2. Eco-design processes in the automotive industryEwelina Staniszewska, Dorota Klimecka-Tatar, Matevž Obrecht, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Every year approximately 70 million passenger cars are being produced and automotive industry is much bigger then just passenger cars. The impact of automotive industry on the environment is tre-mendous. From extracting raw materials through manufacturing and assembly processes, exploitation of the vehicle to the reprocessing irreversible, extensive environmental damage is done. The goal of this study is to show how implementing eco-design processes into supply chain management can re-duce the impact of automotive industry on the environment by e.g. reducing the use of the fuel, in-creasing the use of recycled materials. Focus is on evaluation of current state, environmental impacts and potential improvements for design, raw materials, manufacturing and distribution and end-of-life phase. 3. Comparative analysis of human and artificial intelligence planning in production processesMatjaž Roblek, Tomaž Kern, Eva Krhač Andrašec, Alenka Brezavšček, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Artificial intelligence (AI) has found applications in enterprises′ production planning
processes. However, a critical question remains: could AI replace human planners? We conducted a
comparative analysis to evaluate the main task of planners in an intermittent process: planning the
duration of production orders. Specifically, we analysed the results of a human planner using master
data and those of an AI algorithm compared to the actual realisation. The case study was conducted
in a large production company using a sample of production products and machines. We were able
to confirm two of the three research questions (RQ1 and RQ3), while the results of the third question
(RQ2) did not meet our expectations. The AI algorithms demonstrated significant improvement with
each iteration. Despite this progress, it is still difficult to determine the exact threshold at which AI
outperforms human planners due to the unpredictability of unexpected events. Even though AI
significantly improves prediction accuracy, the inherent variability and incomplete input data pose a
major challenge. As progress is made, robust data collection and management strategies need to be
integrated to bridge the gap between the potential of AI and its practical application, fostering the
symbiosis between human expertise and AI capabilities in production planning. Ključne besede: artificial intelligence, machine learning, production processes, production planning, production scheduling Objavljeno v DKUM: 04.12.2024; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 18

5. Bracken-induced increase in soil P availability, along with its high P acquisition efficiency, enables it to invade P-deficient meadowsAntun Jelinčić, Nina Šajna, Željka Zgorelec, Aleksandra Perčin, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Changes in soil chemistry after invasion by bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) have been studied in heathlands, but comparable studies in meadows are lacking. We investigated if bracken invasion into P-deficient meadows alters the soil nutrient-resource pool, as well as the mechanisms behind it linked to soil processes and bracken nutrition. Furthermore, we investigated how community composition responds to differences in soil chemistry before and after the invasion. Soil and plant material sampling, along with vegetation survey, were performed during bracken peak biomass. Data analyses included analysis of variance and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Bracken invasion increased soil P availability, soil organic C concentration, as well as C:N, C:S and N:S ratios, while decreasing Fe and Co concentrations. Bracken pinnae were rich in P, and its rhizomes were rich in K, whereas N:P of pinnae and rhizomes was low. CCA showed contrasting abundance patterns of frequent meadow species related to P and K availability. Holcus lanatus exhibited competitive advantage under extremely low P availability. Increase in P availability under bracken may have occurred through promoting the leaching of Fe and Al. By increasing P availability for its growth and increasing N limitation for other species, bracken can gain a competitive advantage from the soil resource-niche perspective. Its ability to increase soil P availability, along with the physiological mechanisms behind its high P acquisition efficiency, seem to differentiate bracken from other species of competitive ecological strategy, which are mainly confined to nutrient-rich environments. This enabled bracken to invade P-deficient meadows. 6. An innovative approach to organizational changes for sustainable processes : a case study on waste minimizationEva Krhač Andrašec, Tomaž Kern, Benjamin Urh, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: It is necessary to adapt constantly to the business environment with its changing demands. Understanding the objectives, scope, and limitations of actual process changes is crucial, and can be achieved with numerous measures, methods, and techniques. This research demonstrates an innovative approach to organizational changes to enable sustainable processes. In the first part of this research, relevant measures, methods, and techniques are selected through an in-depth literature review. Then, an international online questionnaire is executed among 213 enterprises from four countries. In the last part of this research, the developed approach is tested for the example of waste minimization in the process of developing coatings. Based on the analysis of the survey questionnaire, the usability and benefits of various measures are demonstrated, namely from the point of view of their positive impact on structural and operational efficiency indicators. At the end of the article, a case study presents the success of the innovative approach in terms of 88% waste minimization and up to 48% time and cost reductions in the process of developing coatings. The proposed approach enables better choices to be made and the more efficient use of various measures, which can lead to more sustainable processes and improve the efficiency of enterprises. 8. Managing document management systems’ life cycle in relation to an organization’s maturity for digital transformationSimona Sternad Zabukovšek, Sandra Jordan, Samo Bobek, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Document management systems (DMS) have become an important topic regarding digital transformation in organizations because they enable paperless business, speed up processes, lower business costs, and support sustainability activities in organizations. DMSs should be considered as green technology and also as technology crucial for green digital transformation. Sustainability is becoming increasingly crucial for organizations and society, and DMSs, along with paperless business, can contribute to the sustainable orientation of organizations. However, the problem with DMS implementations is that they often fail and that DMS users often use DMSs at a basic level, which means that, among other things, they still prefer to print documents rather than use electronic documents. A framework that can contribute to a better implementation and a higher level of use of DMSs, which both lead to a more green digital transformation of the organization, represents an organization's maturity. We used the Process and Enterprise Maturity Model (PEMM) to assess the organization's maturity level concerning the DMS' life cycle. Findings are presented from the research study. The research study was based on a questionnaire and collected data from DMS users. The research study showed that an organization's maturity impacts the DMS' life cycle. Organizations that manage the DMS' life cycle will better cope with digital transformation and sustainability issues related to paperless business. 9. Development of an experimental Dead-End microfiltration layout and process repeatability analysisGorazd Bombek, Luka Kevorkijan, Grega Hrovat, Drago Kuzman, Aleks Kapun, Jure Ravnik, Matjaž Hriberšek, Aleš Hribernik, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Microfiltration is an important process in the pharmaceutical industry. Filter selection and validation is a time-consuming and expensive process. Quality by design approach is important for product safety. The article covers the instrumentalization and process control of a laboratory-scale dead-end microfiltration layout. The layout is a downscale model of the actual production line, and the goal is filter validation and analysis of process parameters, which may influence filter operation. Filter size, fluid pressure, valve plunger speed, and timing issues were considered. The focus is on the identification of the most influential process parameters and their influence on the repeatability of pressure oscillations caused by valve opening. The goal was to find the worst-case scenario regarding pressure oscillations and, consequently, filter energy intake. The layout was designed as compact as possible to reduce pressure losses between the filter and valve. Valve-induced pressure oscillations proved to be prevailing over the water hammer effect. Several filters in sizes between 3.5 cm2 and 6900 cm2 were tested, and some recommendations were suggested for the reduction of energy intake of the filter and to improve the repeatability of the process. 10. Enhancing the performance of high-growth small- and medium-sized enterprises through effective project- management processes and stakeholder engagement : a systems perspectiveIgor Vrečko, Polona Tominc, Karin Širec, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This study examines the impact of project management practices on high-growth Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (HG SMEs) from a systems perspective, utilizing Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) and data from a diverse SME sample. It investigates the intricate relationships among project management system support, project management processes, stakeholder involvement, project management success, project success, and HG SME growth. Our findings highlight the substantial positive influence of project management processes and stakeholder engagement on project management success. These factors subsequently contribute significantly to both project success and the overall growth of HG SMEs. Notably, project management system support does not exhibit a substantial influence on these success factors. Furthermore, our research uncovers important indirect effects. Project management processes indirectly impact both project success and HG SME growth, underscoring their central role. Similarly, stakeholder involvement indirectly influences HG SME growth through its impact on project success, emphasizing its significance. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by emphasizing the critical roles of project management processes, stakeholder engagement, and project success as drivers of SME growth. These insights have valuable implications for SME managers, project leaders, and policymakers, highlighting the essential nature of effective project management in shaping the growth trajectory of SMEs.
