1. A novel off-chain channel model for blockchain-based solutions : doctoral dissertationBlaž Podgorelec, 2024, doktorska disertacija Opis: This dissertation introduces a novel off-chain channel model aimed at enhancing existing solutions to address scalability challenges in blockchain technology. It begins with an overview of the problem statement, research objectives, methodology, and potential limitations before establishing a thesis and hypotheses. A comprehensive theoretical background on blockchain technology, scalability solutions, and the off-chain channel approach ensures a common understanding of the topic. To provide a thorough overview of existing off-chain channel solutions and identify and categorize their limitations, we conducted a systematic literature review, identifying 65 relevant studies. Through detailed analysis, six categories of solutions and six implemented off-chain channel solutions were identified. Five primary categories of limitations were also identified: routing, flexibility, privacy, network properties, and online assumptions, some with sub-limitations. To address these limitations, a new off-chain channel model, named ”Off-chain Channel as a Service,” is proposed, featuring four core design decisions: eliminating the need for an off-chain channel network, assuming blockchain properties by design, introducing a trustworthy service, and enabling flexibility by design. Validation and evaluation of the proposed model employ case-study and experiment research methods to confirm compliance with off-chain channel principles, validate it against identified limitations of existing solutions, analyze its impact on blockchain scalability, and assess its applicability across blockchain platforms. For this purpose, two off-chain payment channel prototype solutions have been implemented, each using a different underlying blockchain platform, namely Ethereum and Solana. Moreover, the proposed model’s security evaluation using risk-analysis methodology is also provided. Qualitative and quantitative analysis demonstrates that the proposed off-chain channel model adheres to off-chain channel principles, improves most identified limitations of existing solutions, positively impacts blockchain scalability, and can be applied to different blockchain platforms supported by smart contracts. 3. The payment order procedure in the NetherlandsAnna Leonarda Hubertina Ernes, 2010, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The Netherlands used to have a national payment order procedure that was quite similar to the present European Order for Payment Procedure. This procedure was replaced by a procedure for the recovery of uncontested claims in cross-border cases, though not in national cases. Although the Netherlands legislator allows filing a request to obtain a European order for payment via email, it has not yet come into force. Applications (in Dutch) for a European order for payment may be submitted to the district court in The Hague. There are two ways in the Netherlands for serving the defendant with an European Payment Order. It can be sent to the defendant by registered mail or it can be served by a bailiff. The Dutch Execution Act has not introduced any specific formal requirements for the defendant’s statement of opposition. The opposition in the Netherlands does not have to be reasoned. The review procedure is a procedure unfamiliar to Dutch civil procedure. However, it resembles a Dutch procedure in which a defendant appeals against a sentence of a procedure in which he did not appear in court (decision in abstentia). 4. Predictors of users' satisfaction with E-payment system : a case study of staff at the University of Ilorin, NigeriaAdeyinka Tella, Abdulmumin Isah, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background and Purpose: Many organisations are using the e-payment system; however, its effectiveness has not been determined particularly in the Nigeria context. The University of Ilorin as educational organisation started using e-payment system in 2010 and up till now there has been limited or no study conducted to examine whether or not workers are satisfied with the new payment system together with other related ones they are familiar with. It is in the light of this that this study examined users’ satisfaction with the e-payment system at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
Design/Methodology/Approach: A sample of 260 academic and non-academic staff was taken from six out 12 faculties that made up the university. Using a survey research approach data was collected with a modified questionnaire. Five research questions were developed to guide the study.
Results: The results revealed that, respondents (93.5%) were adequately satisfied, satisfied and moderately satisfied, while, only (6.5%) of the respondents were less satisfied and dissatisfied. Perceived speed was identified as the characteristics users mostly satisfied with, followed by system security, traceability, and convenience. Moreover, there is significant correlation among the entire e-payment characteristics/factors (perceived speed, security, anonymity, traceability, perceived ease of payment, and convenience); and that all the six factors jointly predict users’ satisfaction with the e-payment system. In order of magnitude of the prediction/contribution to e-payment, users’ satisfaction, perceived speed made the most significant prediction/contribution.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, the study concluded a considerable percentage of the respondents (93.5%) are satisfied with the e-payment system at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. In lieu of this therefore, there is need to improve the e-payment system so that all and sundry could be satisfied. 5. Safeguarding creditors in the course of simplified reduction of subscribed capitalGregor Drnovšek, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The central characteristics of simplified subscribed capital reduction are its very narrow purpose, and a weakened regime of safeguarding of creditors. The main and, frankly, only purpose of the institution is recovery. It is namely most difficult to expect from a distressed company undergoing simplified subscribed capital reduction, which is first and foremost intended for recovery, to safeguard its creditors in the same extent as in the case of ordinary reduction of subscribed capital. The article provides an analysis of the intent and purpose of simplified subscribed capital reduction and the regulations governing the safeguarding of creditors. Using a descriptive method, subject matter analysis, and comparative legal analysis of the issue, the article elaborates on why regulations governing the safeguarding of creditors are too weak with regard to the effects brought forth by this type of subscribed capital reduction and proposes appropriate supplementation and amendments to applicable legislation. 6. Payment cardsLibena Kantnerová, 2016, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The aim of this paper is to analyze the use of payment cards in retail in the Czech Republic from the side of clients (buyers) and the side of sellers. Questionnaires for clients examine satisfaction with cards and the service connected with them. Sellers’ satisfaction with the profit and function of cards is analyzed. The data indicated that 92% of the 352 respondents in South Bohemia had a payment card and more than 35% had more than one card. In retail, 70% of sellers had a payment terminal.
