1. Art portfolios in preschool teachers’ initial education as a means of acquiring professional competences and reflective practiceMarijana Županić Benić, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The study sought to examine the art portfolios of second-year undergraduate students of Early and Preschool Education at the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb and their reflections on their own artwork. The aim was to examine how students experience, reflect on and interpret their creative work process. By reflecting, students acquire deeper understanding of art expression and perfect the ability to plan and evaluate visual art activities for implementation in their future work with children. The results show that students whose reflections on their own artwork through portfolios are more detailed show greater levels of self-awareness, creativity and pedagogical competence. 2. Stress in the preschool profession : action researchTonča Jukić, Iskra Tomić Kaselj, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Stress has become an integral part of modern humans’ busy lives. One of the professions in which stress is highly prevalent is that of a preschool teacher. Therefore, action research was conducted in a higher education context aimed at reducing preschool teacher stress. After one month of introducing changes that met teachers’ interests and needs and realizing their baseline values, teacher stress was reduced. Moreover, the research produced multiple benefits on both the personal and professional levels. The paper points to the need to organize a motivating pedagogical environment in higher education, which will make positive changes in students’ lives and in their professional development. 3. TiDE model - Creating plurilingual digital materials with future preschool teachersAnita Sila, Andreja Klančar, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This article deals with developing plurilingual digital content with future preschool teachers. We present the TiDE (Teaching in Digital Education) model which promotes the development of digital didactic materials and relevant digital competences through active, experience-based, and interdisciplinary learning. A qualitative study was conducted focused on the process of designing new digital didactic materials for raising plurilingual awareness, i.e. stop-motion videos for preschool children. The data were obtained by analysing 16 stop-motion videos and feedback from 60 Slovenian first-year students of preschool education at the University of Primorska. The results suggest that new digital technologies can be very effective in developing engaging, effective, and learner-centered resources that promote students' plurilingual awareness and an open attitude towards linguistic and cultural diversity. 4. Preschool teachers’ conceptions of professional development in relation to career motivation and job satisfactionMojca Žveglič Mihelič, Milena Valenčič Zuljan, Romina Plešec Gasparič, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In this paper, we are interested in preschool teachers’ conceptions of professional
development in relation to their motives for choosing the profession and
professional satisfaction. Results of a study among 145 Slovenian preschool
teachers show that they generally have a positive conception of professional
development; nevertheless, recognition of the importance of learning and in-depth
reflection on this conception depend on career motivations, while a broader
conception of professional development increases the likelihood of thinking about
leaving the profession more frequently. The findings justify the need for better
recognition of preschool teachers’ needs and obstacles in the workplace. Ključne besede: professional development, conception of professional development, career motivation, job satisfaction, preschool teachers Objavljeno v DKUM: 24.07.2025; Ogledov: 0; Prenosov: 5

6. Attitudes of future preschool educators about parental competenciesSandra Kadum, Jurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec, Maja Hmelak, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The early childhood is the period when parents have the greatest influence on the upbringing of their child. In order to act positively in the upbringing of their own child, parents must be competent. Being competent means to have knowledge, be efficient and skilled in realizing certain forms of behaviour and to achieve results that are expected of it. Parents are expected to develop all socially desirable and positive traits in the child. In this process, parents are seeking support from the preschool teachers because they have the greatest interaction with them when they leave the child in the educational institution. That was exactly the point in this research i.e. we wanted to see whether future educational workers are trained and whether parents make mistakes in the upbringing of their children. 347 students of the preschool education studies in Pula, Koper and Maribor were questioned. The results indicate that our respondents noticed that parents have problems in the relationships with their children because they do not have enough knowledge to access their own child and ‘blame’ the TV/media and the peers for it. 7. Preschool teaching staff 's opinions on the importance of preschool curricular fields of activities, art genres and visual arts fieldsTomaž Zupančič, Matjaž Mulej, Branka Čagran, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This article presents preschool teachers’ and assistant teachers’ opinions on the importance of selected fields of educational work in kindergartens. The article first highlights the importance of activities expressing artistic creativity within modern curriculums. Then, it presents an empirical study that examines the preschool teachers’ and assistant teachers’ opinions on the importance of the educational fields, art genres, and visual arts fields. In research hypotheses, we presumed that preschool teachers find individual educational fields, individual art genres, and individual visual arts activities to be of different importance; consequently, education in kindergarten does not achieve the requisite holism. The study is based on the descriptive and causal-non-experimental method. We have determined that the greatest importance is attributed to movement and language, followed by nature, society, art and mathematics. Within art genres, the greatest importance is attributed to visual arts and music and the least to audio-visual activities. Within visual arts, drawing and painting are considered to be the most important and sculpting the least. These findings can support future studies and deliberation on the possible effects on practice in terms of requisitely holistically planned preschool education. 8. Interactive learning environment for children in the beliefs of pre-school teachersMagdalena Grochowalska, 2014, drugi znanstveni članki Opis: The following academic article is based on a PhD thesis that is currently being completed, titled Education and Qualifications of Elementary School Teachers in the U.S. State of Kansas and Slovenia for teaching in classes with immigrant children. The research study titled Integrating Multicultural Subject Matters into Teaching Strategies of Elementary School Teachers (The U.S. State of Kansas), conducted in 2007 based on a sample of 89 elementary school teachers in the U.S. State of Kansas, represents one aspect of assessing the adequacy of undergraduate education regarding multicultural subject matters for elementary school teachers in Slovenia and the U.S. (State of Kansas) as well as the qualifications of elementary school teachers of both countries for working with immigrant children. Despite the long-standing tradition of multicultural education in western countries, the research results for Kansas elementary school teachers showed a presence of significant discrepancies between the actual and optimal integration of multicultural subject matters. These results indicate that future undergraduate study programs will have to invest more time in developing multicultural skills and providing practical experiences for working in a diverse environment. 9. Construction of the Scale of child's attachment to his/her kindergarten teacher (CAKT)Zlatka Cugmas, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In the theoretical part of this paper, the author gives answers to the question of whether a real attachment relationship can exist between a child and a non-maternal caretaker. She mentions the established methods of measuring the child's attachment to the kindergarten teacher. She presents The scale of child's attachment to his/her kindergarten teacher (CAKT), which is based on authors previous findings and the experience of other authors in the forming of psychological instruments of this type. The scale was tested in a research which involved twenty-five kindergarten teachers who participated in the evaluation of 178 children (49.4% boys). Children ranged in age from 3 to 6 years. The purpose of the study was to investigate the dimensionality and internal consistency of the Scale. It was established that the psychometric characteristics of the Scale were adequate. This paper also presents the limitations of the research, which should be considered in the interpretation of the obtained results. Replication studies using clinical groups and samples from different cultures will be needed to assess a possible generalization of the presented results. 10. Theory and practice of experimental learning of the future preschool teachers in SloveniaJurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present article illustrates the problem of a hidden curriculum in kindergartens. It is presented as an important part of the overt curriculum. The empathy of kindergarten teachers is shown within the scope of a hidden curriculum. The second part discusses the results of the research on empathy of preschool teachers as an important element of the hidden curriculum in kindergartens. Four dimensions of empathy were identified: social self-confi dence, calmness, sensitivity and non-conformism. Each of these dimensions contributes on its own and together with the others to a better understanding of empathy of kindergarten teachers, which undoubtedly influences and encourages the development of emphatic communication among preschool teachers, children and parents. In this contribution, we attempt to answer the question of how experimental learning is implemented in the educational program for future preschool teachers. At the same time, it is important to know that the ideas of experimental learning represent a consequence of searching a closer connection between theory and practice; in particular, in the processes of educating teachers/preschool teachers its beginnings date back to the era of reform pedagogy. In the fi rst part, we will introduce the grounds of the experimental learning of preschool teachers. In the second part, we will present the fi ndings of a survey on implementing the experimental learning in the educational program for future teachers of preschool children. We were interested in the assessment of representation of experimental learning in the undergraduate educational studies from the point-of-view of future preschool teachers, in the assessment of expected knowledge gained during the studies and in the evaluation of expected communication skills during the studies. The contribution reveals new questions about the possibilities of experimental learning of future preschool teachers; such possibilities are necessary so that the appropriate integration of experimental learning would contribute to higher professionalism of preschool teachers.
