2. Decontamination efficiency of thermal, photothermal, microwave, and steam treatments for biocontaminated household textilesBranko Neral, Selestina Gorgieva, Manja Kurečič, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, textile laundering hygiene has proved to be
a fundamental measure in preventing the spread of infections. The first part of our study evaluated
the decontamination efficiency of various treatments (thermal, photothermal, and microwave) for
bio contaminated textiles. The effects on textile decontamination of adding saturated steam into
the drum of a household textile laundering machine were investigated and evaluated in the second
part of our study. The results show that the thermal treatment, conducted in a convection heating
chamber, provided a slight reduction in efficiency and did not ensure the complete inactivation of
Staphylococcus aureus on cotton swatches. The photothermal treatment showed higher reduction
efficiency on contaminated textile samples, while the microwave treatment (at 460 W for a period of
60 s) of bio contaminated cotton swatches containing higher moisture content provided satisfactory
bacterial reduction efficiency (more than 7 log steps). Additionally, the treatment of textiles in the
household washing machine with the injection of saturated steam into the washing drum and a mild
agitation rhythm provided at least a 7 log step reduction in S. aureus. The photothermal treatment
of bio contaminated cotton textiles showed promising reduction efficiency, while the microwave
treatment and the treatment with saturated steam proved to be the most effective. Ključne besede: household textiles, thermal treatment, decontamination, reduction efficiency Objavljeno v DKUM: 24.03.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 1

3. Modeling of tensile test results for low alloy steels by linear regression and genetic programming taking into account the non-metallic inclusionsMiha Kovačič, Uroš Župerl, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Štore Steel Ltd. is one of the biggest flat spring steel producers in Europe. The main
motive for this study was to study the influences of non-metallic inclusions on mechanical properties
obtained by tensile testing. From January 2016 to December 2021, all available tensile strength data
(472 cases–472 test pieces) of 17 low alloy steel grades, which were ordered and used by the final
user in rolled condition, were gathered. Based on the geometry of rolled bars, selected chemical
composition, and average size of worst fields non-metallic inclusions (sulfur, silicate, aluminium
and globular oxides), determined based on ASTM E45, several models for tensile strength, yield
strength, percentage elongation, and percentage reduction area were obtained using linear regression
and genetic programming. Based on modeling results in the period from January 2022 to April 2022,
five successively cast batches of 30MnVS6 were produced with a statistically significant reduction
of content of silicon (t-test, p < 0.05). The content of silicate type of inclusions, yield, and tensile
strength also changed statistically significantly (t-test, p < 0.05). The average yield and tensile strength
increased from 458.5 MPa to 525.4 MPa and from 672.7 MPa to 754.0 MPa, respectively. It is necessary
to emphasize that there were no statistically significant changes in other monitored parameters. 4. Adsorption of pollutants from colored wastewaters after natural wool dyeingAlenka Ojstršek, Primož Vouk, Darinka Fakin, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The presented study assesses the efficiency of selected adsorbents, zeolite 4A in two
particle sizes and pelletized activated carbon (AC), for the potential removal of color, chemical
oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and metals from wastewaters after natural wool
dyeing. Firstly, the natural coloring compounds were extracted from dried common walnut (Juglans
regia) leaves and used further for exhaustion dyeing of wool fibers, together with three different
metallic salts in two concentrations (meta-mordanting). Effluents with higher mordant concentration
were additionally treated according to a shake-flask adsorption experiment. The obtained results
revealed efficient removal of exceeded metallic ions by zeolite (up to 94.7%), on account of their
superior ion exchange capability as compared to AC. The zeolites also reduced turbidity and electrical
conductivity significantly. On the other hand, AC was more efficient for the reduction in organic
pollution, COD up to 96% and TOC up to 95%, due to its higher specific surface area and total pore
volume, and, thus, higher potential for adsorption of different compounds in comparison to 4A.
All three proposed adsorbents lowered wastewaters’ coloration remarkably, up to 78% (AC) and up
to 71% (4A), depending on the type of effluent/mordant and inspected wavelength; although, the
spectral absorbance coefficient (SAC) values remained highly above the limit values for discharge of
wastewaters into watercourses. Ključne besede: wool dyeing, natural dyes, wastewater treatment, decoloration, heavy metals’ reduction, adsorption Objavljeno v DKUM: 20.03.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 3

5. Survey of inter-prediction methods for time-varying mesh compressionJan Dvořák, Filip Hácha, Gerasimos Arvanitis, David Podgorelec, Konstantinos Moustakas, Libor Váša, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Time-varying meshes (TVMs), that is mesh sequences with varying connectivity, are a greatly versatile representation of shapesevolving in time, as they allow a surface topology to change or details to appear or disappear at any time during the sequence. This, however, comes at the cost of large storage size. Since 2003, there have been attempts to compress such data efficiently. Whilethe problem may seem trivial at first sight, considering the strong temporal coherence of shapes represented by the individualframes, it turns out that the varying connectivity and the absence of implicit correspondence information that stems from itmakes it rather difficult to exploit the redundancies present in the data. Therefore, efficient and general TVM compression is stillconsidered an open problem. We describe and categorize existing approaches while pointing out the current challenges in thefield and hint at some related techniques that might be helpful in addressing them. We also provide an overview of the reportedperformance of the discussed methods and a list of datasets that are publicly available for experiments. Finally, we also discusspotential future trends in the field. 6. Comparative study of different polymeric binders in electrochemical CO reductionNoémi V. Galbicsek, Attila Kormányos, Gergely Ferenc Samu, Mohd M. Ayyub, Tomaž Kotnik, Sebastijan Kovačič, Csaba Janáky, Balázs Endrődi, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Electrochemical reduction of carbon monoxide offers a possible route to produce valuable chemicals (such as acetate, ethanol or ethylene) from CO2 in two consecutive electrochemical reactions. Such deeply reduced products are formed via the transfer of 4–6 electrons per CO molecule. Assuming similar-sized CO2 and CO electrolyzers, 2–3-times larger current densities are required in the latter case to match the molar fluxes. Such high reaction rates can be ensured by tailoring the structure of the gas diffusion electrodes. Here, the structure of the cathode catalyst layer was systematically varied using different polymeric binders to achieve high reaction rates. Simple linear polymers, bearing the same backbone but different functional groups were compared to highlight the role of different structural motifs. The comparison was also extended to simple linear, partially fluorinated polymers. Interestingly, in some cases similar results were obtained as with the current state-of-the-art binders. Using different surface-wetting characterization techniques, we show that the hydrophobicity of the catalyst layer─provided by the binder─ is a prerequisite for high-rate CO electrolysis. The validity of this notion was demonstrated by performing CO electrolysis experiments at high current density (1 A cm–2) for several hours using PVDF as the catalyst binder. 7. Optimal bus stops' allocation : a school bus routing problem with respect to terrain elevationKlemen Prah, Abolfazl Keshavarzsaleh, Tomaž Kramberger, Borut Jereb, Dejan Dragan, 2018, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The paper addresses the optimal bus stops allocation in the Laško municipality. The goal is to achieve a cost reduction by proper re-designing of a mandatory pupils' transportation to their schools. The proposed heuristic optimization algorithm relies on data clustering and Monte Carlo simulation. The number of bus stops should be minimal possible that still assure a maximal service area, while keeping the minimal walking distances children have to go from their homes to the nearest bus stop. The working mechanism of the proposed algorithm is explained. The latter is driven by three-dimensional GIS data to take into account as much realistic dynamic properties of terrain as possible. The results show that the proposed algorithm achieves an optimal solution with only 37 optimal bus stops covering 94.6 % of all treated pupils despite the diversity and wideness of municipality, as well as the problematic characteristics of terrains' elevation. The calculated bus stops will represent important guidelines to their actual physical implementation. 8. Predictors of meat reduction : the case of SloveniaAndrej Kirbiš, Vanesa Korže, Maruša Lubej, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Health, environmental, and animal advocacy organisations emphasise reducing or eliminating high meat consumption due to its adverse effects on health, sustainability, climate change, and animal welfare. Increasingly, people are deciding to reduce their meat consumption frequency. Our study aimed to examine predictors of meat reduction among Slovenian consumers, focusing on gender, age, partner and children status, size of residential settlement, socioeconomic status, and political orientation. We conducted a survey using non-probability sampling. We examined demographic, socioeconomic, and political predictors of individuals’ self-assessed intent to reduce meat consumption in the month following the survey. Additionally, we analysed respondents’ meat reduction during the three years prior. A correlation analysis revealed that higher age and education levels were significantly positively correlated with meat reduction patterns. An ordinal logistic regression analysis indicated that age was the only significant predictor of meat reduction intentions and past behaviour. Our findings suggest that middle-aged and elderly individuals are more likely than younger adults to report meat reduction behaviours. Future public health interventions should tailor approaches to different age groups, and, in particular, target younger individuals. Educational campaigns should highlight the health and environmental benefits of reducing meat and animal product consumption, particularly in primary and secondary schools. 10. Development of a “0-Pesticide Residue” grape and wine production system for standard disease-susceptible varietiesMihaela Roškarič, Andrej Paušič, Janez Valdhuber, Mario Lešnik, Borut Pulko, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In order to realize the goals of the EU Farm to Fork strategy, grape growers are introducing new grape-growing technologies. Among the new trends, "0-pesticide residue" protection is quite a promising one. Field trials were carried out in vineyards located in the Mediterranean part of Slovenia in 2021 and 2022 to test the "0-pesticide residue" (ZPR) grape protection system with the goal of producing wine without pesticide residues above the limit of 0.001 mg kg(-1). The standard integrated grape protection program (IP) was compared to the ZPR program. The level of infection of leaves and grapes by fungal pathogens did not significantly increase due to the implementation of the ZPR spray program. The amount of yield and quality of yield were not decreased significantly, but a small financial loss of EUR 70-400 ha(-1) appeared at ZPR grape production when compared to the IP production system. The ZPR system enabled a significant decrease in pesticide residue concentration in wine at a rate of 27 applied pesticide active substances in a rage from 20% to 99%. The goal of producing wine without pesticide residues above the limit concentration of 0.001 mg kg(-1) was not completely achieved in these experiments, but we came very close to it with the tested spraying programs. Further finetuning of pesticide positioning and alternative plant protection products in 0-pesticide residue systems is needed.
