The pronunciation of /r/ in English and German as foreign languages in II. gimnazija Maribor : master's thesisNeli Vuherer, 2024, magistrsko delo Opis: The Master‘s thesis investigates the production of English and German phonemes /r/ in II. Gimnazija Maribor. The students learn English as their first foreign language and German as their second foreign language. In the theoretical part the English, German and Slovenian allophones of /r/ are presented, as well as different phonological processes which concern the pronunciation of /r/. In the empirical part the author presents the research consisting of production test in English and German. Furthermore, the author evaluates the hypotheses and summarizes the results. 2. Effects of social interactions on learning and developing foreign language and phonetic learning in infancyTina Dornik, 2019, magistrsko delo Opis: The main aim of the master's thesis is to gather as much information as possible on early second language acquisition, types of bilingualism and language changes that occur in early second language acquisition and bilingualism. The main objective was visiting a 21-month-old child, regularly for one hour per week, for a period of one year, with whom the author communicated exclusively in English. The purpose of this was to determine the possibilities of developing the earliest type of bilingualism possible in a child living in an all Slovenian family. The fundamental research question was whether a constant but relatively short (1x per week) form of social interaction could result in development of this form of bilingualism. The author collects material through fieldwork with audio and video material and writing a journal with basic findings and further suggestions for work in this field. 3. S-shaped curve of phonological standardization : six surveys in the Tsuruoka and Yamazoe areasFumio Inoue, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper is concerned with the speed of linguistic change. If social variation is a reflection of linguistic change, the scene of the linguistic change can be caught in action as a palpable phenomenon. However there is one theoretical question, the distinction of “real time” and “apparent time”. In order to observe linguistic change repeated surveying is necessary. The tradition of Japanese dialectology provides us with several examples of repetitive surveys. The conclusion of the analysis is as follows. The curve of apparent-time change corresponds to that of real-time change. The total number of years necessary for a linguistic change to be completed is nearly 200 years. 4. PHONETIC ANALYSIS OF THE COCKNEY DIALECT IN THE TV SERIES EASTENDERSTina Novak, 2015, diplomsko delo Opis: The graduation thesis presents the dialectal features of Cockney in the series EastEnders. The theoretical part includes the definitions of the following concepts: language variety, dialect levelling, accent, dialect. This is followed by a brief presentation of the historical background and social perception of Cockney. The last and most extended segment of the theoretical part presents the linguistic features of Cockney, with emphasis on the phonological characteristics and the comparison of its phonological features with those of Received Pronunciation and Estuary English. The empirical part consists of the phonetic transcription of two chosen episodes of EastEnders, accounted for through auditory analysis. As in spoken conversation, especially in rapid speech, the neighbouring phonemes of words affect each other’s articulation, consideration is given to most common accommodation processes that appear in connected speech: assimilation, elision, epenthesis, and liaison. The aim of the graduation thesis is to analyse the phonetic features of Cockney in EastEnders. Moreover, the examination indicates how frequently a certain Cockney feature is used by each speaker and in what way its occurrence varies depending on the age, gender, and education of the characters in the series. The results of the statistical analysis are given for each phoneme separately.
