male connections exceed expectations derived from a null model.

Software self-hosting : a systematic review of quantitative research☆
Luka Hrgarek, Lili Nemec Zlatolas, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In an era marked by heightened concerns surrounding personal privacy and data security, software self-hosting has gained significance as a means for individuals and organizations to reclaim control over their digital assets. This systematic review aims to identify relevant research gaps in the quantitative analysis of self-hosting, primarily focusing on studies employing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and regression techniques. Employing a refined version of the Systematic Mapping Process, we analyzed 49 quantitative research papers whose concepts were grouped into 12 substantive groups. The findings reveal a predominant concentration on constructs related to the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), with limited exploration of self-hosting specifically, overshadowed by an emphasis on cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and privacy aspects. Our review provides a comprehensive overview of the existing literature and highlights the need for more focused research on self-hosting itself. This systematic review serves as a foundational resource for researchers and practitioners aimed at advancing the discourse on self-hosting.
