International Scientific Conference »Research and Education in Nursing

Opis: University of Maribor Faculty of Health Sciences is organizing the Online International Scientific Conference »Research and Education in Nursing«. It will be held on September 29th 2020 at the faculty and e-proceedings of the conference will include most recent findings of domestic and foreign researchers and students in nursing and health sciences. The conference aims to explore advances in nursing research and education and it is intended for knowledge and experience exchange of participants about the impact of research on health care in Slovenian and international arena. It will provide an opportunity to promote the development, dissemination and use of knowledge in the field of nursing and health sciences for nursing practitioners and educators, furthermore they can exchange research evidence, models of best practice and innovative ideas.

Teaching Methods for Economics and Business Sciences

Opis: The author of the first paper explores how students perceive various types of active learning techniques. The second paper identifies the teaching methods that are accepted by Generation Y students. The author of the third paper addresses the characteristics of contemporary students and their implications for teaching strategies. The fourth paper explores the effects of interdisciplinary problem-based learning on the development of students' knowledge, skills, and competences. Gamification as a teaching strategy is discussed in the fifth paper. The sixth paper addresses the challenge of merging disciplines of entrepreneurship and finance in one study program. The approaches to increasing students’ focus in learning finance-related subjects are discussed in the seventh paper. In the eighth paper authors expose the value of practical higher education as a response to the perceived phenomena of financial illiteracy and financial exclusion. The role of research results transfer into university teaching of transport economics discusses the author of the ninth paper. The authors of tenth paper explore the relevance of mastering Spanish for students of economics and business disciplines. The last paper discusses the authors' experiences with e-learning in higher education from the perspective of its extent and importance.

Book of Abstracts: International Scientific Conference »Research and Education in Nursing«

Opis: Concurrently with the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Health Sciences, we are organizing the scientific conference entitled »Research and Education in Nursing Care«. The conference's purpose and aim is to present the progress in the field of research for practice and education support, to introduce an interdisciplinary and interprofessional approach in nursing care and health care in Slovenia and abroad and also to show the contribution of core knowledge development. The added value of the conference is the integration of higher education teachers, higher education collaborators and students with the exchange of research findings, models of good practice and innovative ideas. We will present articles from current scientific-research projects, dealing with an effective, safe, humane, patient-friendly and family-orineted nursing.

Young pedagogical centre with extensive experience and knowledge

Opis: The contributions gathered in this publication have been prepared within the framework of the Pedagogical Center (PC) of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (FNM) at the University of Maribor, which might seem to be a young center since it has only been established in 2009, nevertheless, the extensive experience and knowledge of its faculty tell a story of a much more established institution. “Pedagogical” is a defining term indicting that the center's activities are focused primarily on pedagogical programmes at FNM and on educating teachers at all levels in the broadest sense of the word. Pedagogical center FNM is a pedagogical research unit, that supports all natural science, mathematical and technology programmes at both the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, as well as the entire University of Maribor, especially the teaching programmes, since after the separation of the large Faculty of Education into three entities - FNM being one of them - its “colour” as well as educational and historical core have been lost. Teacher education at FNM lost previous value and has become much less emphasised than it was the case with its predecessor institution the Faculty of Education. Thus the main aim of the center is to give back to the faculty a part of its previous “colour” as well as to promote and develop educational sciences and their interdisciplinary integration that will certainly mean a step towards guaranteeing quality of work as well as quality of education for all students.

Conceptual learning of physics in Slovenian primary schools

Opis: Teaching and learning with computers (ICT) encompasses her help in educational process everywhere there where is this perhaps and reasonable. Using ICT as educated accessory mean search of optimal elements for teaching efficiency and for better achieving teaching objectives. Learning process of science, mathematic and technical subjects in elementary school in many situations demands practically and problem solved work. Conceptual learning of physics is computer based and its strategies lead pupils to a better understanding and use of more difficult processes (thinking, inferencing, using the knowledge). By conceptual way of learning we used "fizlets" as simulatory models. They are interactive materials, where processes happen in certain intervals and there is interaction between the model and the pupil. The main goal of study was to research the effects of conceptual way of learning in comparison with traditional classroom education when teaching the topics "Pressure and lifting power" in the eighth class of primary school. We tested four thinking processes of pupils (knowledge, analyses, inference and comparison). The main expected ascertainment of research was that the pupils, who were taught through the conceptual way achieved better results than those who were taught traditionally in the classroom. Hypotheses were confirmed. In general this article will show other users of teaching physics and science some didactic manners of preparing interactive educated materials.

VII South-Eastern Europe symposium on vegetables & potatoes

Opis: University of Maribor Faculty of Agriculture and Life Science and the International Society of Horticulture Sciences (ISHS) with the support of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Slovene Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MAFF) have the honor to welcome all engaged in research, development, producers, teaching, extension and public services, suppliers of horticulture materials, cooperatives, private sector and stakeholders related to vegetable and potatoes production to attend the 7th South East European (former Balkan) Symposium on vegetables and potatoes. The Symposium is held in Maribor (university city and in 2012 European culture capital) in the north East of Slovenia from where comes the majority of agriculture products including vegetables as along the river Drava several irrigation systems were established. Long tradition of vegetable production for processing industry in the past and for fresh market in the last period, encouraged Slovene Association for integrated vegetable production established in the year 2000, to prepare all procedures for the first vegetable crop with the origin of denomination “Ptujski lük” which was approved on the European level on 2011. Two days of symposium from 20th to 23rd of June 2017 have scientific programme with additional FAO workshop on GAP for Greenhouse Production on small farms in SEE with the presentation of a new manual printed by FAO in 2017, ISHS meeting and special session about possibilities for networking among researchers in the future. Scientific programme is covering topics: Production systems and quality of V&P, Organic V&P production, Short supply chains and other concepts of V&P marketing, Protected cultivation and GAP of greenhouse production on small farms, Biodiversity, Irrigation and plant water relations, Genetic resources and breeding, Potato, Plant protection, General and other topics.

Educational institution's image
Miha Marič, Jasmina Žnidaršič, Marko Ferjan, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This article presents our findings about the factors influencing educational institution's image. Based on the literature review we composed a web questionnaire which was send to all current students at University of Maribor's Faculty of Organizational Studies. Based on our research results we found out that eight factors influence educational institution's image which have various amounts of influence on the educational institutions image. The factor with the most influence is the quality of professors and of their lectures and the second most important factor is the learning content. These two factors come before all of the others in the matter of influencing the educational institutions image. Our basic recommendation is to build on these factors starting with the most important ones first.
