Van Gulick's solution of the exclusion problem revisited
Janez Bregant, 2004, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The anti-reductionist who wants to preserve the causal efficacy of mental phenomena faces several problems in regard to mental causation, i. e. mental events which cause other events, arising from her desire to accept the ontological primacy of the physical and at the same time save the special character of the mental. Psychology tries to persuade us of the former, appealing thereby to the results of experiments carried out in neurology; the latter is, however, deeply rooted in our everyday actions and beliefs and despite the constant opposition of science still very much alive. Difficulties, however, arise from a combination of two claims that are widely accepted in philosophy of mind, namely, physical monism and mental realism, the acceptance of which leads us to the greatest problem of mental causation: the problem of causal exclusion. Since physical causes alone are always sufficient for physical effects mental properties are excluded from causal explanations of our behaviour, which makes them "epiphenomenal". The article introduces Van Gulick's solution to the exclusion problem which tries to prove that physical properties, in contrast to mental properties, do not have as much of a privileged status with respect to event causation as usually ascribed. Therefore, it makes no sense to say that physical properties are causally relevant whereas mental properties are not. This is followed by my objection to his argument for levelling mental and physical properties with respect to causation of events. I try to show that Van Gulick's argument rests on a premise that no serious physicalist can accept

OCENA FOTO-REALISTIČNEGA OSVETLJEVANJA V GAFIČNIH POGONIH MENTAL RAY IN V-RAY
Pal Kosi, 2014, diplomsko delo

Opis: Namen diplomskega dela je razčlenitev in analiza osvetlitve dveh vodilnih grafičnih pogonov na področju računalniške grafike, to sta V-Ray in Mental Ray.

MEDITATION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM
Tjaša Pegan, 2016, diplomsko delo

Opis: The practical action research study in this diploma thesis, Meditation in the English Language Classroom, was performed as a mini-experiment which was initially set up to explore meditation and assess its potential and use in education. Regarding English as a foreign language, language learning combined visual and auditory information, and it was based on visual and verbal memory. One of the objectives in the theoretical part was to find a ‘universal formula’ which could help bring meditation closer to a classroom setting. Among available techniques, we chose mindfulness meditation for its simplicity. In addition to having this exercise included in the lesson, the participants received the element of visualisation, which is often found in meditation traditions. Guided visualisation or the so called guided mental imagery was presented as a vocabulary learning strategy in the form of multisensory interactive story including multiple intelligences and mindfulness aspects – the pupils had to pay attention to what the teacher was saying. They were supposed to self-generate the pictures in their minds to repeat new vocabulary items or simply listen to the story with their eyes closed. The main purpose of using mindfulness was to create a more harmonious classroom atmosphere and better concentration by helping the participants become more centred by directing their attention inwardly. The main purpose of using visualisation was to remember words by giving them a mental image. We presented lesson plans from the study performed by two volunteering teachers. In total, 8 classes with 114 pupils were included in this mini research. Results are not so clear-cut and promising, mainly due to limitations. Teachers need more training, better school organisation and curriculum for the practices to be seriously implemented in education.

Correlates of depression in the slovenian working population
Zalika Klemenc-Ketiš, Borut Peterlin, 2013, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: This multicentre, cross-sectional observational study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression among the working population of Slovenia and identify factors correlating with higher prevalence of depression. It was conducted in three occupational medicine practices within major Slovenian primary health care centres. The study population consisted of 1,474 respondents [73.7 % of the invited participants, 889 (60.3 %) men and 585 (39.7 %) women with mean age of (40.5±9.8) years] who visited these practices for their regular check-ups from November 2010 to June 2012 and were asked to fill in a self-developed questionnaire and score depression on the Zung’s self-rating depression scale. According to the rating, 50 (3.4 %) respondents suffered from depression. In the multivariate analysis, depression correlated with the following independent variables: self-perceived exposure to chronic stress, positive family history of depression, and primary school education.

Submicroscopic interstitial deletion of chromosome 11q22.3 in a girl with mild mental retardation and facial dysmorphism: Case report
Danijela Krgović, Nataša Marčun-Varda, Andreja Zagorac, Nadja Kokalj-Vokač, 2011, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Background: Except for terminal deletions that lead to Jacobsen syndrome, interstitial deletions involving the long arm of chromosome 11 are not frequently reported. A clinically distinct phenotype is usually observed in these cases, and no clear genotype-phenotype correlation is proposed. Results: Here we present a case study of a 5-year-old girl with de novo submicroscopic deletion of chromosome 11q22.3 with mild mental retardation and facial dysmorphism. A standard cytogenetic analysis did not reveal any structural aberrations. A contrary array-CGH analysis indicated a small deletion of 11q22.3. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the smallest 11q22.3 deletion reported in literature, containing nine RefSeq genes. Although none of the deleted genes are obvious candidates for the features observed in our patient, genes CUL5 and SLN could play a key role in the features described.

Physical activity among nursing students
Leona Cilar, Nina Preložnik, Gregor Štiglic, Dominika Jakl, Majda Pajnkihar, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Introduction: Nurses need to encourage patients to lead a healthy lifestyle, hence it is important that as nursing students they are already aware of the importance of physical activity. The purpose of the study was to investigate the physical activities of nursing students. Aim: The aim of the study was to find out in what state physical activity of nursing students is and to find out what are their main reasons for lack of physical activity. Material and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional observational study using a mixed methods design. The quantitative data was collected using the survey method with a convenience sample of 123 students and used descriptive and inferential statistics for the analysis. For the qualitative data we used a Grounded Theory Method with semi-structured interviews on purposive samples of four students. Results and conclusions: In the quantitative part of this study we found a significantly higher proportion of outdoor physical activity in comparison to indoor physical activity (p < 0.001). The qualitative part contains the main categories of physical activity implementation, as well as three sub-categories: attitude to physical activity, barriers and incentives. Nursing students do not do physical activities regularly due to lack of time, obligations at the university, time of the year and finances.
