Communication in tourism : tour(ist) guides, storytelling and the DRAMMA modelJasna Potočnik Topler, Jane Webb, Vita Petek, Mateja Kregar Gliha, 2024, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji Opis: This chapter discusses the significance of communication in business growth, particularly in the context of the tourism industry and in the profession of a tour(ist) guide as tour(ist) guides are seen as key figures in tourist communication, often referred to as "spokespersons," "educators," and "entertainers." They play a significant role in conveying correct information while incorporating engaging stories and facts to enhance the tourist experience. The chapter touches the topic of storytelling that has become increasingly important in tourism as it can bridge the gap between the present, past, and future, evoking strong emotions of tourists. 4. Multilevel investigation of leadership prototype perception : political behavior in relation to effectiveness and trustAykut Arslan, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background/Purpose: Empirical evidence suggests that a leader’s political skills may act as a moderator that
might decrease the effect of prototypicality’s impact on trust and on leadership effectiveness. The study investigated leading political skills as second-level regulatory variables in connection to leader effectiveness and trust with the purpose of testing a cross-level moderated mediation model within a traditionally collectivist culture like Turkey in efforts to contextualize and expand understanding of leadership prototype perception.
Methods: A total of 442 service sector employees and 28 executive managers were interviewed. Two surveys in two
separate time periods were conducted. Multilevel path analysis was used to evaluate the hypotheses.
Results: The findings suggest that there is a strong and significant impact of leader prototypicality on leadership
effectiveness and a direct impact on trust. Results indicate that leaders who are trusted by their subordinates are
perceived as more effective in their leadership roles. Lower levels of trust from subordinates are negatively associated with leader effectiveness.
Conclusion: If leaders cannot provide their followers a contextualized sense of empowerment and development,
they are perceived to not provide high levels of emotional trust. Therefore, there is greater need for multilevel contextualized studies taking account of collective, two-sided, embedded experiences within groups. 5. The use of artificial intelligence among students in higher educationEva Jereb, Marko Urh, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Background/Purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI) impacts our everyday lives, from business to social areas, and, in recent years, more and more education. This paper aims to discuss using artificial intelligence tools for educational purposes from the student’s perspective. Methods: A quantitative approach was used for the research using the questioning method. Data were collected using an e-survey. The questionnaire contained closed questions referring to (i) general data, (ii) the use of specific artificial intelligence tools, and open questions (iii) about using artificial intelligence for study purposes. Parametric Independent – Samples t-Test and One-Way ANOVA tests were used for normal and near-normal distributions of the responses. Results: The study conducted with 258 university students in Slovenia reveals a general familiarity with AI concepts yet with a limited ability to articulate this understanding. Popular AI tools like ChatGPT and Grammarly are predominantly used for information retrieval and idea generation. Notable differences in AI tool usage were observed based on gender and field of study. Conclusion: The rapid advancement of AI is significantly transforming higher education. Integrating AI into education fosters the development of adaptive, personalized, and inclusive learning environments. Due to the study’s limited sample size and geographic focus, further research with more diverse samples is needed to understand global AI tool usage in higher education fully. 6. Attitudes of secondary school students towards teaching styles before and during the COVID-19 pandemicMarijana Škutor, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The aim of this paper was to examine students’ attitudes towards teaching styles before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mean values were calculated using descriptive statistics, and the T-test for independent samples was used to determine the existence of statistically significant differences between groups. After testing the difference in student assessment of the teachers’ style in two different school years, no statistically significant difference was found, potentially owing to student adaptation to the situation. A positive- sign correlation coefficient between the democratic and laissez-faire styles was recorded at a significance level of p<0.05. 7. Parent-teacher conference as a rhetorical challenge in educational practiceJelena Vignjević, Marina Pavlović Pintarić, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: This paper analyses educator’s communication skills during parent-teacher conferences in kindergarten. We researched the way educators communicate during twelve parent-teacher conferences in various kindergartens. In accordance with the methodology of qualitative research, chosen elements of educator’s communication during the parent-teacher conferences were observed and recorded. Results showed that observed parent-teacher conferences are wellprepared, structured, substantially suitable and interactive, with apt vocabulary and elements of eloquence. The greatest shortcoming of the educator’s communication was an underdeveloped active listening technique. Moreover, there were obvious differences in individual communication skills of the educators. The results of this research can serve as a tool for contemplating pedagogical practice in early childhood education. 9. The impact of TikTok on learning English in Slovene primary schools : students' perceptions in the third trienniumUrška Škrabl, 2024, magistrsko delo Opis: Exposure to mass media in today’s world is metaphorically starting to equal the process of breathing air; scrolling through social media has become a part of everyday routine, and students use their smartphones for lengthy durations and for a variety of chores that stem from responsibilities as well as from their hobbies. The aim of this master's thesis is to offer an insight into the possibility of integrating TikTok and English language education, as perceived by Slovene students in the third triennium of primary school. We employed a questionnaire to explore the opinions of students (grades 7 – 9) in the Podravje region. The results revealed that students are loyal users of the app, on which they encounter English content to a greater extent and share a good understanding of the language. They recognize TikTok’s potential for improving different language skills (predominantly speaking), and are familiar with English teaching channels on the app. The results portray a moderate preference for using TikTok in the ELT classroom, mostly due to inexperience and linking social media solely to leisure time. Teachers should at least consider incorporating TikTok in accordance with their students’ needs and preferences or share advice on finding valuable resources on the platform. 10. Views of students, parents, and teachers on smartphones and tablets in the development of 21st-century skills as a prerequisite for a sustainable futureVida Lang, Andrej Šorgo, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: It is no longer just an opinion but a fact that the only way to prevent a catastrophic future for
humanity on a planetary scale is to introduce sustainable practices in all areas of human endeavour. The key role in these processes is activity to education. The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of Slovenian secondary school students, parents, and teachers (SPTs) regarding the role of smartphones and tablets in promoting 21st-century skills. This study explores the views of Slovenian secondary school students, parents, and teachers (SPTs) on the value of smartphones and tablets in 21st-century skills education. The results show a consensus among participants that smartphones and tablets make a positive contribution to various aspects of 21st-century skills as a Prerequisite for Sustainable Future. Participants consistently rated the suggested benefits of smartphones and tablets above the middle of the scale, with a focus on internet, digital, and information literacy. However, there is still room for improvement in basic skills and higher-order thinking skills. The factorial analysis revealed three correlated factors: Holistic Learning skills, Higher-Level Cognitive skills, and Digital Information Literacy skills. Subsequent analysis revealed significant differences between the focus groups, with students showing stronger agreement with the positive impact of smartphones and tablets on a wide range of skills. While teachers recognized the value of smartphones and tablets for students’ digital literacy and engagement, the differences between teachers and other groups were
relatively small. These findings underscore the importance of integrating smartphone strategies and technology tools to promote 21st-century skills as a Prerequisite for Sustainable Future. Educators and policymakers can use these findings to promote effective teaching and learning practices that meet the demands of the 21st century.
