Numerical simulation of intact rock behaviour via the continuum and Voronoi tesselletion models
Teja Fabjan, Diego Mas Ivars, Vladimir Vukadin, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The numerical simulation of intact rock microstructure and its influence on macro-scale behaviour has received a lot of attention in the research community in recent years. Generating a grain-like structure with polygonal area contacts is one of the avenues explored for describing the rock’s microstructure. A Voronoi tessellation implemented in the Universal Distinct-Element Code (UDEC) is used to generate models with a polygonal microstructure that represent intact rock. The mechanical behaviour of the Voronoi polygons is defined by micro-properties, which cannot be measured directly in the laboratory. A numerical calibration procedure is needed to produce the macroscopic response of a model that corresponds to the material behaviour measured during a laboratory experiment. In this research, Brazilian, direct tensile, uniaxial compressive and biaxial test models are constructed to simulate the intact rock behaviour under a standard laboratory stress. An extensive series of parametric sensitivity analyses are executed in order to understand the influence of the input micro-properties on every model test behaviour and predict the relation between the micro-properties and the model’s macro response. The results can be treated as general guidelines for a complete and efficient intact rock calibration procedure. In parallel, a continuum-based model using the Mohr-Coulomb constitutive relationship is running as a benchmark. It has been shown that the Voronoi-based models through their microstructure approach better reproduce the Brazilian to direct tensile strength ratio, and show a better representation of the dilation, crack pattern and post-peak behaviour in comparison to continuum models.

Investment-cash flow sensitivity
Mahdi Salehi, Ali Mohammadi, Parisa Taherzadeh Esfahani, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The main objective of the current study is to examine the effect of audit report on cash-flow investment sensitivity of 123 listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) during 2006-2010. Regression analysis and synthetic data were used for data analysis. The results showed that receiving modified report has a significant negative effect on cash flow-investment sensitivity. The findings also suggest the significant effect of receiving qualified report and unqualified report with explanatory paragraphs on cash flow-investment sensitivity.

Tracking without concessions?
Danilo Šuster, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the first, shorter part of the paper I point out some problems and potential misunderstandings connected with B. Berčić's treatment of Nozick's sensitivity condition for knowledge. In the second part of the paper I offer the condition of modal stability or limited sensitivity as a revision of Nozickian conditions for non-accidental connection between our belief and the truth of our belief. "When it is seriously possible for you to falsely believe that p", that is a goodreason for denying that you know that p. Sensitivity within limits requires that we consider more possible worlds (all within a sphere of serious or relevant possibilities) than classical sensitivity, but not the worlds outside this sphere. The idea of modal stability combines robustness (benefits of safety) with responsiveness to facts (benefits of sensitivity).

A sensitivity model and repeatability of recipe colour
Boris Sluban, Olivera Šauperl, 2001, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The paper briefly describes a mathematical model of the colorant mixture colour sensitivity to concentration errors and the numerical estimates of the related quantities. Features of the theoretical model are illustrated with the results of a number of numerical experiments in which the optical data of a few basic dyes applied to textile fabric were used to predict the sensitivities of recipes for sets of target colours spaced regularly in the colour solid. The rest of the article deals with the question whether the predicted values of recipe colour sensitivity provide useful information about the repeatability of recipe colour. The results of a few groups of laboratory experiments involving the textile fabric dyeing with basic dyes have been analysed with this question in mind.

Calcium dependencies of regulated exocytosis in different endocrine cells
Jurij Dolenšek, Maša Skelin, Marjan Rupnik, 2011, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Exocytotic machinery in neuronal and endocrine tissues is sensitive to changesin intracellular Ca2+ concentration. Endocrine cell models, that are most frequently used to study the mechanisms of regulated exocytosis, are pancreatic beta cells, adrenal chromaffin cells and pituitary cells. To reliably study the Ca2+ sensitivity in endocrine cells, accurate and fast determination of Ca2+ dependence in each tested cell is required. With slow photo-release it is possible to induce ramp-like increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) that leads to a robust exocytotic activity. Slow increases in the [Ca2+]i revealed exocytotic phases with different Ca2+ sensitivities that have been largely masked in step-like flash photo-release experiments. Strikingly, in the cells of the three described model endocrine tissues (beta, chromaffin and melanotroph cells), distinct Ca2+ sensitivity ćclassesć of secretory vesicles have been observed: a highly Ca2+-sensitive, amedium Ca2+-sensitive and a low Ca2+- sensitive kinetic phase of secretory vesicle exocytosis. We discuss that a physiological modulation of a cellular activity, e.g. by activating cAMP/PKA transduction pathway, can switch the secretory vesicles between Ca2+ sensitivity classes. This significantly alterslate steps in the secretory release of hormones even without utilizationof an additional Ca2+ sensor protein.

Different measures of sensitivity of recipe colour to random and proportional dye concentration error
Boris Sluban, Olivera Šauperl, Mihaela Pozderec, 2007, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The essential question of the paper "Can the predicted sensitivity to random and/or proportional dye concentration errors assist in selecting the most repeatable recipes?" was investigated using the laboratory dyeing of acrylic fabric with basic dyes. When the dye strength errors were not involved, the biggest scattering of the recipe colour in repeated dyeings was observed in the cases of light neutral target colours, where the predicted sensitivity to random concentration errors was the highest. For a few low-saturated targets, eight recipes with different predicted sensitivities to random errors were treated. In six cases out of the seven treated, those recipes less sensitive to random concentration errors generally performed better than the more sensitive ones, but the correlation was rather weak. For those cases whenthe dye strength errors were included, experiments were also carried out with several different recipes for a neutral medium-lightness target colour.

Different measures of sensitivity of recipe colour to random and proportional dye concentration error
Boris Sluban, Olivera Šauperl, 2005, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A regularity of the predicted sensitivities to random and proportional dye concentration errors in regard to the position of target colour has been observed for the case of dyeing acrylic with basic dyes. The sensitivity of the recipe colour to random dye concentration errors is highest for light neutral target colours and is almost negligible for dark-shade recipes. Recipes for less saturated targets are slightly more sensitive than recipes for more saturated targets of equal lightness. The span of the sensitivities to weighing error of the recipes matching a given target varies with the position of the target in colour space. By contrast, the sensitivity of recipes to dye strength error is the highest at medium to low lightness for neutral and near neutral target shades. The span of sensitivities of the recipes for any such particular target is broad, with some having low sensitivity to strength errors. Recipes for the target colours at the "lighter" part of the gamut border were the least sensitive to strength errors.

The total colorant sensitivity of a color matching recipe : an approach to colorant weighting and tinctorial strength errors
Shahram Peyvandi, Seyed Hossein Amirshahi, Boris Sluban, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The repeatability of the recipe color can be affected by several different types of inevitable inaccuracies in the coloration process. Two of the major causes of poor target-color reproducibility are the (random) weighing and (proportional) strength errors. This article describes alternative definitions of colorant strength sensitivity and total colorant sensitivity of a dyeing recipe. The influences of the maximal colorant weighing and strength errors are taken into account in order to bring the magnitudes of the two treated types of sensitivity into a mutually realistic balance between each other. The quantifications of precision and accuracy of a color matching recipe are also developed and combined into a single-number measure of recipe quality. The listed quantities are expected to be useful in selecting the most reliable one(s) among the different formulations for the same standard color. The methods are presented for calculating numerical estimates of the newly introduced quantities. The precision and accuracy of the coloration process are investigated in laboratory experiments involving repeated dyeings.
