Upgrading the Management of Electronic Systems in a Passenger Car : magistrsko delo
Josip Sučec, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: The master's thesis introduces the process of modernizing an older model of a passenger car. The mechanical, electrical and programming solutions were required to upgrade the existing car. Upgrades have been made to improve safety, comfort and performance. The safety upgrades contain the development and implementation of the brake temperature and the tire pressure monitoring system, respectively. The comfort upgrades include the car’s light system and accessory improvements, such as “follow me home” function and automatic window closing. The performance upgrades include installation of racing coilovers and the development of remote damping ratio adjustment system. For the central logic unit, a vehicle specific Android device was installed. It controls the local electronic control units made for each specific task and displays tire pressures and brake temperatures. The Android device communicates with the electromechanical car systems by using several serial buses. The communication protocols and their messages in the original car had to be reverse engineered to establish proper communication among the systems in the upgraded car.

Interdisciplinary approach to tool-handle design based on medical imaging
Gregor Harih, Andrej Čretnik, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Products are becoming increasingly complex; therefore, designers are faced with a challenging task to incorporate new functionality, higher performance, and optimal shape design. Traditional user-centered design techniques such as designing with anthropometric data do not incorporate enough subject data to design products with optimal shape for best fit to the target population. To overcome these limitations, we present an interdisciplinary approach with medical imaging. The use of this approach is being presented on the development of an optimal sized and shaped tool handle where the hand is imaged using magnetic resonance imaging machine. The obtained images of the hand are reconstructed and imported into computer-aided design software, where optimal shape of the handle is obtained with Boolean operations. Methods can be used to develop fully customized products with optimal shape to provide best fit to the target population. This increases subjective comfort rating, performance and can prevent acute and cumulative trauma disorders. Provided methods are especially suited for products where high stresses and exceptional performance is expected (high performance tools, professional sports, and military equipment, etc.). With the use of these interdisciplinary methods, the value of the product is increased, which also increases the competitiveness of the product on the market.

MARS: A Metamodel Recovery System Using Grammar Inference
Faizan Javed, Marjan Mernik, Jeffrey G. Gray, Barrett Richard Bryant, 2008, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Domain-specific modeling (DSM) assists subject matter experts in describing the essential characteristics of a problem in their domain. When a metamodel is lost, repositories of domain models can become orphaned from their defining metamodel. Within the purview of model-driven engineering, the ability to recover the design knowledge in a repository of legacy models is needed. In this paper we describe MARS, a semi-automatic grammar-centric system that leverages grammar inference techniques to solve the metamodel recovery problem. The paper also contains an applicative case study, as well as experimental results from the recovery of several metamodels in diverse domains.

A reverse engineering technique for creating virtual robots
Simon Brezovnik, Miran Brezočnik, Simon Klančnik, Ivo Pahole, Karl Gotlih, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: A novel system for out-of-date robotic systems that are not interesting for use any more is introduced. We give a solution for revitalization of these robotic systems with upgrading the programming software from on-line programming to indirect virtual programming and virtual modelling of a production cell equipped with robots. Direct and inverse kinematic models of the robot ACMA XR 701 in the virtual space were developed with reverse engineering technologies.
