1. Is there a relationship between self-enhancement, conservation and personal tax culture?Aleksandra Hlastec, Damijan Mumel, Lidija Hauptman, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Sustainability gets higher on the policy agenda of many countries in terms of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Unethical tax behaviour diminishes the tax system’s sustainability, but paying taxes is necessary if we want to contribute to society. There is a deeper need to understand the factors that influence taxpayers’ perceptions, personal values and personal tax culture. Previous research by the OECD (2013, 2019) using the World Values Survey (WVS) did not provide a sufficient explanation of all the socio-economic factors associated with personal tax culture. As the behaviour of an individual is shaped by a set of values, and values can provide predictive and explanatory power in the analysis of attitudes, opinions and actions by policymakers, it is necessary for them to understand such when proposing tax morale incentives within the institutional pillar. A literature review showed that the research topics on personal tax culture present specific assumptions and gaps. To contribute to this topic, a conceptual model was developed, and the relationship between personal values (conservation/self-enhancement), measured by the widely accepted and recognised Schwartz’s circular model, and personal tax culture was analysed with the aim of formulating recommendations for policymakers. The survey conducted in Slovenia involved 202 respondents. Based on exploratory factor analysis and the performed correlation analysis, empirical research suggests that a relationship between personal values and personal tax culture as the cornerstones of an individual’s tax-compliant behaviour and their attitude towards the ethics of tax evasion is significant. The correlation between personal values and an individual’s attitude towards the tax system is insignificant. By understanding the relationships between individuals’ personal and tax culture values, policymakers can achieve a greater sustainable tax system. 2. The role of logistics in performance managementMimo Drašković, 2016, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: Apart from the proven and significant role of logistics in integrating marketing and management systems of a company, the position on the connection between the logistics and institutional (top) level of a business strategy in contemporary literature and business practice is being acknowledged. The mentioned position implies the implementation of performance management. In this way, the earlier opinion and praxis of connecting logistics with operations and provisional functioning in the area concerning a degree of integrations of business functions are being surpassed. The relationship between performance management and logistics can be considered from two aspects: a) role of logistics in enhancement of performance management and b) roles of measuring and analysis in enhancing the logistics performances themselves. This paper explains the mentioned dual relationship through the prism of acquirement of key competences and competitive advantages of an organization through enhancement of certain performances. 3. Young pedagogical centre with extensive experience and knowledgeBoris Aberšek, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The contributions gathered in this publication have been prepared within the framework of the Pedagogical Center (PC) of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (FNM) at the University of Maribor, which might seem to be a young center since it has only been established in 2009, nevertheless, the extensive experience and knowledge of its faculty tell a story of a much more established institution. “Pedagogical” is a defining term indicting that the center's activities are focused primarily on pedagogical programmes at FNM and on educating teachers at all levels in the broadest sense of the word.
Pedagogical center FNM is a pedagogical research unit, that supports all natural science, mathematical and technology programmes at both the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, as well as the entire University of Maribor, especially the teaching programmes, since after the separation of the large Faculty of Education into three entities - FNM being one of them - its “colour” as well as educational and historical core have been lost. Teacher education at FNM lost previous value and has become much less emphasised than it was the case with its predecessor institution the Faculty of Education. Thus the main aim of the center is to give back to the faculty a part of its previous “colour” as well as to promote and develop educational sciences and their interdisciplinary integration that will certainly mean a step towards guaranteeing quality of work as well as quality of education for all students. 4. From the experiences of recent years, it seems clear that the existing education system in Slovenia. as a whole, is perceived as an ailing system that fails to meet the needs of a major portion of the society it serves. 5. Suggestopedia - a theoretical approach to understanding its principles and reasons for its use in practiceAndrej Karner, 2016, diplomsko delo Opis: Suggestopedia is a teaching method, originally developed by psychiatrist Dr. Georgi Lozanov, the foundations of which are built upon the knowledge of psychology, neurology and linguistics.
By combining the knowledge of suggestology, medical facts and well-established psychological effects, Lozanov attempted to reconcile various aspects of this knowledge by their systematic and strategic integration. This has been achieved by using suggestion as a common denominator, and creating the carefully coordinated “set-up” (preparation of the classroom and the students) which would then make tapping into the “hidden reserves” of our brain possible.
Lozanov argues that these reserve capacities, although present, are normally more or less inhibited by parasitic conscious and subconscious thought processes, which he calls barriers, and that it is critical to discard or override, i.e. de-suggest them, and then suggest new standards prior to any language teaching. Hence, this involves the process of suggesting as well as the process of de-suggesting, i.e. erasing negative ideas by setting and anchoring positive ones.
In every-day life, language (mother tongue or foreign language) is by far more dependent on subconscious processes (automaticity) than on conscious ones. In fact, it is believed that about 95% of the language acquisition happens by employing these subconscious mechanisms. And this is believed to give us fluency and grammatical accuracy at the same time.
Since it makes sense that the acquisition of knowledge should follow the principle of economy and efficiency, and, at the same time, should have a solid scientific support, the fact that suggestopedia, in addition to employing various types of suggestions, also makes use of almost all known beneficial psychological effects found in humans makes this method rather scientifically plausible.
In Slovenian elementary schools suggestopedia did not establish itself either as the principal or alternative teaching method. One definitive reason for this situation is that the method is almost unknown. The other reason lies in the lack of appropriate (suggestopedic) teacher training which is mainly due to the first reason.
In terms of suggestopedia being applied as an alternative teaching method in Slovenian elementary schools, although a fair amount of mistrust towards the effectiveness of the method has been revealed, the general attitude of the teachers toward suggestopedia, nevertheless, is not negative or reluctive, but rather positive and embracive, and there is a general consensus that suggestopedia is an acceptable alternative to the standard way of teaching. 6. Automated fingerprint identification system application for system's equal error rate evaluationMarko Kočevar, Zdravko Kačič, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Automated fingerprint identification system has an increasingly important rolein modern times. This study presents the steps of the automated fingerprint identification system and presents an application for fingerprint identification and system's equal error rate evaluation. The algorithm for fingerprint image enhancement is a key element of the system. A fingerprint image can be damaged, damp, too dry, worn, scratched, etc. Therefore it is necessary to enhance the image to the point where we can obtain a clearly defined structure of ridges and valleys and consequently also correctly determined features. This study also presents a comparison of error rate evaluation between the original fingerprint image and the enhanced fingerprintimage, and introduces an application for fingerprint matching. The matching algorithm compares two fingerprints and establishes a correct match, if the fingerprints belong to the same person, or a non-match, if they belong to different persons. 7. Efficiency analysis of compared normalization methods for fingerprint image enhancementMarko Kočevar, Zdravko Kačič, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The efficiency of automated fingerprint identification system depends highly on fingerprint image enhancement algorithms. Fingerprint image enhancement canbe divided into two stages: 1) At the first stage we enhance the image withconventional filters, where filter parameters do not change. 2) At the second stage we enhance the structure of ridges and valleys with contextual filters, where filter parameters change according to pre-calculated ridge orientation and frequency. This article presents an efficiency analysis of compared methods at the first stage with global normalization, local normalization and block local normalization, attempts to find the most efficient combination and evaluates the effectiveness of analysed methods fromthe perspective of their use in real time fingerprint identification systems. In the experimental part we compared three different types of normalization algorithms for enhancing image contrast, and then in combinationwith the second enhancement stage (Gabor filter and STFT) we assessed the enhancement system's effectiveness on database FVC2004.
