Valentino Šafran, Urška Smrke, Bojan Ilijevec, Samo Horvat, Vojko Flis, Nejc Plohl, Izidor Mlakar, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Aims and Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility, usability and acceptance of integrating Clinical Decision Support Systems with Socially Assistive Robots into hospital grand rounds. Background: Adopting Clinical Decision Support Systems in healthcare faces challenges such as complexity, poor integration with workflows, and concerns about data privacy and quality. Issues such as too many alerts, confusing errors, and difficulty using the technology in front of patients make adoption challenging and prevent it from fitting into daily workflows. Making Clinical Decision Support System simple, intuitive and user-friendly is essential to enable its use in daily practice to improve patient care and decision-making. Methods: This six-month pilot study had two participant groups, with total of 40 participants: a longitudinal intervention group (n =8) and a single-session evaluation group (n=32). Participants were medical doctors at the University Clinical Center Maribor. The intervention involved implementing a Clinical Decision Support System delivered via a Socially Assistive Robot during hospital grand rounds. We developed a system that employed the HL7 FHIR standard for integrating data from hospital monitors, electronic health records, and patient-reported outcomes into a single dashboard. A Pepper-based SAR provided patient specific recommendations through a voice and SAR tablet enabled interface. Key evaluation metrics were assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance, Use of Technology (UTAUT2) questionnaire, including Effort Expectancy, Performance Expectancy and open ended questions. The longitudinal group used the system for 6 months and completed the assessments twice, after one week and at the end of the study. The single-session group completed the assessment once, immediately after the experiment. Qualitative data were gathered through open-ended questions. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and thematic analysis. Results: System usability was rated highly across both groups, with the longitudinal group reporting consistently excellent scores (M =82.08 at final evaluation) compared to the acceptable scores of the single-session group (M =68.96). Extended exposure improved user engagement, reflected in significant increases in Effort Expectancy and Habit over time. Participants found the system enjoyable to use, and while no significant changes were seen in Performance Expectancy, feedback emphasized its efficiency in saving time and improving access to clinical data, supporting its feasibility and acceptability. Conclusions: This research supports the potential of robotic technologies to transform CDSS into more interactive, efficient, and user-friendly tools for healthcare professionals. The paper also suggests further research directions and technical improvements to maximize the impact of innovative technologies in healthcare.

Validation of a Slovenian version of the healthy lifestyle and personal control questionnaire (HLPCQ) for use with patients in family medicine
Adrijana Svenšek, Gregor Štiglic, Mateja Lorber, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background Chronic non-communicable diseases are the world’s leading cause of death and disability. The emerging field of lifestyle medicine requires equipping healthcare professionals with instruments, knowledge, skills and competencies. Measuring an individual’s lifestyle with a valid and reliable instrument is the first step in promoting it. The aim of the study was to validate the Slovenian adaptation of the Healthy Lifestyle and Personal Control Questionnaire (HLPCQ). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 666 questionnaire participants, and they were adult participants (aged 18 and above) from family medicine practices with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) risk factors (e.g., hypertension, high cholesterol) but without a diagnosis of acute CVDs. The questionnaire included demographic data and anthropological measures and a translated English HLPCQ questionnaire. The instrument was translated using the forward-backwards translation method. The study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki. In addition to assessing the construct validity of the questionnaire, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to determine content and face validity, and internal consistency reliability. Results The mean age of male participants was 41.34 (± 13.220) years, the mean age of female participants was 40.31 (± 11.905) years. The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.852, and all questionnaire subscales had positive correlations. Sampling adequacy was confirmed by the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index (0.851), and Bartlett’s test of sphericity was significant (χ² = 4647.694, p < 0.001), indicating suitability for Principal Component Analysis (PCA). PCA revealed a fivefactor solution, accounting for 50.67% of the total variance. Conclusions The most influential factors for a healthy lifestyle were daily routine, healthy dietary choices, avoidance of harmful dietary habits, organized physical activity, and social and mental balance. The Slovenian version had high factor validity and reliability. It can be used in Slovenian Community Health Centre to assess an individual’s control over various lifestyle dimensions. The instrument also holds potential for use in public health initiatives, supporting early identification of lifestyle-related risk factors and promoting preventive care strategies in the primary care setting.

Development and validation of the perceived deepfake trustworthiness questionnaire (PDTQ) in three languages
Nejc Plohl, Izidor Mlakar, Letizia Aquilino, Piercosma Bisconti, Urška Smrke, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Exposure to false information is becoming a common occurrence in our daily lives. New developments in artificial intelligence are now used to produce increasingly sophisticated multimedia false content, such as deepfakes, making false information even more challenging to detect and combat. This creates expansive opportunities to mislead individuals into believing fabricated claims and negatively influence their attitudes and behavior. Therefore, a better understanding of how individuals perceive such content and the variables related to the perceived trustworthiness of deepfakes is needed. In the present study, we developed and validated the Perceived Deepfake Trustworthiness Questionnaire (PDTQ) in English, Italian, and Slovene. This was done in three phases. First, we developed the initial pool of items by reviewing previous studies, generating items via interviews and surveys, and employing artificial intelligence. Second, we shortened and adapted the questionnaire according to experts’ evaluation of content validity and translated the questionnaire into Italian and Slovene. Lastly, we evaluated the psychometric characteristics via a cross-sectional study in three languages (N ¼ 733). The exploratory factor analyses suggested a two-factor solution, with the first factor measuring the perceived trustworthiness of the content and the second measuring the perceived trustworthiness of the presentation. This factorial structure was replicated in confirmatory factor analyses. Moreover, our analyses provided support for PDTQ’s reliability, measurement invariance across all three languages, and its construct and incremental validity. As such, the PDTQ is a reliable, measurement invariant, and valid tool for comprehensive exploration of individuals’ perception of deepfake videos.

English teaching update available: a study on online EFL educators : magistrsko delo
Andreja Benković, 2021, magistrsko delo

Opis: The master’s thesis explores the north-Croatian teachers’ readiness for teaching online. With technology slowly, but steadily, taking over everyday actions, it was only a matter of time when it would take over education. With March 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, technology was the safest way of conducting lessons and was instantaneously implemented into education. This master’s thesis aims to determine how English teachers in the three northernmost Croatian counties managed the new challenge. Specifically, it tests factors that influenced their e-readiness through 7 hypotheses. The research is based on questionnaire results – the questionnaire was sent to 86 primary schools, 30 secondary schools and 11 private language schools in Međimurje county, Varaždin county and Koprivnica-Križevci county via email with a request to forward it to their English teachers. Analysing responses with quantitative research methods, the study showed that factors such as age, gender and professional development influence teachers’ e-readiness, while there were no differences among the three counties. Furthermore, the results revealed that the teachers generally feel ready for conducting online lessons, although Gay’s questionnaire on Carribean teachers’ online teaching readiness proved otherwise. Interestingly, some of the teachers did have online teaching experience prior to the pandemic, which along with organized professional development offered to them, helped them feel ready to teach online. Ultimately, teachers are better prepared to teach online than they were prior to the pandemic; however, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

References to American Culture in the TV Series Supernatural: Analysis of Selected Episodes
Sabina Bedek, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: The main aim of this master's thesis is to look into the use of references to American culture in the selected episodes of TV series Supernatural. The empirical part is divided into two parts. In the first part, there is an analysis of references in the selected episodes, which includes the context in which they appear, explanation and possible understanding or misunderstanding by the Slovene viewers. The analysis shows that most of the references are connected to popular culture, especially TV, movies and music. Other cultural categories which appear are literature, general American culture and sport. The purpose of the most references is to appeal to the broader audience, set the humoristic mood and identify the character. The second part of the empirical part is questionnaire analysis. Questionnaires were handed out to first- and third-year students of English Language and Literature on Faculty of Arts in Maribor. With this questionnaire, the level of understanding of selected references and possible differences between the results of first-year and third-year students have been be examined. The questionnaire contained 10 multiple-choice questions. The results show no significant deviances in the correctness of the answers of third- and first-year students; however, the first-year students reached slightly higher percent of correct answers. The students performed better on questions related to present American popular culture (Hulk, Star Wars, The Parent Trap). Questions with the least correct answers were those on American general culture, especially cultural items that are not present in the Slovene culture (for example, GED and historic cultural elements).

Commercial aquaponics approaching the European market: to consumers' perceptions of aquaponics products in Europe
Vesna Miličić, Ragnheidur Thorarinsdottir, Maria Dos Santos, Maja Turnšek, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The first commercial aquaponics companies are starting up in Europe. The main focus has been on solving technology issues and optimizing production. However, increasing attention is now being paid to certification and regulations linked to aquaponics, as well as the marketing of products and services. The paper presents the results of a study whose main aim was to estimate consumers’ knowledge about aquaponics and their acceptance of aquaponics products in different European regions. An on-line questionnaire was administered to the general public through the aquaponics network of Food and Agriculture COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Action FA1305 “The EU Aquaponics Hub—Realising Sustainable Integrated Fish and Vegetable Production for the EU” in 16 European countries. The methodology includes univariate and multivariate statistical techniques. The results show that, on average, attitudes towards aquaponics were positive, showing no significant differences between those who already knew about aquaponics and those who only heard about it through the survey. More than 50% of respondents had never heard of aquaponics, whilst more than 70% had already heard of hydroponics. No more than 17% of respondents were willing to pay more for aquaponically produced products and no more than 40% more when compared to the price of products from conventional farming. The results confirm three different clusters of potential consumers of aquaponics products. They also suggest an urgent need for implementing integrated and holistic approaches involving all stakeholders in aquaponics, in order to define a marketing plan and efficient communication strategies. This COST action, other projects and public decision makers must invest in educating consumers about aquaponics through the organization of guided tours, thematic workshops and tastings of aquaponics products in order to raise their awareness about this new technology. It is absolutely urgent that public decision makers, in cooperation with aquaponics stakeholders, address the main institutional constraints, namely the introduction of aquaponics as an economic activity and the organic certification of aquaponics products.
