Supplemental role of fodder tree legumes in dwarf sheep and goats feeding systems:a review
Oladapo Ayokunle Fasae, Felicia Temitope Adelusi, 2024, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: The potential of fodder tree legumes (FTL) as a promising and nutritional strategy to minimize the problem of insufficient supply of forages, especially during the dry season, in West African dwarf sheep and goats’ production systems was reviewed. For more sustainable agricultural systems, including expanding the use of locally produced available feedstuffs, FTL species with a focus on Leucaena leucocephala, Gliricidia sepium, and Enterolobium cyclocarpum represent an interesting strategy to provide dietary nitrogen and improve feed digestibility, weight gain, and nitrogen retention, thus enhancing dwarf sheep and goats’ productivity. They also contain concentrations of biologically active compounds with nutraceutical value that assist in slowing down the infections with parasitic nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and mitigating enteric methane emissions from these animals. The dietary crude protein and tannin content ranged from 16.20 to 26.79% and 0.95 to 2.92%, respectively across the FTL species. Mean weight gain (g/day) of 43.23 to 48.59 and 32.46 to 40.87, respectively were reviewed for dwarf sheep and goats fed FTL supplementary diets. Haematological and serum biochemical variables monitored were within the permissible range for healthy animals and showed the adequacy of nutrient supply from FTL species with nutrient utilization to improve productivity. The review concluded that the combination of excellent nutritive value reported for FTL provides important opportunities for sustainable dwarf sheep and goat feeding systems.

Jožef Šimenko, Nik Mahnič, David Kukovica, Hrvoje Sertić, Ivan Segedi, Radoje Milić, Damir Karpljuk, Bayram Ceylan, Samo Rauter, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Judo elements rely on lower and upper body muscle power, supported by the ATP-PCr energy system, which is crucial in high-intensity tasks. This study aims to assess the anaerobic status of young male competitive judokas using the upper body Wingate test and explore associations with competition performance and individual morphological characteristics. A total of 29 male judokas from the U18 and U20 age categories were tested, all actively participating in top-tier national and international competitions. Anthropometric characteristics and body composition measurements were obtained for all participants through bioelectrical impedance analysis. Anaerobic testing was conducted using the upper body Wingate test with a hand ergometer. Competition performance was recorded from the final national cup ranking list. The results presented no statistically significant correlations between morphological and anaerobic variables and competitive performance among selected participants. This highlights the importance of the necessity of updated training programs to increase the anaerobic performance of young Slovenian judokas. Additionally, it shows that in these age groups, anaerobic performance is not the crucial factor but just one piece of the puzzle in young judokas’ successful competition performance; therefore other variables should be further researched.

Task-oriented evaluation of the feasible kinematic directional capabilities for robot machining
Saša Stradovnik, Aleš Hace, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Performing the machining of complex surfaces can be a challenging task for a robot, especially in terms of collaborative robotics, where the available motion capabilities are greatly reduced in comparison with conventional industrial robot arms. It is necessary to evaluate these capabilities prior to task execution, for which we need efficient algorithms, especially in the case of flexible robot applications. To provide accurate and physically consistent information about the maximum kinematic capabilities while considering the requirements of the task, an approach called the Decomposed Twist Feasibility (DTF) method is proposed in this study. The evaluation of the maximum feasible end-effector velocity is based on the idea of decomposition into the linear and angular motion capabilities, considering a typical robot machining task with synchronous linear and angular motion. The proposed DTF method is presented by the well-known manipulability polytope concept. Unlike the existing methods that estimate the kinematic performance capabilities in arbitrarily weighted twist space, or separately in the translation and the rotation subspace, our approach offers an accurate and simple solution for the determination of the total kinematic performance capabilities, which is often highly required, especially in the case of robot machining tasks. The numerical results obtained in this study show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Moreover, the proposed DTF method could represent suitable kinematic performance criteria for the optimal placement of predefined tasks within the robot workspace

Probability and certainty in the performance of evolutionary and swarm optimization algorithms
Nikola Ivković, Robert Kudelić, Matej Črepinšek, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Reporting the empirical results of swarm and evolutionary computation algorithms is a challenging task with many possible difficulties. These difficulties stem from the stochastic nature of such algorithms, as well as their inability to guarantee an optimal solution in polynomial time. This research deals with measuring the performance of stochastic optimization algorithms, as well as the confidence intervals of the empirically obtained statistics. Traditionally, the arithmetic mean is used for measuring average performance, but we propose quantiles for measuring average, peak and bad-case performance, and give their interpretations in a relevant context for measuring the performance of the metaheuristics. In order to investigate the differences between arithmetic mean and quantiles, and to confirm possible benefits, we conducted experiments with 7 stochastic algorithms and 20 unconstrained continuous variable optimization problems. The experiments showed that median was a better measure of average performance than arithmetic mean, based on the observed solution quality. Out of 20 problem instances, a discrepancy between the arithmetic mean and median happened in 6 instances, out of which 5 were resolved in favor of median and 1 instance remained unresolved as a near tie. The arithmetic mean was completely inadequate for measuring average performance based on the observed number of function evaluations, while the 0.5 quantile (median) was suitable for that task. The quantiles also showed to be adequate for assessing peak performance and bad-case performance. In this paper, we also proposed a bootstrap method to calculate the confidence intervals of the probability of the empirically obtained quantiles. Considering the many advantages of using quantiles, including the ability to calculate probabilities of success in the case of multiple executions of the algorithm and the practically useful method of calculating confidence intervals, we recommend quantiles as the standard measure of peak, average and bad-case performance of stochastic optimization algorithms.

A review of analytical techniques for the determination of e-liquid and electronic cigarette aerosol composition
Matjaž Rantaša, David Majer, Matjaž Finšgar, 2025, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Since the introduction of electronic cigarettes (ECs) to the global market, the composition of e-liquids has been a controversial topic. While some consider ECs to be an effective tool for quitting smoking, their primary criticism lies in the uncertain and varied composition of e-liquids. Manufacturers create the desired formulations by mixing different ratios of humectants, flavorings, nicotine, cannabinoids, and cooling agents. However, the health effects of inhaling these compounds are still not well understood. Regular analytical control of e-liquids and aerosols is crucial to gain valuable insights into e-liquid composition, generating new compounds during aerosolization, and the potential impact on human health. This work presents an overview of the analytical techniques used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of e-liquid and aerosol compounds, including a description of the methods used for aerosol collection. Gas and liquid chromatography are the most used analytical techniques for compound determination, followed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Additionally, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy are the most frequently used analytical techniques for elemental determination in e-liquids and their aerosols.

Cruise port performance evaluation in the context of port authority : an MCDA approach
Vivien Lorenčič, Elen Twrdy, Marjan Lep, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: When it comes to analyzing cruise port performance, port operators have a challenging task because there are no widely accepted or well-known procedures for evaluating cruise port performance. Any performance measures used by port authorities are rough and only offer an approximation of the terminal’s operational performance. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present a multi-criteria assessment model to assist port authorities in evaluating cruise port performance from a multidisciplinary perspective. We investigated the compatibility and utility of combining the AHP and TOPSIS methods in a proposed MCDA model for assessing cruise port performance. The AHP method was used to provide the weights of port performance indicators, and the TOPSIS method was used to assess the port performance and to create a rank list of ports. A case study involving four Mediterranean cruise ports, Barcelona, Piraeus, Civitavecchia, and Marseille, was used to show the model’s application. The case study results reveal that the safety–environmental aspect is the most important aspect in assessing cruise port performance. We compared the proposed model to a state-of-the-art paper and discovered that our model can successfully cope with various multi-criteria models for port performance assessment.

Exploring social customer relationship management adoption in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
Marjeta Marolt, Hans Dieter Zimmermann, Anja Žnidaršič, Andreja Pucihar, 2019, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: With the emergence of social media, customer relationship management has undergone noticeable changes and gained a great deal of attention from researchers and practitioners in recent years. In this paper, we provide additional insights into how intensively business-to-customer micro, small and medium-sized enterprises adopt social customer relationship management. Based on the literature review and insights from interviews with six micro, small and medium-sized enterprise owners/managers, we developed a conceptual research model that integrates the antecedents, intensity of social customer relationship management adoption, and performance outcomes. For the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption, we applied process-based conceptualization consisting of the customer engagement process and customer data management process. Then we empirically tested a conceptual research model by using data collected in a survey of 119 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Slovenia. We found that not all antecedents are equally relevant to both processes of the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption. Additionally, we found that the intensity of social customer relationship management adoption has a positive effect on customer relationship performance. Based on these findings, we provide recommendations for further research and offer practical implications for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises considering social customer relationship management adoption.

Wear simulation of the conveyor belt transfer chute using the DEM
Tone Lerher, Žan Grum, Marko Motaln, Matej Zadravec, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This paper presents a wear simulation-based performance evaluation of the conveyor belt transfer chute using the DEM (Discrete Element Method). Compared to known analytical and empirical wear models, DEM simulation can significantly increase the performance of wear analysis by enabling the analysis and optimization of highly complex geometries of material handling systems such as conveyor belt transfer chutes. Only the correct design of the conveyor belt transfer chute has the potential to significantly extend its service life, resulting in considerable cost savings. Based on the parametric analysis of different angles and radius in the upper head and lower section of the transfer chute, a new geometry of the transfer chute was proposed. The wear depth of the new conveyor belt transfer chute is compared with the wear resistant and low-carbon steel of the transfer chute along with the moderate and relatively high values of the solid granules mass flow. The results show that the wear depth of the transfer chute can be significantly reduced by using the wear-resistant steel compared to the low-carbon steel, which is significantly evident in high throughput rates of the solid granules mass flow.

Sensitivity analysis of MTPA control to angle errors for synchronous reluctance machines
Martin Petrun, Jernej Černelič, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This study investigated the sensitivity of maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control in synchronous reluctance machines (SynRMs) to angle errors, examining specifically how deviations in the reference control trajectory affected performance. Analytical and numerical methods were employed to analyze this sensitivity systematically, including the impact of magnetic saturation. Two MTPA control implementation schemes were evaluated, with torque and current amplitude as the reference variables, using a template SynRM from the open-source simulation tool SyR-e. The results indicated that performance sensitivity to angle errors was moderately low near the MTPA trajectory, allowing for significant angle deviations with minimal performance loss. Although magnetic saturation increased this sensitivity slightly, reducing the allowable error range by up to 25%, the maximum angle deviation for up to 1% of the performance decrease still corresponded to approximately ±3∘ around the MTPA trajectory. The findings of this study suggest potential for simplifying control implementations, reducing component costs through less precise position determination (sensor-based or sensorless), and achieving additional control objectives such as torque ripple reduction.
