Motivation for training at Paul Hartmann Adriatic d.o.o.
Ivana Savić, 2025, diplomsko delo

Opis: The motivation of adult learners in the workplace is an area of research that focuses on understanding the factors that influence adults' desire to engage in learning activities within an organizational context. We studied various internal and external factors that contribute to the motivation of adult employees to acquire new knowledge, skills, and competencies to accelerate their professional development and career advancement. Understanding the motivations of adult learners at work is crucial for organizations that want to design effective learning programs. With other factors, such as intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, perceived relevance, and goal orientation, organizations can develop strategies that promote and sustain employee motivation. This can ultimately lead to improved engagement, performance, and professional growth among employees.

A comparative study using two SEM techniques on different samples sizes for determining factors of older employeeʹs motivation and satisfaction
Maja Rožman, Polona Tominc, Borut Milfelner, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The purpose of this article is to present the relationships among older employee stress, motivation, satisfaction, and relationships in the workplace using two different approaches and different sample sizes. Research was implemented on an initial sample of 1013 older employees. In the next step, six smaller samples were calculated using the random selection of cases, namely samples with 25, 50, 100, 250, 400, and 500 older employees. This way the possible impact of sample size on relationships between latent variables using the covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) and the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) methods was assessed. The results on the larger samples have proved to be quite robust since they were confirmed with both approaches. They indicate that stress has a strong and negative impact on employee relationships and also a negative impact on employee satisfaction. Furthermore, employee relationships have a strong and positive impact on satisfaction and a positive impact on employee motivation. In addition, satisfaction has a strong and positive impact on employee motivation. The present paper helps readers to better understand the difference between the CB-SEM and the PLS-SEM methods. Researchers should be encouraged to use both techniques, even though CB-SEM methods have had a long tradition in management and marketing research since both fields heavily rely on psychometric measurement. From the organizational point of view, conclusions highlight the importance of the impact the variables of older employee stress, motivation, satisfaction and employee relations have on each other in the workplace.

Judgements of Smiles in an Intergroup Context : magistrsko delo
Ana Milošič, 2024, magistrsko delo

Opis: Most previous research has reported an ingroup advantage for emotion recognition accuracy (e.g. Elfenbein & Ambady, 2002b; Friesen et al., 2019). On the other hand, when researching discrimination between deliberate and spontaneous smiles in a minimal group paradigm, Young (2017) found an outgroup advantage. The goal of the present study was to investigate this phenomenon and examine its underlying mechanisms. Participants completed two blocks of trials where they rated the genuineness of deliberate and spontaneous smiles, as well as reported their motivation to attend to members of either group. The results showed no significant advantage for ingroup or outgroup in smile discrimination accuracy, nor did overall accuracy change with the inclusion of group information. However, participants showed a significantly laxer threshold for labelling a smile as genuine when evaluating ingroup members. Motivation to attend to individuals was highest for ingroup members. These findings suggest the presence of an ingroup positivity bias in ratings of smile genuineness within a minimal group paradigm. Moreover, they suggest that intergroup biases in emotion recognition VI may be less pronounced than previously thought and highlight the potential role of mediators in shaping these biases.

Research trends in motivation and weight loss : a bibliometric-based review
Uroš Železnik, Peter Kokol, Jasmina Starc, Danica Železnik, Jernej Završnik, Helena Blažun Vošner, 2023, pregledni znanstveni članek

Opis: Obesity is a complex disease that, like COVID-19, has reached pandemic proportions. Consequently, it has become a rapidly growing scientific field, represented by an extensive body of research publications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to present the research trends in the scientific literature on motivation and weight loss. Because traditional knowledge synthesis approaches are not appropriate for analyzing large corpora of research evidence, we utilized a novel knowledge synthesis approach called synthetic knowledge synthesis (SKS) to generate new holistic insights into obesity research focusing on motivation. SKS is a triangulation of bibliometric analysis, bibliometric mapping, and content analysis. Using it, we analyzed the corpus of publications retrieved from the Scopus database, using the search string TITLE-ABS-KEY((obesity or overweight) and “weight loss” and motiv*) in titles, keywords, and abstracts, without any additional inclusion or exclusion criteria. The search resulted in a corpus of 2301 publications. The United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Australia were the most productive countries. Four themes emerged, namely, weight loss and weight-loss maintenance through motivational interventions, lifestyle changes supported by smart ICT, maintaining sustainable weight with a healthier lifestyle, and weight management on the level of primary healthcare and bariatric surgery. Further, we established that the volume of research literature is growing, as is the scope of the research. However, we observed a regional concentration of research and its funding in developed countries and almost nonexistent research cooperation between developed and less-developed countries.

Examining motivations to walk the Camino de Santiago : a typology of pilgrims
Snežana Brumec, Miran Lavrič, Andrej Naterer, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The purpose of this article is to develop a comprehensive understanding of people's motivations for going on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage using qualitative and quantitative methods. The methodology comprised qualitative research based on content analysis of 32 travelogue testimonies and quantitative research based on an online survey of prospective pilgrims (N=228). Three dimensions of motivation were identified using the following factor analyses: secular, spiritual, and religious. Then, a two-step cluster analysis was conducted to classify pilgrims into seven different types. The results revealed that pilgrims are not homogeneous in their motivations and that, except for two types with a total frequency of 4%, secular motivation is more or less present in all other types of prospective pilgrims. There are no "purely religious" pilgrims. Religious motivation always appears together with secular, spiritual, or, most often, both these forms of motivation. The findings suggest that secular motivation may be related to a need for exploration, the core motive underlying self-actualization.

How do job-related constructs determine employee turnover? : Serbian hotels example
Marija Cimbaljević, Milena Nedeljković Knežević, Dunja Demirović Bajrami, Milosav Dunjić, Hamid El Bilali, Milica Rančić Demir, 2020, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In the hospitality industry, employee turnover is extremely high. It is often caused by minimal growth opportunities, intensive work, lack of flexibility, limited opportunities for promotion, lack of recognition, etc. Investment in human resources, strategies that maintain an adequate workforce and improve employee engagement is quite justified cost with multiple returns. The specific issue is that hospitality leaders often do not know the relationships between employee satisfaction, employee motivation and employee engagement, which may be the basis for understanding their intention to leave the job. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the three job-related constructs: motivation, job satisfaction, and work engagement, as well as to examine their impact on employee turnover. The results confirmed a positive relationship between job satisfaction and motivation, satisfaction and work engagement, as well as the relationship between motivation and engagement. On the other side, the results showed that job satisfaction, dedication, and vigor negatively predict employee turnover. The findings may provide hotel managers with a foundation to understand this issue and assume where to direct their research and how to improve job conditions.

Motivations for hosting on Airbnb : the case of Slovenia
Katja Kokot, Maja Turnšek, 2022, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: The ‘platform economy’ has evolved over the years into a global phenomenon. The focus of this paper is the motivations of Slovene hosts to use the Airbnb platform. While Airbnb was originally optimistically discussed as an element of ‘the sharing economy’, it has become known as one of the key players of the ‘platform economy’, belonging to the area of the so-called capital platforms, which allow participation-based primarily based on ownership of capital. Our research amongst a sample of 103 officially registered accommodation providers in Slovenia has shown that Airbnb is the second-most used platform, on average bringing a third of income for the surveyed participants, while Booking.com brings about half of their income. Furthermore, the results show that monetary motives prevail among Slovene hosts. However, social and moral motives are also strongly expressed. These findings indicate that the perceived primary purpose of Airbnb is generating additional earnings due to a surplus of real estate capital. A higher share of income from hosting in comparison to other types of income is correlated with the expressed importance of monetary motives. In contrast, the prevalence of social motives is influenced by fear of loneliness, cultural openness, and hosts’ global prosociality.

Home gardening and food security concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic
Maja Turnšek, S. L. Gangenes Skar, Marit Piirman, Ragnheidur Thorarinsdottir, Martina Bavec, Ranka Junge-Berberovic, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: At times of crisis, home gardening has often been sought out as a potential solution for threats to food security and as a measure to increase socio-psychological effects, such as public sense of self-efficacy, trust in the government and care for one’s wellbeing. The objective of this study was to investigate if home gardening increased during the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring/summer of 2020 and to provide socio-psychological insights into the explanatory factors of such an increase. An explanatory theoretical model of home gardening was proposed and tested to analyse whether home gardening is correlated to food security concerns, and if so, to what extent. A nonrepresentative survey was conducted in five European countries (Slovenia, Norway, Estonia, Switzerland, and Iceland) using snowball sampling via social media networks, reaching 1144 participants. The results showed the pandemic did prove to be an important psychological push towards home gardening prompted by food security concerns. Measured as loose as introducing at least one new gardening activity during COVID-19, this study found an approximately 10% increase in home gardening during the first wave of COVID-19 in the sample population, which was skewed towards educated, female, middle-class Europeans.

Differences in chemistry teachers' acceptance of educational software according to their user type : an application of extended UTAUT model
Kateřina Chroustová, Andrej Šorgo, Martin Bilék, Martin Rusek, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In this research, a model to determine chemistry teachers' acceptance of educational software in secondary education is proposed. The model extends the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model. Data were collected from 556 Czech chemistry teachers and analysed using structural equation modelling. With respect to the significant differences among technology users and various types of nonusers, the research model for each user group was tested too. The results showed significant differences in the individual models for each group of technology user. In the model for "current users" of educational software, the influence of facilitating conditions on current users' use of educational software behavioural intention is stressed. In addition, non-planning users' behavioural intention seems to be influenced by their personal innovativeness in IT, social influence, and performance expectancy. Behavioural intention and attitude towards using educational software affect each of the tested models, with attitudes being an even stronger predictor of educational software usage than behavioural intention. The models contribute to the understanding of teachers' acceptance of educational software, which can be utilized in both pre- and in-service teacher training, considering technology mastery a necessary teacher competence.

Motivation for Learning English in Adulthood
Jerneja Osredkar, 2019, magistrsko delo

Opis: Technological development, information technology development, new ways of communicating and globalisation have influenced the society and knowledge greatly. One's knowledge needs to be upgraded and improved constantly since it enables the quality of work, personal development, as well as a better quality of life in society. Due to historical spread of the language and the economic power of the United States of America, English has gained the position of a global language and is used as a lingua franca in the world. Therefore, many invidiuals decide to learn English in adulthood. Their decision to enrol in language courses and final success depend on many factors, motivation certainly being one of the key factors. The main aim of the master’s thesis is to find out what motivates adults to take part in language courses as well as what the potential barriers are. The analysis of the survey has not shown any major differences in motivation between older and younger adults; however, factor analysis shows that knowledge is the most important value upon which people decide to enrol in the English language classes. When analysing barriers, situational barriers have proven as the most pressing issue once again.
