, 2019, magistrsko delo
Opis: Technological development, information technology development, new ways of communicating and globalisation have influenced the society and knowledge greatly. One's knowledge needs to be upgraded and improved constantly since it enables the quality of work, personal development, as well as a better quality of life in society. Due to historical spread of the language and the economic power of the United States of America, English has gained the position of a global language and is used as a lingua franca in the world. Therefore, many invidiuals decide to learn English in adulthood. Their decision to enrol in language courses and final success depend on many factors, motivation certainly being one of the key factors. The main aim of the master’s thesis is to find out what motivates adults to take part in language courses as well as what the potential barriers are. The analysis of the survey has not shown any major differences in motivation between older and younger adults; however, factor analysis shows that knowledge is the most important value upon which people decide to enrol in the English language classes. When analysing barriers, situational barriers have proven as the most pressing issue once again.

, 2011, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci
Opis: Despite the significant impact of environment on the attractiveness of tourist destination, environmental stewardship is not always the top priority in the hotel industry as one of the most energy-intensive sectors of the tourism industry which contributes to the increasing quantity of air pollutants. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of ecological pull motives and service quality on the tourists' loyalty to eco-hotels. The tourists spent their holidays in Austrian hotels with ecolabel and in Slovenian hotels were targeted and a total of 611 tourists participated in the study. The study reveals that the perceived service quality and ecobehaviour of hotel staff are the main determinants of the tourists' loyalty. The comparison analysis between Austrian and Slovenian hotels indicates that the guests of Austrian hotels with ecolabel are more loyal and ecologically motivated than guests of Slovenian hotels without ecolabel.

Detecting and preventing plagiarism in a foreign language e-learning courseSara Orthaber
, 2009, izvirni znanstveni članek
Opis: E-learning is becoming an increasingly common if not an essential strategy in academic institutions and the Faculty of Logistics of the University of Maribor, Slovenia is no exception. However, this new teaching mode also brings about new forms of academic misconduct, which is the main topic of this paper. The first proposed methodological approach was to take into account students' general experience, motivation and satisfaction with e-learning from previously undertaken studies. Then students' submitted assignments from the 8-week foreign language course English in Logistics were analyzed with the objective of finding whether the perception of intellectual property rights of those students who had been warned has changed and what the reasons for plagiarism might have been: did plagiarism attempts somewhat diminish, or did students deliberately continue to copy from the internet? What reasons for plagiarizing other than stress resulting from potential problems of integrating contemporary technology into the learning process may there be?

Preschool teacher career and why individuals choose itMaja Hmelak
, Jurka Lepičnik-Vodopivec
, 2012, izvirni znanstveni članek
Opis: The first part of the article examines certain fundamental theoretical facts about preschool education courses and the preschool teacher profession, as well as current theoretical and empirical knowledge about the motives for choosing this career path. The central part of the article is devoted to the empirical study. A study was performed on a sample of 616 students and preschool teachers to determine their opinions about how suitable they think their choice of education and future profession was, and about the motivational factors that led the respondents to choose preschool education studies and the preschool teacher profession. The study also factored in respondents' backgrounds (students, teachers) and status (beginners, established, experienced). An analysis of differences between the respondents in regard to their background and status revealed a general agreement with the suitability of choosing their education/future profession, but it also showed that their choice was primarily guided by self-actualization and altruistic reasons. However, statistically significant differences were spotted in other reasons as well. Considering that inner motivational factors were the most common among all respondents, the authors deduce that the respondents represent a suitably chosen and educated population of current and future preschool teachers, which should ensure quality work with preschool children.

TEACHING READING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: THE READING BADGE AS A LITERACY TOOLSimona Marolt
, 2012, diplomsko delo
Opis: Reading is a part of communication. Reading is important and the aim of reading is to understand the information given in the text. There is much information that we have to read in our everyday lives. We have to read timetables, newspapers, e-mails, text messages and information on the web; children read when they do exercises or learn. We read because we are interested in something, for fun, or to relax.
Reading is a part of the learning process, as well. Reading develops knowledge of and interest in a foreign language. The Reading Badge is a movement that has successfully promoted reading quality literature in Slovenia for over 50 years; The English Reading Badge is an activity that promotes reading a foreign language. Books that are carefully chosen by the teacher provide a rich environment for both language and culture. Apart from choosing materials, the role of the teacher is to train students to use methods and techniques that contribute to better comprehension. The practical examples in the thesis are ideas that I apply with my own students. By reading various books and doing activities in connection with them, we can see how their motivation to read grows and reading improves. Wallace’s statement “We want to give learner-readers a reason for turning the page” (Wallace 151) is more than appropriate here, since it encourages good work on the area of reading.

TEACHING ENGLISH THROUGH SONGSEda Drmota
, 2013, diplomsko delo
Opis: The diploma thesis addresses the use of music in teaching English and discusses many aspects of music and language learning. The theoretical part introduces music as an important factor in people's lives and presents reasons for its decisive role in acquiring a foreign language. It also provides a comparison between language and music and their effect on human brains. The attention is paid to songs which are presented as an effective pedagogical tool indispensible especially in young learners’ classroom.
The aim of the empirical part is to give insight into the use of songs in current English classrooms by examining six English coursebooks which are used with fourth and fifth graders. The study clarifies the function of songs and analyses their presentation based on chosen criteria which define a good language learning song. My research also focused on pupils and their experience of songs in chosen coursebook. The sample included 124 pupils. The aim was to find out which songs are pupils' favourite and which criteria are the most important to them when choosing a favourite song. The findings of the research have been set in the conclusion.

The Analysis of the Berlitz Approach to English Language TeachingAdmira Halvadžić
, 2013, diplomsko delo
Opis: This paper investigates the role of the Berlitz method of teaching English in today's language education. The Berlitz method has been present in the English language area for a long time and the principal objective of this diploma thesis was to prove that even today, it is a very successful and effective method of teaching English, whose characteristics should be implemented in language classrooms around the world.
The first part of my thesis introduces the history of English language teaching and the history of the Berlitz method. Characteristics of the Berlitz method, its development and the role in today's education are presented. The second part, which is also the principal part of the thesis, draws upon lesson observations of three children’s and two adult classes which I did at the Berlitz language centre in Maribor. The data collected here focused on three aspects of the didactical triangle: the teacher, the learner and the content. Important information about each segment is introduced, with the emphasis on the content, the use of teaching aids, the role of fluency and accuracy, the rapport between teachers and learners and about motivation in Berlitz classes.
The last part of my thesis involves information about Berlitz kids’ camps and a survey which reveals some significant information about the teachers’ and learners’ experiences and views on the Berlitz method.
